Getting Hubby On Board

Ok, first let me say, please don’t tell me it’s his choice and you can’t change other people. I already know this so skip it.

Now, here’s my situation. Hubby has a high stress job and is putting on lots of weight. He carries it all around his middle, has high blood pressure and I’m very concerned for his heart. Attitude wise, he’s totally on board with LCHF, gets “why” it works (he’s an RN, watched all the keto videos with me) and likes IF.

My question is more how can I help him. I feel like when he goes off diet it’s cause I haven’t provided him a better choice (like if I skip making him lunch or there are no leftovers), he orders a lunch at work and there are no “choices”, everybody gets the same high carb meal - you literally can’t order a salad. That’s just one example, but prolly the main one. I’m losing weight but he isn’t, even tho he’s eating what I eat when he’s home. And he fasts more - every Sunday he fasts all day.

Do you have a SO who is dieting with you? What coping mechanisms have you adopted to help keep your household on track? I need ideas and things I can adapt I haven’t thought of. Thanks very much! ❤️

Let's start with - just because he isn't losing weight doesn't mean his health isn't improving. My husband has also been doing the LC thing - not as strict or consistent as me, but still far lower carb than the average SAD eating. He hasn't lost any weight, not a single pound, but he is clearly losing size in his midsection which is where he carries most of his fat. Also, he has dropped at least one pants size.

As frustrating as it is to be female and have the scale not cooperate, it seems to be even more common among males. My brother was the same, very little movement on the scale even with clearly visible changes in size and vast improvements to A1C.

Take measurements, that may give you a better picture of his overall change.

As for other ideas, if you have more meal prep time on the weekends, maybe stock up on easy freezer meals that he can take for lunch when there hasn't been time to prep something fresher, assuming he can access a microwave.

Or do like a salad in a jar type thing for the whole week.

Also, if he has space to store food at work, or carries a man-bag or whatever, then stocking up on snacks that are easy go-to items (like nuts or meat sticks or tuna pouches) might help him, then at least he can have some heavy snacks and maybe only eat a small part of a work lunch, or skip the work lunch and just have heavy snacks.

No, he’s not losing inches. Thanks for the tips tho. Keeping some shelf stable foods at work might be a good strategy.

Even if he isn't losing weight or inches at present, his body may be working on improving his blood pressure or other health issues he may be dealing with. You don't say how long he has been LC'ing with you, but if he has just started, likely this may be what is happening.
tcunbeliever has some good ideas for you that I second. Get the snack stuff planned out, and salad in a jar is an awesome way to prep that sort of meal ahead for a few days.
