Regained the Weight I Lost (plus some)

Five years ago I lost 40 pounds and was so proud of myself. But now I've regained it all PLUS 10 pounds. I've always heard maintenance is difficult. So now I'm a new member to MFP and starting over again. I've always loved fruits and vegetables and cooking from scratch. My weakness is alcohol but am currently alcohol-free and feeling healthier already. I'm looking forward to this clean eating journey. Please say hi !

Hi to Twistygirl and Satisfied ! Has MFP worked well for you? Are you trying to lose weight? Please tell me a little about yourselves.0
-
Hi! I have the same experience... I used MFP the first time to lose 40lbs and I’m hoping it will work again!1
-
I use MFP to plan my day and to track the outcome. Calories are not as important as the quality of my food. Then I stick to my plan to the best of my ability.1

To ajroseyoung: I used SparkPeople the first time to lose 40 lbs. MFP seems easier to use. We've done it before - we can do it again! Let's keep in touch and cheer each other on.
To Satisfied: Yes ! Eating healthy is what it's all about. Good Point ! Let's check in every day on this group. Together we can do this !1 -
Right on! Great choices lead to great results!0

My breakfast every morning this week has been plain low-fat yogurt with cut up fresh fruit such as a nectarine, peach, or cantaloupe. I've lost 6 pounds in my first week with MFP ! So happy this is working. What is your usual breakfast?1

Green protein smoothie with MCT oil. 4 cups of kale, chard and spinach, 2 scoops of protein powder, 1 tbsp of cacao powder, 1 tbsp of chia seeds, 1 tbsp of MCT oil, 1 cup water, 25 cubes of ice.0

Satisfied: Interesting ! I've never had a green smoothie. Also not familiar with MCT oil. What does that stand for? Can you buy chia seeds in a regular grocery store? Does sound like you take your breakfast seriously. I'm eating lunch while I type this: Homemade tossed garden salad with light ranch dressing. Really enjoying it ! What do you like for lunch?0

I eat a Garden Salad with Chicken & Paleo Poppyseed Dressing 4-5 times a week. It is so good. I use Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Mayo and 3/4 tsp stevia in the Dressing! The dressing recipe is online. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. It’s made from coconut oil. Chia seeds are most everywhere.1

I lost 40ish lbs in 2014 with WW and I've gained it all back too. Since then I've gotten married, moved across the country and have started a new job. I put eating right and getting out to walk daily on the backburner. I'm just starting up yet again, hoping we can all motivate one another to keep at it!2

Time to make a commitment to yourself! This journey is 99% mental and 1% Physical.1

I'm in a similar position. It took me a while to admit it since I was so ashamed of regaining the weight.1

Perfection and overwhelm are often our worst enemies. It’s ok to fail, as long as you keep failing forward!2

I've discovered as I get older my metabolism changes every 5 years! Now I'm over 55 and I've started putting on gut fat. I've recently read a book 'Younger Next Year for Women" (there's one for men too). It's help me realize that I need to give myself time, don't look for short term fast weight gain, but rather eat clean, exercise, and concentrate on my mental well being. Take one day at a time and see where I am a year from now. Who's with me?2

Help! I'm new to all of this. Need motivation and friends that will help motivate me and get me to make better choices.0

Hello @greeneyedlady933 and welcome. I also went alcohol free to help reduce weight and improve my overall fitness. I’m enjoying the benefits. I’m at 4 months AF now. I’m cheering you on !!0

Same here. I haven’t weighed this much in 14 years. I was pregnant with first child. Blah I hate feeling like this.0

Feel free to add me as a friend. Maybe we can help each other.

Hey there. Welcome! Regaining weight seems to be part of the cycle. Glad that you're on the upcycle now of getting back to where you want to be!1

Yep I know what you're going thru. First I went thru the weight gain with menopause, not my hormones have changed again (post menopause) and I'm going thru the Gut / middle gain. I"m starting over with the food log, because I found it's certain food I can't eat anymore. Diet has a lot to do with it. Cheese is a big NO. I have recently discovered Nutritional Yeast which when sprinkled on food gives the taste of cheese. Anyway, just know that EVERYONE goes thru the weight roller coaster! Keep positive!0

I am new to this group. I am here to receive support and give support. Years ago, I lost down almost to my goal and then gained it all back. I never learned how to maintain. I was part of a food addict group and when I lost my abstinence from flour and sugar, I was never able to get back and wasn't able to keep a sponsor. Sponsor drop you when you break your abstinence which for me just made me feel guilt and shame. So these days, I am not too hard on myself with guilt and shaming. Now I make goals and try to meet them. Last year, I lost over 30 pounds and kept it off. This year, I want to lose at least 30 pounds and the most, 79 pounds. Today I weighed myself. I am 279. So I have joined some groups on Facebook for support and now this group.1

tgibsonFitness I have so totally been looking for a food addict group but can't find any in my small town. One would think it should be like Hollywood's version of AA...hang in there to see if we can't pull you back in? Maybe it is good I never found such a group. We are going to fail, more in the beginning, and even after our successes.
My brain gets hungrier than my stomach. I can tell you exactly what foods are in my house at any given moment in time. So, out of sight is not out of mind. Perhaps we both can find the support we need through this group.
Clean eating is hard because it is more expensive, takes longer to prepare and you actually have to think and plan for it. And then through on top that I am a picky eater. Clean eating is so much healthier, especially when there are so many chemicals in food now days. On top of wanting to eat cleaner, my husband requires a low carb diet which just adds more forethought to meal planning.
I had lost about 15 pounds a year ago...gained it back and then some. I need to lose at least 40 pounds now.0
