We don't really do Lent so no plans for it. I should give up wine but not sure I want to. I have been having way less. Now that I am running a little I think I may start not having any, not even a tiny glass, the evening before my planned runs. I used to do that and it worked well.
@elise4270 - maybe give up fast food for Lent? But then you would have to define what that is. Does it include Panera? What about Chick-Fila?
I have always been pleasantly surprised to meet and talk to Priests and discover they do have a life beyond doing priestly things - like enjoying cycling and running and yes, even wine tasting 😊1 -
Panera is acceptable. Some chick fila items are okay too. But taco casa? Nah, probably nothing good with it. I should have a stretch of being at home, so the fast food should be easy to give up.
I had break-room donuts today. Dang you Zac for bringing them eveey Thursday. 😋 Oh well, i can skip lunch with all i ate yesterday.1 -

Hi nutritional accountability friends! After three weeks I'm feeling good about how my experiment with a more dramatic cut went. The scale read 155.4 this morning and I've reversed my 30-day gaining trend.
Obviously it would have been even more successful if I'd managed to keep my once-a-week maintenance day to maintenance instead of surplus, but so it goes.
My plan had been to go to maintenance for the month, so I've upped my calories to 2100/day before exercise, about a 250 deficit, and am planning to bank that for birthdays later in March. Ideally I'll still be averaging around 155 at the end of the month and then I'll reassess.4 -
I had a bad weekend. So today, I start logging again. And stay away from the sugar. I need help. UGH3

Weekends happen. Today is another day! I don't struggle much with sugar, but salty things do me in. I generally practice the "keep it out of the house" method, although the "single serving pack" method has worked at times as well. You can do it!2 -

I've had a couple of upticks in this stretch but I'm very grateful that there is a clear downward trend. Being more active certainly helps. One thing I've done is that when I do a run of 10 miles or less, I don't log and just try to eat to satisfy my hunger. In the past when I'd log on the big run days I'd end up eating more than I needed because I still had calories in my budget.
I have 5 weeks to lose 5.6 pounds. It's doable if I keep focused.

Well, if I can keep it horizontal I’ll be happy. Never mind the dip, there was a piece of cat kibble under the scale. I should delete those points. I’ve only been recording weights that trend down or sideways 😛...

I had a decent weekend but really didn't eat enough at the agility trial and then was starving when I got home and had really big dinners. I was under my base calories each day but still I don't like having all at the end of the day. My weight is down a tiny bit (less than a pound) but at least it isn't up!!
It does feel good to be moving more and not have my foot throbbing to where I feel like I need to just not move. It also means I can and should eat a bit more again!3 -
I recorded everything yesterday. Too many cookies but it was within my goal. I also didnmy strength training and a short plyo session in addition to my run.3

I did make some delicious Mongolian venison in the IP though. Tonight I'll cook up some farro or quinoa to go with it.
I need to get more veggies too. One of my strategies for losing weight is to first pig out on veggies before eating the rest of the meal. Last night it was half a head of broccoli. Tonight I have some spaghetti squash to cook but I find that I'm not much of a fan of that. Perhaps I should serve it under the Mongolian venison?

The obligatory pre-surgery beer. @7lenny7 I was gonna ask for a beer recommendation, but forgot. Luckily the fella here (stack house- dallas) suggested Revolver draft blood and honey. Think I'll have about 3 of these awesome glasses. Oh theres a burger and onion ringson the way too... Take care peeps!

I struggled to like spaghetti squash as a substitute for pasta when I was first diagnosed and trying to eat lower carb. Then found that I quite like it with garam masala and olive oil. It's too sweet for tomato based sauces, in my opinion, but works well with stronger savory flavors. The Mongolian venison might work quite well.
Venison is my favorite meat, your style of cooking is right up my alley!

@rheddmobile I think you're right on with the garam masala and spaghetti squash combo. I'll have to try that.
Tonight I did have the squash and the Mongolian venison and liked it quite a bit but the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. It was probably on par with most restaurants. I'll cut back on the brown sugar next time.2 -

We grow spaghetti squash; IMO can get away with tomato sauce IF it's cut with a little lemon (I canned my tomatoes with lemon) and has some shrimp cooked in the sauce and draped over the top. But of course I like anything with shrimp on it.
Other favorite way, with pesto, sundried tomato, and pumpkin seeds.
Can't wait to try the garam masala though!2 -
I'm still rumbling around between 133 and 135 and plan to post my chart again in a week, since that will be exactly one month. Hopefully that will give me some added incentive to stay under my calorie goal.
Did manage a run a couple of days ago, the dog now loves me: coming back is hard, had some sore spots.1 -
I've had a lot of sideways movement this week. 5 days in a row with scale readings within 0.2 pounds of each other. I count that a win considering the late night snacking and the crap I've had in that time.
Two nights ago I loaded up on fruit & veggies. Clementines, apples, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, asparagus, sweet potato...everything in my card was good stuff.
Tonight I'm making Asian marinated salmon and this weekend I'll make a big pot of chili with ground venison and turkey sausage.3 -
We need to go to Costco... We are pretty much out of meat other than rotisserie chicken meat which I am going to make into chicken and dumplings tomorrow. Last night was tortilla soup with extra chicken and cheese quesadillas. Have no idea yet for tonight.
I have seen the scale dip down a bit finally. I keep holding my breath that it will actually stay there. Not posting any numbers until I am sure it isn't just a fluctuation.

Well, I did it, reset my goals from maintaining to losing .5 lbs / week and started weighing my portions again. Two days in, hating it, and scale weight heigher than anytime in the past year thanks to my new scale being off from the old one. Grr.
I need to start shopping better, I've been eating a lot of lazy meals recently. It's easier to lose weight when I go to the good grocery store across town that has the nicer produce and fish. Our neighborhood store only has basic veg and half of it is covered with mold.3 -
@rheddmobile hugs your way, I too have had to reset my goal to .5 down as I had about 8 to give up over my weight where I was happiest in maintenance. It was pretty hard at first and only the past week have I been able to get any consistency going. Right here with you.
Also hear you about the veg - we are on a challenge at work where I try to get 3.5 cups of veg a day, and if it wasn't for broccoli from the grocery outlet -- !2 -
I've been binging. Had a tough week. Lots of changes. Lots of anxiety from various things. I skipped my run/strength Friday and ate cookies and reese's pieces instead. Helped a friend out yesterday so no time for workout.3

Well now that i have a bit of an appetite again, I should do some planning.
I'm off work so i shouldn't have the taco casa temptation. I have stuff for tortilla soup and I'm hoping i can get dd to make it, and bring me a bowl or two. Then pick up after me and wash said bowl. Since my thermos has gone missing, i need help.
Hope everyone else is hanging in there. The weather trying to warm up any? It is here.

I didn't get my run in tonight. I didn't eat enough calories earlier in the day and was all shaky and have a massive headache. I assume it's because I did 11 miles yesterday and ate at my calorie goal instead of eating a bit more. I wasn't hungry yesterday though. And I didn't take enough to work to eat.3

Theres one piece of chocolate on top the microwave, and I left it there.
Dh wanted kfc for dinner. I said I wanted some of the leftover soup, but get it if he wanted it. He brought home 5 hamburgers. I ate one bowl of soup. Zero burgers.1 -

@elise4270 - since when do they have burgers at KFC? Hahahahaha! Good for you though in sticking with the soup!
We had Panera. I planned to cook but DH wasn't interested in anything I wanted to cook so he said Panera so fine...
I am thinking I need to send him to cooking class so he can plan to cook once in a while.
I also haven't been eating enough calories... not even hitting my minimum 1500 on run or rest days. I need to fix that or I fear I will never lose any more weight. I did drop another pound last week to the lowest weight I have seen since October.1 -

Still over here using all my energy to get through the workday. I contacted my pcp to schedule an appointment for a referral for anxiety and depression. My appointment is... mid-June. *sigh*5

We had baked pork chops and veggies for dinner and I had a protein shake with greek yogurt, berries, protein powder and kale for lunch/post run. It was ok... I think I need to coconut water or something else to it - it was way to thick.
Also after getting a sample at Costco we bought Yasso mint chocolate chip frozen Greek yogurt bars. OMG so good, only 100 calories, 5g protein, 16g carbs and 2g fat. Even DH who hates Greek yogurt likes them. Also they are gluten free. I looked at the other flavors available and will definitely be looking for the others.
I think I did pretty well today. Still need to eat more but I got my protein up and generally had a good food day.
@Elise4270 - some men (my DH included) would gladly eat out/fast food regularly it seems. Given a choice mine will always pick something fast and generally unhealthy which is why we go to Panera frequently. At least it isn't terrible.1
