    Hi all!

Rocking and rolling around here! I like it! Congrats on your awesome fasting - Kate and Mama!

Yep, I hear you about kitchen appliances - we are at maximum capacity too. I had to promise to get rid of the slow cooker (it is put away for now ;)) for us to be able to pick up an Instant Pot. LOL

Been perusing all sorts of Keto Friendly Instant Pot recipes and very excited to try some this weekend. For now my guy has been making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot and they have come out awesome!

Today we had a luncheon at work. I had a Cobb salad with mixed greens, Gorgonzola cheese, bacon, avocado, grilled chicken, and oil and vinegar dressing on the side. No cake for me!! :D I find it is difficult to track meals eaten away from home. I gave it my best guess. Drinking a lot of water this afternoon and planning to stick to my 1200 calorie limit for the day. Hoping to see some type of a loss tomorrow AM when I weigh in!

Hope everybody has a great rest of the day. See you soon.

Yikes, been a bit since I checked in with you all. Glad to see you all making progress. I've been a bit under the weather, I've a kidney infection (I've chronic kidney infection due to a irregularity in my one kidney) so last week I just did OMAD (one meal a day) all week. I still have been losing so I can can't complain too much.

This week I've been able to fast a bit more just coming off a 2.5 day fast (Tuesday evening to Friday noon.) I have a social engagement this evening, with drinks, so food isn't optional today. 😂 I'll see how I feel this weekend, but I'm hoping for another day and a half fast, but we shall see.

I'm now within 3 pounds of my lowest weight in the last 10 years (give or take) with no plateau in site yet. 🤞 Really hoping to get 10lbs more pounds off before things start to slow down on the scale. When I first started losing, it seemed like my body shape didn't change much for first 30lbs, but now every few pounds is making a big change. Funny how that works.

    Chat soon! ♥

    Good morning everybody!

@A_Dabauer congrats on your successful fasts and your loss! Isn't it cool to be that close to your low in the last ten years!? High Five!! Hope you feel better. I can imagine kidney stuff is no fun...

I weighed in this morning and I am down 1.4 lbs. This is just shy of 40 lbs down, since starting Keto on August 5, 2019. :) I am also almost back in the 160's. Two years ago when we went to the Dominican Republic in May of 2018, I weighed in at around 162-164. I hope to be less than that for this year's trip to the Caribbean. That will also be the lowest weight I have been since the early 90's.

We haven't booked our vacation yet, but planning to head back to Jamaica once Jet Blue finally announces their sale. Hurry up already Jet Blue. LOL Definitely something to look forward to, that is for sure.

Hope everybody has a nice weekend. I will check in with you guys soon. Take care.

I started laundry, made pancakes and didn't break my fast. (Maybe a couple little nibbles ;) ) Now, I am going to take a shower, run errands, and then clean the house. This place is a mess!

@A_Dabauer Congratulations on the loss! I hope you feel better! That is no fun.

@Meghan509 I am so jealous of your vacation! I am absolutely planning to head to the Caribbean in a few years when the kids are gone. :) Congrats on the loss, too!

All these people hitting record lows is inspiring! We can all do this! Have a great weekend! Happy Fasting!

Thanks, @Meghan509 and @KateNkognito I'm sure I'll be feeling great in no time.

So jealous of a vacation, though I do get to go to Las Vegas in two weeks for "work," I'm sure I'll be enjoying a bit more than a typical week of work. LOL. This will be my first time being away since starting fasting. I've told myself that if I maintain for that week, that will be a huge win! Still kind of formulating my game plan for the week fasting/feasting wise. But think it's going to look something like this, complete fast on my travel days, and 18:6 (ish) on the other days. I'll skip breakfast, eat lunch and dinner. I'll try to keep it low carb, but also keep it balanced with enjoying myself.

One thing I've learned over a lifetime of dieting is you need to balance life with your diet. Weight loss benefits aside, that's the thing I love most about fasting is the flexibility to change your day or your week around your social engagements without feeling like you've "fallen" off the wagon. You fast a bit more prior, or after and it frees you up to enjoy events and activities that include food. :)

Last time I weighed, before Christmas, I was 157.4 .... I just weighed and now I’m 161.00..!!!!! I’m going backwards people! Geez! Gotta give it time I suppose. ‘Cause just mayyyybe I was 163 last week and didn’t even know it!!? Soooo, yes gotta find a sneaky way to pat myself on the back!! Next week I’ll weigh again on Friday and hopefully will be heading in the right direction!!

Sorry to hear kidney issues @A_Dabauer that must be scary to deal with. Am wondering, when you’re not fasting, if you avoid those foods on the no-go list for kidney patients; avocados, bananas, whole wheat/brown rice etc... there’s a whole list of them..? Just curious. Hope you feel better!!

Meghan you’re on target! A whopping 40lbs!!! Weightloss Queen!! I think Jet Blue is just waiting for you to be in the 160’s so the sale is right around the corner!! Hope you enjoyed your very fresh salad! ;). I actually bought some seeds yesterday and I’m going to try growing a few veggies from seed this year!! (I’m a beginner gardener, so this may be a disaster)

Kate I told my son to vacuum the upstairs yesterday since I was so busy and it’s “reading week” so he’s home... I went out with the dog and come back to the couch pulled away from the wall while he’s vacuuming all around and under things.... hated to not tell him I don’t move the furniture when I vacuum, so I just let him know he was doing a good job and left him to it!! Hahaha poor guy, he actually thinks I’m that thorough every time I vacuum!! Haha ......Oh, and ps: the kids really never leave and if they do, they can come back... book your trip!!! ;)

Hello to Orlcam!!!! Hope all is well down there!

Waving hi to all those reading...
Have a great weekend and happy Friday!!

@mamainthekitchen LOL! Could you please send your son to my house?

@A_Dabauer That is the thing that has kept me coming back to fasting. I love the flexibility to let it fit into my lifestyle and then slowly make healthier choices to add to it.

Yesterday's fast was a bit of a flop. I started feeling gross in the evening, so I had some Ramen and some cheese. That put me higher than a fast, but still a low-cal day. I skipped breakfast this morning to make up for it. I have hormones going on, so I am not expecting a loss tomorrow. But, after 4 fasts next week, I am hoping for a really good loss. Enjoy your weekend!

    Hi all

    Hoping I can join u?

I did my first fast day ever yesterday, consumed 500cals I started Thursday at 17:00 and ended this morning at 9am (40hours) I didn’t find it too hard, which was a relief!

So today is. “Normal” day and so far so good, although I have tummy ache, I think I may have been a little too greedy :)

Can I ask some questions? Today is a normal day for me, and tomorrow will also be a normal day, should I still try to go 16 hours between finishing eating today and starting eating tomorrow? Or doesn’t it matter as long as I do my 36 hours fasting twice a week?

    Thank you :) x

@loulouowens Welcome to our group! Congratulations on your first fast! In answer to your questions: whatever works for you. The 5:2 as described by Michael Mosely says to eat normally on the 5 days. BUT, a lot of people do shorten their eating window on non-fast days. That is kind of the best part of fasting, you get to make it fit your lifestyle. Ask any questions you have. Look through the posts at the top of the forum. Welcome to our group!

Welcome @loulouowens !! I echo what Kate said in that fasting can be done to suit your needs. Do check out the 5:2 documentary by Mosely, link is on our first forum page at top. There are a few different ways to fast. Some people choose 20:4, 18:6, or 16:8... or any combination with best fasting results happening after 16hrs. There is some controversy over fasting longer than 24 hrs, so just do your research to see what you believe is right for you. During eating hours you should stay within maintenance calorie counts for best results. Then the 5:2 method (which was this forums original title) is quite easy in that for 5 days you eat at maintenance and choose two non consecutive days to eat 500-600cals for the day with no time restriction, so what works best may be to fast until 2pm then have a yogurt or something small, then save 400 cals for dinner and you’re done! (that’s what I like, but others save their 500 cals for one dinner). The kicker is to eat enough protein the day before and don’t fast so long that you binge the next day!! It’s sometimes a breeze and other times so very difficult! Others add keto in the mix and have great results but again, your choice....we’re here for you!!
    Ask away..

    Mama

Good morning and happy Monday all!

@loulouowens welcome! So glad you found our little corner of the internet! You got great advice from the others here, hope everything goes smoothly for you!

@mamainthekitchen and @KateNkognito hope your weeks go well! @orlcam hi!! B)

@A_Dabauer I found when I was traveling for work last month that it was pretty easy to stick to my WOE. I found a lot of the food I didn't eat due to the high carb / sugar content so what I could eat was less... I did eat breakfast in the AM since I was worried that lunch and or dinner would not be fulfilling and honestly I was glad I did. You do what works best for you! :)

Sigh, no Jet Blue sale yet! LOLOL But you better believe I am keeping an eye out. :#

Things are good here. Sticking to Keto and 16:8 eating window from 1pm to 9pm give or take. Made a lovely dish in our new Instant Pot last night - chicken breasts, cauliflower, coconut milk, and curry seasoning. Came out fabulous and so easy! I think we made a good purchase and I am looking forward to all the yummy stuff we will be able to make!

    See you guys soon!

    Good morning all!

Hope you survived Monday okay! Tuesday is here. Same thing planned as yesterday, for me. Stick to my Keto WOE and eat meals between 1pm to 9pm. Drink lots of water, take my vitamins, etc.

Have a great day and see you all soon. B)

Pretty normal fast day. I *may* have had a couple of snack sized chocolates, though. :o Otherwise, pretty darned good. I cooked dinner again. What? I think the world would end if I did that for a third night in a row, so I will grab carry out tomorrow. :D Have a great rest of the week! Happy fasting!

    Good morning all!

LOL @KateNkognito It seems I am around snack sized chocolates all the time... I have a colleague who stocks the break areas in our office with them. :( Stay strong!

Things are good here. Sticking to my Keto WOE and drinking my water, vitamins, etc. All good.

Have a great day and see you all soon.

Today was... busy. That's a good word for it. :o Let's just say there were many tiny chocolates that were sacrificed (snacrificed?) to ensure that everyone made it out alive. Tomorrow is a fast day. I will stay strong. I have my salad packed and an emergency KIND bar if I need it.

@Meghan509 I admire your fortitude in standing strong against the chocolate. :)

Have a great second half of the week! Happy fasting!

    Haha ‘snacrificed’ ?????? Hahaha
    Love that Kate!!!
And YES, Meghan, how DO you do it???? Sometimes I think I’m better saying no out in public, but not at home. It certainly doesn’t help if I’m shopping down the candy isle either!! I figure it’s cheaper if I buy a larger bag of wine gums, and convince myself they’ll look cute in a little dish on an end table.... then later while watching tv, I grab some... then well, you know where this is going! But how do you not buy it??? Argh !!
Yesterday was my 31st wedding anniversary!! Being a rainy dull day (not like last year when it was full blue sky and we took that seaplane tour over the big city!!) so we headed to a cute little restaurant for appitizers and a glass of wine... nice being a quiet day we got the best table!
Made an omelette this morning with bacon on the side for lunch then had coleslaw & chicken for dinner... other than the entire bag of wine gums, I did just fine! :s

Hope everyone else is staying strong! Have a good day!!

    Good morning all!

Thursday is here - almost Friday!! WOO HOO!

Too funny... Thank you both! Regarding your comment on how I do it. At home we have no "illegal" foods or sweets. Maybe a stray box or two of pasta up in the cabinet that we didn't want to toss, but otherwise nothing. Work is different of course, as mentioned previously.

Honestly, by not eating any sugar and less carbs and by following the Ketogenic Lifestyle I have ZERO CRAVINGS which for me is one of the best positives of the Keto WOE. Another positive is pretty much ZERO hunger. Two of the main things that have always derailed whatever WOE I was following in the past.

Yes, I do miss pizza and I miss baked goods. But, honestly no big deal. Feeling better, losing weight, and having zero to little inflammation is better for me. Last year at this time I was waking up in pain every day, dealing with hip pain, back pain, general blah feeling all the time. Physical Therapy for ten months! Now pretty much no pain.

Tomorrow is weigh in day for me and I am hoping I am down .8 or more because then that will mean I am back in the 160's. Let's goooo!!

Have a great day and see you all soon. :)

I’m feeling a tad competitive.... haha as I too would like to be in the 150’s and your bday is as good a day as any!!! ;)

I’ll post a little later.... going back to bed!!! I’m a grown *kitten* woman who drank too much red wine last night... o m g !! >:)

Welcome, @loulouowens! As the other ladies here have mentioned, make fasting work for your life, there is no "single" way to fast. For me personally the key thing that I try to achieve is keeping my insulin as low as possible as frequently as possible. Insulin is your fat-storage hormone, and keeping it low really aids in your weight loss efforts! While most of us are aware that insulin is raised when we eat carbs, all foods have an impact on insulin. So the key is to increase the length of time between eating (not reduce calories as most diets recommend). In a traditional alternate day fasting schedule or a 5:2 schedule, which it seems that you're describing, you'd eat 18:6 or 16:8 on your eating days. When in your eating window, you want to focus on eating a full meal and not snacking if possible. Again, this is just basic guidelines, lots of us follow many different methods and strategies. For myself, I look at my schedule for the week and then decide what method I'm using what days. I use everything from 18:6, one meal a day (OMAD), alternate-day fasting, all the way up to a single 100 or so hour fast in a week, depends on how I'm feeling or what's going on! Good luck and feel free to ask as many questions as you like!

So it's been a bit of a challenging week here. Not surprisingly, taking an antibiotic gave me nausea and the like, I had no energy and generally felt like crap all week. I added a probiotic into the mix and that has helped with the GI effects thankfully, but the week was mostly a write-off in the weight loss category. I floated 3-5 pounds above last week's low most of the week. All in all, considering how fast I've been losing prior to this, I'm not upset at a single week stall in the slightest, just a bit annoying. LOL! And then this morning, 24 hours after taking my last antibiotic, the scale found a new low again. Only half a pound lower than last week, but I'll take it!

Next week is going to be challenging for a whole other reason. I'm going to Vegas for a conference, so food choices will be limited unless you count alcohol as a food choice. 🤣🤣🤣 My plan is to fast on my travel days, and 18:6 or maybe even OMAD on the days I'm at the conference, I'm certainly aiming to balance fun with keeping on working that scale in a downward direction! In some ways, this will be a good test of the difference between fasting and my old normal. Other times I've travelled even being careful as I can with food choices invariably I put on at least a pound a day while I'm away, and then I would lose those pounds at a snail's pace on my return. It was so frustrating. In theory, anyway, keeping your insulin low overtime is supposed to help with resetting your leptin sensitivity. Leptin is the hormone that makes your weight loss rebound. So here's to seeing how I rebound or don't rebound.

Blonde moment here, I totally didn't realize there was a whole page of comments I missed!

Huge congratulations to @Meghan509 on hitting the 160's! I'm hoping to be there in a month or so myself! However I've some significant numbers to pass in the 170's yet, you know those plateaus I never could ever pass in the past. *Fingers Crossed*

@mamainthekitchen I do similar to Meghan, regarding forbidden foods. Nothing is forbidden, but I don't buy the things I typically wouldn't eat. I seldom even go down the middle isles of the store, as that's where all the dry foods are, and I typically eat, whole unprocessed foods, which are all on the outside edges of the grocery store. :) Also like Meghan (we really might be twins) ;) I get a lot of pain and inflammation when eating those types of foods so it really makes such a big change to my health when I avoid them. I don't eat strict keto, just generally low carb, I will add some sweet potato for a treat, or I love sushi, so eat rice there on occasion too! Honestly, that's one of the things I like about fasting the most, is I have to choose "less" food to eat because I aim for close to 50% of my meals to now be fasts. :D

Thanks for the info @A_Dabauer and yes Meghan’s had amazing improvement with her inflammation by changing her diet! Oh and yes wine is a food group!!! Although judging by how I STILL feel, I’m going to omit that group for a while!! ;)

I’ve got a ton of housework here and it’s gorgeous outside!!! My daffodils are almost in full bloom!!
Off to have a boiled egg and leftover ham.... then power through my chores!
    Have a great Saturday people!!
