This is where you can share what's on your mind. Recipes, ideas, workouts, anything that you think might be helpful to others.
Maybe, you've tried something that has worked for you in the past and would like to share it with the group. Maybe, you have a NSV (Non Scale Victory) that you would like to share with the group. Anything that you feel comfortable sharing or anything that you feel comfortable asking the group with help....this is the place to come.
The GOOD!! What NSV did you have this week!!
The BAD!! So what....you ate the whole thing!!
The UGLY!! That darn scale went through the window this week....it deserved it too!!
So, what's on your mind today??

Trying to figure out a schedule for myself to get this done4

I am entering my 2nd full month of "staying stable while adjusting to working from home". The business model of my sector (particularly my business line within the sector) is likely to stick with the "Distributed Teams" approach for quite a while. No impact on the "income or employment status" issue, thank heaven. The general world around me continues to do its slow&controlled re-opening (retail and various categories of private businesses), so this is NOT the same as indefinite ongoing lock down.
I am starting the month with the determination to shift from "good-enough setup & routine for make-do" into doing a full reorg both of personal space and mind-space towards "optimum for the longer haul" set up and routines
Got a good start on that beginning yesterday.
I began the "shifting here to there" initial manouver. Nothing actually tossed but a few easy-to-categorize papers .... BUT- the spare bed is out of my "BMcC's Room"
- the stuff that WAS in the Box Room next door (most of which CAN'T be discarded for various important reasons) binned and moved elsewhere
- table from Box Room shifted to BMcC's Room - now I have a workable "home-office surface" in one corner and a "craft&hobbies surface" in the opposite corner.
- spare bed now in the Box Room; along with an attractive storage cube (that was already stuffed with corralled crafting supplies) to act as a "bedside table" and stand for the only lamp in there so far.
- the Box Room is starting to evolve into "useable multi-purpose space" - details to be determined later.
The point is - DH is convinced I will end up taking over both rooms as "BMcC Space" and I am determined that with proper set-up I WON'T be. Being able to have the two "stations" in the same room go a very long way in the right direction.
I don't want the "home office" ambiance to be tooooo "Senior Executive Level" to the point that if/when I eventually start spending more hours there than at home down the road (even if down the road is more than 6 months away) the going-back-to-my-tiny-at-work-real-estate won't be as much of a shock to the system.
For those of you who are new here - it has become our habit to put longer posts inside "spoilers" to allow others to read-details-or-not as they choose. The amount of info YOU feel comfortable sharing or reading either here or in the Daily Report threads is 100% up to you.6 -
This is just an FYI for when I post more here. I am currently battling an episode of MDD (major depressive disorder). I am on medication for it and having sessions with a psychologists. It will likely be a long road to recovery for me. Some of my posts may be overly self critical. If so, please pull me up on it.
Short post about what's on my mind.
With short days and poor weather, there will often be days that I cannot get out and walk. My walking is needed, not only as exercise, but as "self reflective, therapy time". Bodyweight exercises can be done for activity, but they do not give me that "self reflective, therapy time". Miss too many walk days and my mood rapidly spirals down.
Anyone else know of a low/no-impact, no equipment, indoor cardio exercise that I can use as a substitute for walking on wet days?
The hard bit is "no equipment" (no treadmill, stationary bike, rowing machine, elliptical, etc...).
Bodyweight works more on strength than endurance and tends to not be sustainable for more than a few minutes on any single exercise.

Hello everyone!!
Like many of you, I am stuck at home. My state is re-opening, and while gyms have the green light to open (with restrictions), I am not ready to go back to a gym.
I have been following Blogilates.com’s monthly calendar since April, where the instructor, Cassey, focuses on Pilates, bodyweight, and cardio exercises with a fun “you can do it!” attitude. What I really love is that her calendar has all the videos you need to complete each day, and they all take less than an hour. Sometimes, if I don’t feel up to all 4 videos, I’ll just do 2, which is still between 20-30 minutes of exercise. 😊
So if you’re looking for a new workout from home, I highly recommend her videos, especially if you don’t own weights.4 -
I just moved the bueru that has been my nemisis downstairs by myself. When I started this journey in late August I would not have considered moving it by myself. On the landing of the staircase there are floor to ceiling mirrors.
I convinced myself I could do it and with a little planning and one failed attempt I finally got it done.
We can convince ourselves we can just as well as we can convince ourselves we cannot. I'm choosing the former. Of course I will be pleasantly sore tomorrow. And, may have a bruise or two.
Now to get the Salvation Army here to pick it up. YEAH!!!
Hope everyone had a success today. We can do this!

@craigo3154 Have you tried yoga? There are loads of free videos on YouTube (personally I like Yoga with Adrienne). While initially you will need to concentrate to get used to the moves, once you know them it will take less concentration and if you have a space that you won't be disturbed the flow allows your mind time to do whatever it wants, especially if you find a few videos you like and go through them multiple times so you know the order of the moves. All you need is a small space with a carpet (you don't actually need a yoga mat).2
-
@craigo3154 have you tried the Walk Away the Pounds series? You can find them on YouTube. Fun walks when you are stuck indoors.2
-
@craigo3154 I did some Tai Chi when I was in China and pretty stuck. Qi gong also. Ask some people on this platform, they walk for miles indoors while watching videos of the world. I saw weather in Melbourne, horrendous! However, while today, Tuesday, still looks really bad, the rest of the week seems a lot better, until you're getting another wet and horrible weekend. I empathise entirely. Weather here is lovely now, I can go out and walk and my mood is so much better.0

The big-item (furniture & equipment) set-up is complete. I now have a 'work-from-home' station and a 'home-computer & test-study' station set up to my liking. (once i get my language requalification tests out of the way ... the test-study portion will morph into 'crafting-corner' - mostly sewing. )
Now for the systematic decluttering of what's hiding behind closet doors / on bookshelves in there - and gradually expanding outwards to the rest of the house.
Outside work-hours ... when not reviewing for French test (and NOT INSTEAD OF reviewing for French test!!!!)2 -
My first language is Dutch, but as I lived and worked in UK for most of my life, I consider myself more of an Anglophone. My kids are pure British. I studied French and have lived in France for 10+ years, so I am pretty fluent. I had a German grandmother and manage that one OK. I certainly read German quite easily and was made to teach it in UK. I had a job in Spain for a few months and had to learn Spanish because the people I had to work with spoke nothing else. I had to work on my Italian because I studied Art History and did a lot of work on Renaissance art, in Italy and in libraries. I had planned on doing a month of studies in Italy in June, but Covid-19 put an end to that. I worked in China for a few years and studied Mandarin, but most of that has gone, because I haven't used it and it's such a difficult language to learn for a European. I also worked in a country in the Pacific Ocean and got quite good at the local language, but like my Mandarin, it's mostly gone. I speak and understand a smattering of Turkish because I worked with loads of Turkish students in North London and had a few holidays there. I had to do Latin, Greek and Hebrew at school. Basically, I love languages and hate not to be able to understand and make myself understood!8 -
@Chinkiri, I am in awe, seriously! I never had the ear for a second language...I tried studying French in University, and although I had the grammar part down, the hearing it and conversing in it was next to impossible for me. Thankfully it was just going to be a minor!2

@wishfuljune Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check this out.1

What does one DO in a barre class? something like ballet fundamentals? not even CLOSE to the idea of ballet fundamentals?
(a link to a typical youtube sample will do)
If one doesn't have a barre in the house already, what works for a substitute? (no matter what the actual exercise moves are)

Check out Coach Kel on YouTube. I normally take Barre classes at a Pilates Studio, but with the Studio being closed for now, I like Coach Kel. I'm sure there are other great videos of other instructors on YouTube, just haven't searched much.
You could get by temporarily using the back of a sturdy chair. I have a wall mounted Barre in my exercise room, and also just made a portable one out of PVC pipe. Not fancy looking, but it works! Of course, Amazon sells portable ones, too.
Let me know what you think of Coach Kel.
Pilates and Barre are my favorite indoor exercises. Yoga also.

Another Monday another 7 days to be focused on my goals, I believe our gym is opening but not sure if I want to rush back immediately. A training session tonight one must attend to know the COVID process for cleaning and probably people allowed in at one time. I have been able to develop my own stuff and now not so sure.... what are those of you who belong to gyms thinking of doing? At this point I think I will go to the informational meeting and since I am really close I can see how many cars are there and make my own time to go. Good luck in all you do this week be safe stay well wash your hands please wear your mask🙂4

I will check out Coach Kel. I am 61, spend even MORE time just sitting in front on a computer (now that I am working from home) than I did in an office setting, and have found myself getting stiff. Now that I have switched to recumbent bike for my short (but far more calories burned per miniute) 20 minutes required ... I am looking into other range-of-motion options too.
Is there a pilates YouTube leader you (or anyone) find they like?0 -

Not a regular gym user and never have been - so can't comment on the rest .... but the informational session would at least give you some ideas on how to weigh options .... though wear your mask to it!!
Keep in mind that deeper / heavier breathing (and I am including singing as well as gym work-outs) will put more "potentials" into the atmosphere with more velocity and greater distance, and it only takes one person who doesn't even realize they are "carrying" to spread to many in that situation. So 6 ft / 2 meters isn't NEARLY going to be socially distanced enough. As well as shared equipment.3 -
This weekend, I went through my "mending pile" and sorted what needs a stitch-or-two from things that I might conceivably ATTEMPT to alter to fit my now-on-maintenance body - some of those WERE set aside as too small at one point, but are now TOO BIG ...
First- was ruthless about "colour or style no longer suits who I am now" (straight to the "donate when they are collecting again" pile)
- actually tried the remainder on - if items were pants / capris and too big for NOW - straight to donate pile (too hard for my sewing skills to alter)
- set three tops (too big for me, though I still love the colours) aside that my mom might like to adopt (eventually)
- put multiple other tops in donate pile as "WHY am I going to try to even guess how to alter?!?" WHY NOT START FRESH???" (sewing from altered-before-cutting-fabric relatively basic patterns is closer to my sewing ability - altering pre-made garments (even simply made ones) ain't that easy
Once I put the few stitches in each of the "truly need minor mending" pile, I will do the same sort-down and put a high proportion of them into the "donate when they are collecting again pile". They are good quality with plenty of wear in them - someone not-so-far into their journey will be able to feel very pleased at the finds - I know I did under similar circumstances as my wardrobe sizes evolved.
As I type this I am thinking .... maybe ..... sneak two of those tops destined for mom back out and turn them into sleeveless shells? THAT would be within my alteration skill-level .... at least worth giving further thought to ....3 -

I got rid of every piece of "big" clothing I own. I was afraid if it hung around, I might see I have something to go back to, if I should gain a little. I also have been finding the old styles no longer fit the new me too. It has been nice sprucing up my clothes with new pieces.

@SuziQ113 if I can't EASILY make it fit me now, it isn't staying ... I AM also checking the online catalogue of this collection, to see what they are offering right now and if any of the current colors appeal.
but I got these tops less than 18 months ago, and if they DID fit (if I happened on the same thing but the right size in a quality-label consignment shop for instance), the colours of these scoop-neck "3/4 sleeve T-style" jersey knit tops would suit the current me .... but the prints any particular company uses changes from year to year. They might now be using a completely different "colour pallet" in their current collection.
And over 98% ARE on their way out the door with no second thoughts and no regrets. The other 5 or so keeper items only need tiny tucks in the arm-pit seams or a cuff turned at the end of a too-long sleeve.

@HASWLRS what part of Ontario are you in? "The Golden Horseshoe" will be staying in Level 1 longer, but outside of there Level 2 is supposed to be starting on Friday (hair salons will open; restaurants (patios only and well-spread tables); gatherings of ~10 instead of no-more-than-5 )
I know from last month that you are waiting on the hair salons to re-open with keys in hand and finger poised over the auto-dial ....2 -
After attending the informational gym meeting I feel a bit more comfortable and opening may not be until some time next week which is ok. Several new cleaning products available, self thermo scanning when entering contact data required. Deep cleaning on regular basis no showers and only a couple of bathrooms available that’s ok I live close by. Our gym is not big but it does not alleviate us from risks I do hope that others follow the protocol as it is a unstaffed facility most of the time guess that’s where we need to encourage others to be respectful and I should add we are a older group of gym users average age is probably 45-50 but that doesn’t mean all are respectful. Think I will still observe busy times and then decide when and if I will go.2

@BMcC9, I am in Tillsonburg, so outside of the GTA, but close enough when need be. (We can get to Pearson International in 90 minutes with no traffic). My husband actually needs a haircut more than I do, but I am definitely in need of a cut and colour! I must say, now that things are starting to open up, I am a bit anxious, even though the number of virus cases around here has been relatively low. One of the casualties of this opening is my women's only gym. The owner has decided to close, rather than try to work within the new guidelines. Even though I haven't been in over a year, I am still a little sad. Yes, there are co-ed gyms in town, but I will wait on making any sort of decision.1

SORRY, if I OFFENDED you. I believe I stated I would have a problem keeping my larger clothes around.
I know it's a great feeling to be able to pack and donate our larger clothing. I made another 2 bag donation to the Salvation Army.
Hopefully the alterations are easy for you so you can still enjoy the collection.
Take care.0 -
I’ve got to go through my closets, too, once I can get back into them. Vent is in the spoiler. We still have no flooring and movable items have been stashed in all not-being-floored areas of our “home” as five weeks ago they ordered our flooring and were FINALLY able to reach someone by phone Last Thursday. He said our flooring had come in the previous day and would call us Friday to schedule the installation for this week, then went radio silence on us again. Voicemail is full, they don’t pick up and finally my husband reached their corporate office today. Apparently, they can’t reach the guy, either and stated this is totally unacceptable. Ya think? 🙄🤬
I’m starting to feel less anxiety and more depression.
Half the dining and kitchen floors came up on February 18, which means my soap room is full of my home office, so I have not been able to work my small business since then. We have had our second bathroom unusable since March 3. The commode has been on the front porch for over three months. It’s quite Jeff Foxworthy-esque... you might be a redneck...
On the work-front, I believe I am going to lose right at half my department due to layoffs by Thursday, which gives me exactly one day to come up with the new schedule that rolls out on Sunday. I’m heartbroken because every single one of my team is family to me. I love them all. 💔😢
I don’t say much at home anymore because I’m sure DH is tired of hearing me cry about my now-permanently-changed job duties. Today I had to cover dispatch while transporting at the same time. Can you imagine, moving a bed with a patient in it, and having to stop and answer the phone, write down the Information on paper to put into the computer as soon as I’m done with the current transport? I’m going to have to resign from my extra duty as the coordinator for the Transfer Mobility Coach team because I won’t have time to train new hires or coordinate the activities, now that I’m no longer flying a desk. 😢
Our covid positive patients hit an all time high today.
I miss going out to eat. I miss our old way of life. I miss hugging so much. I hate we are never going back to what it used to be. I am tired of crying at the drop of a hat. I sing in the hospital choir at Christmas to carol for the patients, but I don’t see that happening this year.
I hate wearing a mask for 8 hours a day. Think about how it would feel to do a light jog with a paper mask on. That’s what it feels like to move beds across the facility masked. Figure the bed weighs about 200 pounds, and our bariatric patients run between 300-500 pounds. They wonder why we don’t make conversation and we explain that we are doing well just to breathe. My husband complained that he had to wear one at the doctor’s office yesterday. I really just wanted to clobber him for bitching about wearing a mask for a whopping 30 minutes while sitting still. 🙄🤬
Forgive me for venting here. My therapist had to move my appointment back a few weeks, so I’m overdue. I cancelled my hair appointment last week because my gal is immune compromised and I was exposed the week before. I get to go in July, assuming I don’t get exposed again, lol...not that it matters, it’s all stuffed in a bonnet at work, anyway. 😂
On the bright side, I am still gainfully employed, have my benefits and am not sitting at home stewing about what is going on in the world outside of my front door or worrying how I’m going to meet the bills. I’m also a few days shy of two weeks from the exposure and have not developed any symptoms. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Oh! And I have lost a couple pounds since I started moving patients.

@SuziQ113 - not at all offended!! I am actually quite proud that I am passing on so much of last summer's wardrobe, and that things that were still too small last year are too big this year. I won't be attempting what I know is actually beyond my sewing ability (which means pretty much everything that isn't sooo big that I could use it a yardage to cut a different much smaller item out of) I was just sighing over these favourite colours in these prints. As I moved down sizes, I would always donate too-big "interim" sizes and replace with others from the thrift store, knowing that they would also eventually be "too big before I was done" and donated back again. (I know where to find the resale stores that would get donations from more affluent neighborhoods, and could get high end labels I couldn't otherwise afford)
I am actually in a place that I haven't been for a long time ... looking more in the "new-off-the-rack" catalogues knowing that these will be long-term investments. and deciding what suits current-me long term lifestyle as well as my current new silhouette.3 -
So much unhelpful advice out there about health and nutrition I honestly have a hard time figuring out what is real and what is someone’s ‘personal philosophy’ or some such nonsense. I’m very fact, logic driven person and I just can’t make sense of all the hocus-pocus and snake oil out there. So this is what’s on my mind today. Just going to pull out some books with nutritional facts about food and go with that to create balance!5
