How did you choose your "target weight"?

Just curious - how did you decide on your target weight?
For me it has to be a balance between feeling fit and healthy BUT still maintaining some curves, I am short and mesomorphic and if I lose too much I feel like I start to look masculine.
Also based on the weight I was able to maintain with no effort for many years in the past (before I put on these stubborn 15 lbs after moving in with my now-Husband!!). Here's hoping that when I get there again I can maintain it and not fall into husband induced bad habits again

I chose 63kg (I’m 169cm), because I have been there twice in the past and felt really good about my body (even though I still had a higher body fat percentage). The problem was that my goal was 58-60kg and I didn’t want to stop losing until I reached these lower numbers, which led to obsession, which led to bingeing and back where I started.
Looking back at my attempts, I can clearly remember (and I kept a journal) that 63 was when I felt consistently good, healthy and « enough ». Without losing curves either. My energy was high, meals enjoyable and clothes fit well.

I’m 42 and 5’4”. When my husband joined the military 18 years ago we bought our first scale. I went from a sedentary lifestyle with eating out quite often to an active lifestyle and healthy eating. I dropped from 140 to 120 and looked and felt my best. We’ve moved 8 times now and I tend to gain between 10-15lbs each time we move. I start feeling gross and hating the way my clothes fit, throw a pity party and then work it back off before moving again and repeating the cycle. Each time I land somewhere between 120-125 to look and feel my best again.4

I chose 148 because it's the middle of the healthy zone for me, and that was my weight when I was between 18 and 28... I felt great, looked good, and had so much more energy. MANY years have passed since then, I've never made it back down that low (though I did get back to my current weight when I hit my early 40s) and figure it's a good number to play with. Doctor agrees, though he's happy with me where I am.5

For most of my (younger) adult life (18-~32) I fairly easily maintained around the 128 range. So that was my goal. Now, I've been doing a lot more focused weight lifting, and while I was always strong before, I think I may have more muscle mass. So my goal weight isn't set in stone, and is more of a range like 128-132, but will really depend on my body and how I look when I get there.
Still have about 10-15 pounds to go, and that is definitely still there to lose (still have my fat-packs/saddlebags on my lower back/above my hips). The weight number is mostly just a number - who knows, I may get closer and decide to go a bit lower depending on how I look when I get there!3 -
I chose 70, as I've been going up and down a lot between 65 and 92 during my whole adult life.
70 is a weight were I feel good about myself, I can do physical activities without worries, I can wear the clothes I want and I'm within a normal BMI range.
I've been down to 65 once and I didn't feel comfortable as I got a "too skinny" feeling and my face was really thin.2 -

Oh my gosh...... I swear we have the exact same story. I've been pondering this a bit lately. Most of my adult life, I don't even know what I weighed, just went off how my clothes fit. I've picked a goal weight of 135ish - but I'm not sure if that's really where I want to be. I want ALL my clothes to fit the way they did before I moved in with my boyfriend, I'm making progress - but it's so slow. I totally changed my lifestyle and figuring out what works now is my current challenge. I'm 5'8" - currently 146 so I just want to tone up a bit and get rid of this muffin top I have going on at the moment.1 -
I have mine set at 147.5lbs. (That 0.5 is very important!). At that weight, I will be "normal" by all those stupid BMI calculators, haha. It's stupid and spiteful, but that's how I picked it. I went from 180 to 155 in 2018 and for 2019, I've been hovering around 155 without putting much effort into it. Just now trying to make the push to get to 147.5.4

My target weight is 135 lbs (I'm 5'5"). It was what I weighed 2 years ago when my clothes fit well. As I get closer to that number, I'm realizing I may need to lower it a bit as I still have a lot of fat around my waist.2

My goal weight is to be within 57-60 kg (125.5-132lb).
To have a BMI in the healthy range I'd have to be under 61.6kg.
I'm fairly muscular, but I really want to be in that statistical band, just because it's there.
We'll see when I get there, but I want to look really good for once, so I thought little under the top end of the BMI range would be good, and 60kg is a nice round number.
I did look through some success stories threads of people about my height to help me pick a weight too.3 -
I don't have a goal weight, more goal body composition within a weight range.7

I chose 140 because it puts me at a healthy BMI range but gives me a little wiggle room3

Mine would be 45 kg. I was 100 pounds(felt most comfortable) but recently am around 118-120which stinks since my thighs and butt seem to carry all the weight now. It helps to know that I’m 5 foot and most taller woman would look leaner at my current weight and yet I still look slightly bulkier so just gotta work on that, sometimes I hate being short because that means going the extra mile to not look chubby and having to be lighter than other taller woman because the BMI gets lower as your shorter. It also sadly means less food😭😭😭4

I chose 125 because that’s my upper threshold of looking and feeling my best. My clothes fit well. Any lower than 120 and I start looking too skinny and ribby now that I’m no longer a young chickadee. Yes, you can be too thin!8

This is a really good question: how did you choose your target weight.
When I was a teen, I kept the number of 120 in my mind and have never been able to shake that number, even as a woman in her 40s.
I never reached 120 lbs except when I was going through divorce and lost a lot of weight, even getting down below 120 (I am 5"3), because I had so much stress and couldn't stomach much food.
When I actually weighted my target weight, I felt that I was way too thin. I did not like being that thin.
So, now my target weight is 125 because I really liked how I looked at that weight. I also felt really healthy, whereas when I am 130+ I can feel a bit too bulky for my frame.7 -
Good question:
I chose 58-60kg, because I have once been at 61 and had the feeling I was still a little too heavy. Since I found my passion for running and mud-runs (I am training for my first 10k and mud run of 5k) I am not entirely sure, if I will stay with this target weight, but I'll find out. Right now, I am at 65kg with a height of 167cm.5 -

Might be a good time to consider a recomp rather than just losing, too - it's a slower process, but if you're at a weight you used to feel good about, that may (potentially) make you a bit happier. Just a thought!6 -
I chose 125 because, while heavier than my age 20 weight, for health in my sixties, it works. I also look good at that weight in photographs.

I am 5 ft 2 and I chose 110 lbs as my GW as I've been there many times before and that's when I feel and look my best. When I put on weight, i tend to store it in my upper body and mid section and I start to resemble a lollipop. At 110 lbs, I feel comfortable with my mid section and that's the area I am most concerned about as my family has a history of metabolic syndrome and abdominal obesity is a huge contributing factor for that disease.4

I used to be 165 lb and then lost it down to low 120s like 123-125, but recently gained back a lot of weight to around 135-138 lb. I'm 5 ft 5. My goal right now is that 125 area cause it put me in the middle of my healthy BMI range.4

Well I always been a big boned girl. (For all of you who say "no such thing!! That's a nice way of saying fat" bullcrap I'm living prove.) I'm six foot two, with a large frame skeletal frame. I have the type of body where I tell ppl my weight they don't believe me. They think I'm smaller than I really am. When I put on weight, I tend to get broader than fatter if that makes sense. My ideal goal weight is 180 pounds. My reason for picking this weight, when I went smaller it didn't fit me well at all!!! I looked not healthy at all. I looked sick. My face lost too much volume, let's just say the "gaunt look" is not for me. Friends and family thought I was sick or taking drugs 😂😂😂.
At 180 I'm between a medium and large in clothes. (Depends on the fit)6 -
I'm currently aiming for 57kg, again pulled out of the 'middle of the BMI-range' hat, but I'll also be talking to my doctor about what I should be aiming for. It'll ideally be a 3-kg range either side of that (no lower than 54, no higher than 60), I'm mesomorphic as well so just one weight is as likely me winning the lottery (I don't buy lottery tickets, you see...) 5'4", nearly 42-year-old who prefers the no-equipment sorts of exercise entirely because of convenience.1

You are absolutely correct. There are small, medium and large bone frames.
An easy (approximate) way to tell - take your middle finger and thumb and encircle the largest
part of the opposite wrist.
If your finger & thumb overlap - small boned (frame)
If your finger & thumb just touch - medium boned (frame)
If your finger & thumb do not touch - large boned (frame)
Or a person can measure.

My pinky and thumb just touch. Also you can measure the distance between the two trochanters at the end of your elbow when bent at 90 degrees. That measurement doesn't change no matter how fat or slim you are. https://m.wikihow.com/Measure-Elbow-Breadth

I've got an ongoing graph plot with a target range blocked out of 50-53kg. I'm slightly above the box right now (thanks, Christmas), so want to get back to the middle (I'm 5'3").
Historically i've yoyo'd between normally 62-54, then 3 years ago i gradually crept up to 71 and had a massive diet effort to get down to 50 in 2018. So being under 54kg is a new novelty at age 51 and i love it!! So now 53 is now the most i want to be. I actually got to 48 for a short time in 2018, but started to be too skraggy then, so 50 is my minimum (doubt i'll ever get there, and don't want to) and 51.5 is the dream really, allowing for wiggle room. But yeah, composition is important and i do weights regularly, but plan to ramp it up a bit this year once this next kg is gone.0 -

142 = I LOVE ME (1 letter word, 4 letter word, 2 letter word. I stole this concept from Mr Rodgers). My happy range where I like how I look, feel great working out/running is 140-144. Started using waist circumference to measure progress and I took note of the weight I am at a waist circumference I feel good at and lets me eat pizza (140-144). I have been overweight, and underweight. I am 5'7". I gave up focusing on the outside- depending on which exercise class I am in, I can be self conscious about being too big/muscular or too little/thin. I am strong and my muscles, scars, and not-always-flat mommy tummy tell a story of a life living the road less traveled, that the scale never will reflect.

I chose it from what is healthy for my height and small body structure. 120 is just a cool number and a healthy weight for me...but my body loves being 150-160. Its annoying1

125 to 130. I got to that number by eating lots of veggies/some fruits, moderate amounts of whole grains and adequate protein. I find that the healthier I eat the more naturally the scale drops and the better I feel. So, while that's the number it is really the feeling I get when I do the right things to get to that number!
BTW, please friend me! My food diary shows me in my calorie range but not healthy eating!3
