We are being overwhelmed by hype.
The truth is that this is no where near the worst time in history nor the worst disease in history.
There is a real threat, but there are real threats to life every day. Life must go on.

March 12
Exercised: Yes (5km walk in 37 mins - hills)
Tracked: Yes
Budget: Yes
Fastest walk in a long time.
Busy day.
Enquired about blood donation, but they will not take me for 4 weeks until the anti-depressant has settled in and I know if/what any side effects are.
Only side effects so far are mild-insomnia (waking more frequently), weird dreams and elevated heart rate (wear a heart rate monitor 24/7).
@RangerRickL. Agree, COVID-19 is not the worst disease in history, nor is now the worst time ever. (Not by a long shot).
I am not personally worried about COVID-19. Being healthy, myself and most of my family is low risk. We take the same care for hygiene as we have always done.
What seems to be driving the fear is more media sensationalization.
What is true is that COVID-19 is as infectious as the flu but can pose a greater health risk to those that have pre-existing health issues (whether through, genetics, age or lifestyle).
Unlike the flu, there is no vaccine available ... yet. To produce a vaccine and get it through trials for release will take till near the end of the calendar year.
Most of the public measures (sporting shutdowns, quarantine, etc...) are to try limit the spread to protect the most vulnerable in the community. Most countries health systems are straining. This just adds more pressure.
For the average person COVID-19 is likely to be no worse than maybe a severe cold.
From: www.livescience.com
81% of those people infected with COVID-19 only have mild symptoms and do not need hospitalisation. About 13.8% report severe illness, 4.7% report critical illness (more than half the critical patients recover).
Ref: https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-myths.html
So in addressing the elephant in the room with facts (Like the World Health Organization - https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses)Should I worry about COVID-19?
Illness due to COVID-19 infection is generally mild, especially for children and young adults. However, it can cause serious illness: about 1 in every 5 people who catch it need hospital care.Who is at risk of developing severe illness?
While we are still learning about how COVID-2019 affects people, older persons and persons with pre-existing medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease, cancer or diabetes) appear to develop serious illness more often than others.Should I wear a mask to protect myself?
Only wear a mask if you are ill with COVID-19 symptoms (especially coughing) or looking after someone who may have COVID-19. Disposable face mask can only be used once. If you are not ill or looking after someone who is ill then you are wasting a mask. There is a world-wide shortage of masks, so WHO urges people to use masks wisely. Is it safe to receive a package from any area where COVID-19 has been reported?
Yes. The likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low.How long does the virus survive on surfaces?
It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems to behave like other coronaviruses. Studies suggest that coronaviruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).
If you think a surface may be infected, clean it with simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect yourself and others. Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.
Sorry for the long post.11 -
Exercised: Yes, an amazing run plus a walk with my dog later.
Tracked: Yes.
Budget: Quite good. Came out exactly even with the recommended amount of good fat, courtesy of coconut oil and avocado.7 -
Pass #2
Feed a cold and starve a fever. I've been feeding this cold. Went ever so slightly over.7 -
Fri 13:
Exercise: 107 mins, including an hour walking in the countryside with DH.
Calories: Yes
Tracked: Yes

Another reason for the closings, etc. is to slow down the progress of the disease so that medical facilities don't get overwhelmed. They are attempting to flatten the bell curve of serious cases so they can properly care for them.
Friday is a normal shopping day for me. I think half of my area was in the grocery store. It was a madhouse. If just one of those people was shedding COVID-19...8 -
I had to buy food at Marseille station on the way to Nice and the best I could do was 650 calories for a mini panini and a bulgur, shrimp and avocado salad. Quite nice, but had to use up almost all my exercise calories. So, stayed under, just.
Exercise: Yes, an hour-long Yoga class and an additional 50 minutes walking.
Tracking: Yes, logged everything.
Examining tomorrow afternoon and I had hoped to be able to go to the Matisse museum in the morning, but I fear it may be closed because of Corona virus... I think all my planned fun activities next week have been cancelled because of it.9 -

Just to highlight this a little further.
For most people, the affects are not severe. However, for the small percentage that it is, they require medical assistance.
The measures are not likely not reduce the overall number of people who are infected in the long term. What it does do is spreads it out over a longer period of time.
For the sake of medical resource capacity, the best case is for the situation to continue for as long as possible. This is so when someone does have complications that medical capacity is available to assist.
Unfortunately the long case means longer inconvenience. However if it allows more people who need assistance to get assistance, it is worth it.
I have people in my extended family who are in elevated risk categories. In the unlikely case they fall ill, then have complications, I would want facilities to be available to help them (not stretched beyond capacity).7 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Yes, did 22 minutes of HIIT.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Had to count my overall steps of the day as I'm spending the evening drinking with friends, but yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?
Yes !6 -
Exercised? Yes, did Jillian Michaels 10 Minute body DVD
Tracked? Yes
Under calories? Yes
The place where we take ceramics just called to tell us that it's closed until the end of March. In some ways, I resent this. I resent being told basically "you can't make a good decision so we'll make it for you". If I wish to expose myself to a possible virus, that should be MY decision. I just feel this way because on the nights when we usually go there are, at most, 6 people.
Oh well...the media hype. I had to go to the store to pick up a prescription and a few other things, and I just happened to walk down the aisle where the toilet paper is. The shelves were completely wiped out. Hey people, this virus doesn't cause diarrhea. What are you doing? Stocking up for the next 6 months?
I'm surprised that people aren't wearing latex gloves. The things you touch every day (doorknobs, telephones, remote controls. They may be OK in your home, but in a public place? No matter how well they are cleaned, I wouldn't want to take the chance.) Maybe Sheldon Cooper was onto something. Remember the episode where he wore mittens all the time?

Despite it only being just past 7:30 pm , I am declaring today a "Goals Met" day. First day back to work after a garden-variety cold ... I walked in the door with over 220 fitbit exercise credit calories in the bag! So I priced out my evening snack (still more than 10 calories to the green) and I have yet to begin a "just for the stress-decrease" walking exergame session ....
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, over 9459 steps just at work, and will be doing still more before bed
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes - planned evening snack still leaves me under even BEFORE evening exercise walking
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Days goals met 11
Pass days so far 2 (1 intentional; 1 just-happened)
@craigo3154 , you said yesterday that posting a link to the whole Cannot Be Done poem was a great find .... actually I have known that entire poem off by heart since high school ... and I'm 61 .... (just had to check author's actual name and find a link)

COVID -19 absolute nuts in upstate NY you would think Armageddon was coming don’t know about the rest of you folks but really the flu is out pacing it and no one seems to concerned about that. I could write a book about the things I have seen in local stores ...... let’s get real folks. Stay home if your sick wash your hands and take care of yourself!!
On a lighter note did my spin logged and tracked picked up my new full face motorcycle helmet at lunch today maybe I will wear out in case someone sneezes on me 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Pass #1
No exercise.
Think I picked up a cold. You'd think extra hand washing and sanitizer would've prevented that. Of course, for me, it could also be really bad allergies. Only time will tell, but decided to rest anyway.

Pass #2 - wha, wha, wha...
Exercise? YES
Calorie budget? NO
Denny's friends birthday breakfast AND ladies movie night with theater popcorn.
Track? YES

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Stair treadmill, weights, body strength, yoga, and walking.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Day isn't over but yes, I've pre-logged the rest and might add a little to add more calories. I burned way more than I thought already.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes, but forgot to log my Altoids, this question always busts me with something small like that!
I fall into two of the high risk categories, diabetes (diet-controlled now) and high blood pressure though it's not ridicuously high, just started being higher a few months ago. My Mom has old age leukemia so she's a higher risk, I'm more careful because of that. I get flu shots every year even though I'm allergic to something in them to help keep her safe. In the gym I used to just wipe down everything with a towel, switched to the provided spray and paper towels but they dry up real fast, so I took Clorox wipes in a baggy today. It added about 10 minutes to my routine plus wiping down my stuff when I left but I'd rather be too careful. Stopped at a discount store on the way home, it was more crowded than usual but everyone was super friendly and cooperative. Things were low and items like dried beans were limited to 2 bags per person but it was better than I expected. No way would I go to Costco or Walmart right now!6 -
YEs x 3. 45 minutes HIIT circuit training5

Pass day #2
As of today, my school district is closed for the next 3 weeks. While I’m not personally worried about this virus, I do have a lot of anxiety around uncertainty. Not knowing what is expected with regards to my job triggered me eating all the things 🤷🏽♀️ tomorrow is another day.9 -

I'm in the United States in Pennsylvania, about an hour from Washington, D.C. The store shelves are empty of toilet paper (can't understand that one), paper towels, bleach, Clorox and Lysol wipes, and hand sanitizer -- and people are also buying bottled water and canned goods like crazy.
I'm more worried about human behavior and panic than I am about the virus.
But I do have a job where I come into contact with the public. I worry about giving the virus to my 88 year old neighbor, should I catch it. I walk her little dog as a favor almost every day.
Adding this: I want to express my appreciation for all the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who expose themselves to very sick people every day, including people with the coronavirus. You're all heroes and we couldn't make it without you.8 -
I’m closing the tracker with another well managed day.
Yes x3
3 passes left.
Have a successful day tomorrow all!6 -
I’m 69 and I have asthma. In my opinion, it is obvious that Covid-19 is now part of the general community environment. We do need to suppress the spread although that spread is unavoidable. I really appreciate @craigo3154 explaining how the suppression strategy is to deliberately stretch out the length of the spread so as to maintain the integrity of the health care system
On the daily post front it was a 3 yes day7 -
Tired. Have a situational at work, 3 x all. I’m going to bed. 🤦🏼♀️
Probably going to take a planned pass day tomorrow. I will confirm or deny tomorrow.
Working in healthcare during a pandemic is a *kitten*. 🤷♀️6 -
