Fluid retention

I’m use to taking a prescription pill for fluid retention is this not a good thing to do when your eating Ketogenic? I retain fluid so easy. Does anyone else have this problem and how did you deal with it doing keto?

I used to have issues with it - I couldn't wear my rings overnight or they would be stuck on my fingers and hurting by morning...ditto for exercise, had to remove them because my fingers would puff up like crazy. LCHF and Keto, however, I don't have this problem at all any more. I don't really know why. I just know that I can wear my rings overnight and not only do my fingers not hurt in the morning, but I can slip the rings off first thing in the morning without any problems. Ditto for exercise - my fingers just don't get all crazy puffy like they used to do.

So, I would recommend you watch your signs of water retention and be alert for changes - you may need to reduce or eliminate the prescription if you find that you are not actually retaining water under keto. Also, make sure you are keeping your sodium up since you will be losing a fair amount with a fluid pill anyway.

Thank you. I’m going to cut my pill in half and see what happens.

Given that this is a Dr. prescribed pill, and given that we don't know exactly why you were prescribed it, I would encourage you to check in with your doctor as well. Cheers

Keto is naturally diuretic and therefore requires increased sodium intake to prevent dehydration. Water alone won’t keep you hydrated. You must replace sodium.
Please read about the sodium needs in the stickies so you understand this part of the process. Being on the diuretic puts you at greater risk of sodium depletion and you really need to be aware of the symptoms and don’t be afraid of salt.

I still take my lasix 20mg daily on keto. I drink plenty and use salt on/in my food. I also take magnesium.

I tried to go without my fluid retention pill yesterday and my eyes are so swollen and blood pressure is up. I can’t go walk until I get it down. I’m going to keep taking it for now.
