We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for June are below:

Tuesday - GavinFlynn1 (Gavin)
Wednesday - myallforjc (Bill)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - whathapnd (Emmie)

Today's Topic: Mental Morning Routine(s). Mentally do you have a set morning routine? I realize a lot of us hit the gym the track, go for walks, bicycle, you name it I'm sure there's a combination we do.

1.Do you have a personal mental period of time thats sets your mood for the day which ultimate sets the stage for your day? and can you share.?

On most mornings I awake and do my thing. WI is first then on to making coffee and posting my weight. Then on to my meditation time before the day gets started being crazy. If I don't set the mood as a happy, positive mood it so easy for negative to infiltrate my brain.

So spiritual routine is very important to me and is the first thing. Secondly I have to read a few minutes in a positive book every morning. Soft spiritual music is all part of the morning routine music helps me concentrate.

I have a very "set" routine in the morning:

Wake up early, use the facilities, get on the scale.
    Get some exercise in.
    Shower, dress.
    Breakfast.
    Synagogue for morning prayers.
Get to work. Have coffee upon arrival.

Out of this, going to synagogue might be considered the "mental" part of the routine. It helps me to know who I answer to and what my role in the world is, and that (hopefully) allows for humility and gratitude to be drivers rather than ego and selfishness.

I haven’t yet made a healthy morning routine a habit. The closest I get to that is checking in to GoaD each morning. I think that helps. I’ve gone through months when I would meditate each morning, but that’s no longer a regular habit.

Hard for me to get up and get going erly but do get up around 5 am drink coffee and go for a walk w friends on Mon,Wed,Fri, and Sat most weeks. I feel much better and not depressed by the time I finish my 4.5 mi walk. The walk is my mental part.

Morning routine when I am home is use the john, weigh in, feed the dogs, take my blood sugar and BP, Make coffee, check in with goad, check e mail, check last the results of last nights game, the weather, my bank charges for the last 24 hrs, read the newspaper, walk the dogs.
Now that we are away in our RV for the next 3 - 4 weeks the morning routine is still evolving although the dogs are still at the top of the list!

Very much a creature of habit in the morning. Get up, use the bathroom, weigh myself, put on workout clothes, brush teeth, have breakfast while catching up on some Internet forums, go to fitness center and exercise, shower, put on work clothes, go to work. The mental part is my exercise time.

I usually get up, set up Cpap cleaner, make bed, go to bathroom, get weighed, check blood sugar, log both, make and eat breakfast, as do my prayers, then I check email, Face Book, news, etc. Should do my stretching and strength exercises next, but , usually, failing.
