I ran my first 10k of the year today. Not super fast, but perfect execution for my training. Even ran negative splits!

Bling from tonight's 10k  I was disappointed that there were no cool T-shirts, hats, or anything else (other than a reflective slap bracelet and a glow stick that broke and lit itself up yesterday when I picked up the packet), but I do really like the medal. This is race #3 of 4, and just like last year, my schedule had me miss one of the races. The medals fit together, so I won't have the complete design. Oh well, I'm thinking of getting a medal display rack anyway, and you can't tell they fit together if they're hanging.

The Larmer Tree Marathon this weekend. My third attempt, with two prior DNSs. It should have been my first marathon two years ago, but I was ill and downgraded to the HM instead, with my first being three months later at Giants Head.

I'm familiar with the territory, having done the Half, but also the various Ox races in the area as well. The weather has been horrendous for a few days, so very muddy throughout the route. I opted for Trail Talons this weekend as there was enough road to make MudClaws a challenging choice.

A couple of friends were carrying injuries, so a fairly relaxed session as we've all got a lot in the calendar this season.

Good company, some challenging climbs and beautiful views.

Marathon #10 for me, and the first of 10 this season.

Quite late in posting this. Back in December I ran my first full marathon. I've always stuck with half marathons up to this point. I did the Brazos Bend 100 Marathon. My son, who is in the picture with me finished the 100 mile run. The picture is of us when we crossed paths. I was around mile 11 and he was at about mile 30 for his race. An awesome race. Love trail racing, even with the alligators on the trail! So for anyone who thinks running is for the young folks... I didn't even run my first race until I was 53. It isn't about speed to me. I finished right in the middle of the pack and had zero soreness, zero lack of energy, zero problems. Run your race folks, it's about finishing, and finishing stronger than last time.

I've done Brazos Bend before (half and a 25K, not their marathon). That's a great place to run and such a great organization! Congrats!

Ran Lucky Charm 10k yesterday. It was not my best effort but I haven't been training as hard in the first part of this year so it is to be expected. Still got 47:40 (chip time) which was good enough for 38th place (out of 403 runners).

I was a bit surprised to see only 397 ran the 5k. There were more in the 10k than 5k. Not what I expected...

Spring Forward 15K, 9.3 miles of rolling hills in Mendon, NY today. The objective was to practice pace control for Boston and get a long run in. Ran 8 miles before the race, and ran the 9.3 in 1:10:47, for an average pace of 7:37 per mile on certified race distance. If my control is that good for 20 miles on Patriot's Day, I should be in pretty good shape.

Because I was deliberately running slow, I was only 2nd in the M 60-64 age group. I elected to leave before the awards ceremony and not bother with the curved glass plaque. If I had won the age group, I would have hung around to collect my jar of Once Again nut butter.

Finished my half marathon this morning in 1:54:38. I started out racing the first couple miles and then I hit the hills from hell and decided this was going to be a training run. Then end result was my 2nd slowest HM ever (not disappointed, just an observation). It is also 3 minutes slower than last year's time when I got lost and ran an extra 1.5 miles.

I got a free hoodie sweatshirt for being the first one to register. :D

Congratulations on your half! You're 2nd slowest time would be a major PR for me ;]
I *love* that medal - classy looking!

Got an ear warmer/headband from my Saturday race. Nothing too special, so I didn't take a picture of it.
