While he sometimes misspeaks (IMO), all of his recommendations that I've used I've independently verified. I find the science he presents very understandable. Just once in a while he'll say something that reminds me of that commercial of the lady who puts her vacation photos on her living room wall to show them off, "That's not how this works. That's not how ANY of this works!" LOL He has the right solution, but every once in a while I feel like his brain slips a gear as to why.
I don't mean to be weird here, just that I have known some of what he says in the BG to be off, but his conclusions and treatments have always seemed correct and accurate to me... Does that make sense?3 -
I love Dr Berg and have been successful following his advice. I agree he's not always 100% accurate, but who is? He's mostly correct, most of the time, and he delivers complex ideas in a super understandable way. I watched all his vids when I first went keto, and again every few months as a refresher.
The only thing that I have seen him say that I'm not sure I agree with is about protein and how you can eat too much and get kicked out of ketosis. The jury is still out on that one (for me, anyways). So I follow mostly all his advice except for limiting protein.3 -
ok, great! I was just leary of someone who calls himself Dr....but isn't one at all; but as I listened to him, he seemed somewhat right. And if I understood him correctly he doesn't count carbs from vegetables.....is that acccurate do you think?

I could be wrong but I believe he is a DC (Chiropractor) which is deemed a doctor, just not an MD. I recalled (and a quick google search indicated) he did receive a reprimand and fine (2007) for some of his teachings or practices.
I guess that sort of solidifies my OPINION of him. I won't say that he is wrong in his keto teachings but overall he has always struck me as a real generalist and one who sort of jumps on the bandwagon of current trends. Woo or otherwise.

@FANCY1977 - in non-starchy veggies, fiber can be discounted. The rest of carbs in non-starch veggies are going to be very few.
My personal theory was always that if I go over my carbs from eating whole foods, and it's because I wanted a second serving of broccoli, I'll be fine. It is almost impossible to get fat from eating things like broccoli or spinach - unless you're eating a bunch of stuff on top of it, etc.
So I always have kind of a net carb/total carb threshold. So, maybe 25-30/50? I'd aim for total carbs of about 50. I subtracted fiber. I didn't generally subtract sugar alcohols - because for me, those are gateway carbs... I might subtract 1/2 of them...if it was my only indulgence that day, etc. But not allowing too big of gap in the net carbs versus total carbs prevented me from filling my plate with faux-foods...
My body could tolerate 2-3x or more carbs from broccoli than say from nuts or cake. Generally speaking, my grains/sugars limit is about 5, whereas my broccoli carbs could be 20-30 or so at a setting, with a good portion of that obviously fiber...and have about the same effect...1 -

I didn't find anything in his keto approach that concerned me, but I do resist his D.C. hawking of wares (all the supplements and blood type this etc.).
He does motivate people to make changes at least, though.4 -
I've found it's almost a universal rule that anyone who calls themselves "Dr" on YouTube is a chiropractor. Most real doctors either don't mention it or put MD after their name. Here in the UK chiropractors are not well respected in the health service. And although they aren't actually banned from called themselves "Dr" they must make sure everyone knows they aren't medical. And he makes recommendations then tries to sell you the stuff! And his quiet, reasonable tone of voice I find creepy. My go-to experts are people like Eric Westman, Phinney and Volk, Professor Tim Noakes, Jason Fung.5

He uses the initials DC after his name in every video he posts. He doesn't hide that he's a chiropractor, posting lots of videos on his technique with patients. His videos on nutrition have helped me a lot and I would recommend him to others, although I do not buy any of his products. I love Dr. Westman, and Tim Noakes is a hero of mine. Nobody in the Low Carb field has endured the persecution that Noakes has. Dr. Berry is good to watch also. We are fortunate that there is so much good information out there so readily available. I wish I had a doctor in my town like any one of these guys.2
