The August Walk Challenge is starting in a day or so, which means now is the time to be thinking about our new monthly challenge goals!
This group is open to any and all walkers. Many of us use Leslie Sansone as well as other favorite instructor's walking or workout DVDs, as well as those great walks or hikes outside on the trails or pathways that are available to us, or a walk in our neighborhood, or on the treadmill. All of these many options count toward our miles, steps, or minutes.
However you get your walk in, come on in and join us! Whenever you are posting what you have accomplished please remember to also share any strength training or other types of workouts that you are doing. We all benefit greatly by learning from one another and getting new ideas.
The goal that you choose is your own personal goal for this month ππ .
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you!
If you find this group in the middle of the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you hope to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. It is never too late to join in , you are always welcome!
Let's tie up our shoes and get some water, and start walking strong and determined this month.
Don't forget the extra hydration we need during this hot summer month :drinker: .

August Goals
96 Miles tracked
Apple Watch Challenge: Do 11 workouts of at least 15 minutes.
I missed July's goal by only a few miles and like 1,000 calories. π€·πΌββοΈ I blame the heatwave. π
I plan on order up some DVDs from the Library this week to change up the routine and hopefully help my motivation.

I will do a mix of activities such as gardening, walking outside, Leslie walks on the rebounder, for example, to see what will work best this month.
August 1: 45 minutes yard/ garden, 30 minute outside walk
August 2: Rest Day!

New here. Just got the Walk at Home subscription. Just wondering where to start. I was a walker from a few years ago but just starting again3
-
@missytrishy, Welcome! Glad that you are here.
A good place to start would be to read this month's welcome letter on at the beginning of this month.
Then, since you were a walker before you are most likely familiar with Leslie's walks. Start with either a familiar walk or do tomorrows scheduled walk.
Do as much as you are able or want to. And then each day after do it again. If you haven't done much exercise lately pace yourself so that you don't injure yourself.
If you are wanting to join in on our monthly walk challenge pick a goal such as walk for so many minutes or miles each day, or to walk each day what you can as your building your endurance back up. It is your own personal goal as the welcome letter said. make it work for you! Then come back here and post what you have done and join in the conversations if you'd like.
Hope to see you soon!

@missytrishy at first when I started with leslie I'd commit to 1 mile a day. Some days I would do more but many days emotionally or physically walking and moving with her for 20 minutes was all my brain could commit to.
Even now sometimes I'm lacing up my shoes to go outside and I commit to that alone and then return home 7 miles later. Other times I head out with a cup of coffee and amble slowly for 30 minutes and get home sooner than expected. But the walking gets easier and some days I look forward to long or fast walks so I choose those now.
But don't overwhelm yourself upfront! Just commit to 1 mile a day and do extra when you feel it β€1 -
Out and about on a fast walk for several hours this morning (thank goodness for great audiobooks that make you wanna keep going!) and rocked 16k steps. Probably going to hit 20k today as I've got some cleaning to do so I'll be up and down the stairs and all around the house with my vacuum but I'm sitting down to rest for a bit, hydrate, get some calories in and reward myself with some tv and couch time. Walk strong today everyone!2

Welcome. I just started here during the pandemic. It has helped to keep me active and healthy. Leslies daily walks are sometimes a bit much for me, so I generally do my favorites over and over. I found them by trial and error and recommendations from the group. So, Iβll recommend- Tone every zone, 3 miles Pilates inspired, and 3 fast miles.
Have fun!1 -

Planned a walk with a buddy this morning but her plans fell through. Aw shucks, more time (to finish?) this audiobook?! Sign me up. Headed out into the BEST temperatures ever for walking-- no more high humidity 80 degree morning walks. LOVE THE FALL! I know, I know its August, but if I could bottle up these temperatures and live this way year round I would. Not too hot, not snowy or rainy, just clear skies and mild temperatures!2

Too bad you had to go on with your audiobook. NOT! Isn't it wonderful when the humidity eases?!0 -

@mypinkbikini, audiobooks always make a great walking partner! I've been known to listen to one when I've had no ambition to do exercise while using a Leslie Walk π€£. I either turn her voice waaaay down or use the music only feature if available. It's amazing how fast a 4 or 5 mile DVD finished πββοΈ.
@AnnofB, gardening is always a good way to get movement/ exercise in πΈπ!
@bacpath, you always have such a wide variety of exercise! Yay for hiking on the coast!

3.7 mile family trail walk on the water this morning but they were quick miles so I was pretty pleased with it. I might do a short hiit leslie walk indoors this evening to round out my 10k steps since I'm eating pretty indulgently with ice cream, wine and tasty meats all week and went out to eat today! Hope everyone has a happy active Saturday!2
