@bacpath, you wrote "Getting old is not for the faint of heart. I am only half joking about this😏." Very true, I agree with you.

And you also wrote: "That since age 6I I always have a muscle or joint that acts up. All this year I have had severe metatarsalgia in my left foot. It goes away with rest...."

I just read what the Mayo Clinic wrote about the condition..." It certainly sounds like it is painful! Please take care of your foot and yourself. I am so proud of you for discovering different forms of exercise. You are encouraging and also giving me ideas when I read your daily log of exercises. Hugs.

@mypinkbikini, you wrote: "I'm 40 with some serious toe pain the last two days at the end of my walks. I get shoulder and back pain from time to time...."

It does not matter the age, pain and injuries are not something to ignore or to think that they can not happen because we are not as old as the next person. I am very sorry that you are missing your monthly professional massages. The pandemic certainly is changing our lives in ways that are unexpected as time goes on. Take care, and I do hope that your serious toe pain subsides quickly. Toe pain certainly does affect our over all health and abilities to walk or exercise!

Great story about your adventurous walk in 95% humidity 😣 after the mozzarella cheese outburst! What a walking adventure you had! Glad that it all turned out good in the end, and that after it ended you enjoyed lots of ice cream and water while resting!

@Deeder522, yay for you for being able to go into the library to get a DVD. Keep up with whatever you can manage to fit in as far as your exercise, it is all good! Rest as much as you need to in the meantime. Having even a "small issue" with your pinky toe on your right foot can affect your whole body. Even the smallest of our toes can surprisingly affect us in a big way.

Back in my early 20s someone accidentally stepped on my foot at work and fractured my pinky toe. That tiny toe was incredibly painful, no joke! I learned then how even the tiniest bone or part of our foot can affect everything including how well we can move about, or not. Keep up doing what you can in the meantime! Hugs.

@AnnofB, you wrote: "I'll be 65 this year. Parts don't work as well at times and the will to do it can lapse... but that good feeling after a workout is still a draw.

It is so true that the older we get that things do not work as well as they used to do at an earlier age. I find that my 'want to', or 'the will to do' my exercise, amid pain or other difficulties can be a huge hurdle to get over. But yes! The positive effects of the workout or activity do make it all worthwhile at the end. But it is definitely not easy. You are doing so great getting back into your exercise after your health issues! Well done! You go girl!!

I most certainly comprehend what you all wrote about that each of you is going through health and age wise even though each of our experiences are different, yet in some way, they are similar in how they affect us. Each one of you have my compassion and understanding, and I am cheering you, and each of us in this walking group, on to never give up as long as we can exercise even a little bit, or in a modified way, or still get around. And to especially, somehow, also overcome the very real emotional hurdles that can come at us unexpectedly because of our health or age issues too. I was most surprised at how the pain and difficulties in moving or exercising affected me emotionally.

I am turning 70 in less than a month, and truth be told, I never expected this particular set back that I have been experiencing the last eight months. Finding out in the most painful way that I have osteoarthritis in my left ankle, and it sure seems (and looks) to be in my right one also. Learning that was the probable cause of my excruciating pain that suddenly came upon me that I could hardly walk and forced me to go to the doctor 😲. So I'm right there with you in our quest to keep on with our exercise and walking. We can do this, especially as we encourage one another.

I am going to do a variety of activities or exercise this month and see how it goes πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘Ÿ

August 1: 30 minute outside walk, 45 minutes yard/ garden,

    August 2: Rest Day!
August 3: 30 minutes outside walk, 75 minutes yard/ garden
August 4: 1 1/2 hours indoors cleaning, 30 minutes yard pickup after the rain/wind
August 5: 30 minutes outside walk, 45 minutes yard/ garden, 60 minutes errands etc
August 6: 3 hours yard/ garden, doing one thing... then saw something else to do... and then... πŸ’
August 7: 2 miles Brisk Walk, (WAP Express Series) using rebounder,1 1/2 hours yard/garden
    August 8: 2 hours yard/garden

    August 9: Rest Day!
    August 10: 2 hours yard/ garden
    August 11: another 2 hours yard/ garden
August 12: 30 minutes easy garden, pretty much dragging all day.
August 13: 1 1/2 hours walking portion of grocery shop, 30 minutes easy garden

    Have another happy weekend πŸ˜„,

@texasgardnr did you ever break or otherwise seriously injure that ankle at any time that might have led to a diagnosis of the osteoarthritis there or is it something that crept up from overuse or outta nowhere?

I find this group to be an important part of my motivation to get out there some days, the encouragement and the act of accountability for the exercise are both key motivation tools for me some days. Thank you to you for taking so much time in your Last message to acknowledge us however trivial those aches and (Emotional) pains may seem and also for uplifting each and everyone of us to keep moving.

    Happy Saturday everyone πŸ’

5 out of the last 6 days my husband has joined me for my evening 1 Mile. This is HUGE b/c just a few years ago there wouldn't have been any way for him to do so without being in crazy amounts of pain. Even at the start of Summer, he could only manage 1/2 a mile. Now that he's Gluten-Free the amount of pain has decreased across his entire body. Tonight, I'll walk alone as he mowed the front yard.

I love popping in here and see how you all are doing on your goals. Even if you don't see me comment I'm checking in on all of you!

Hi Walker Friends...hope it's okay to post this here. I haven't been walking or strength training for a few days. My dog passed away suddenly on Friday and I'm too heartbroken to do much except get one foot in front of the other to do necessary things. She was my entire world and I'm absolutely devastated. :heartbreak:

I hope to get back to walking today - a mile maybe with an audiobook or music to keep myself distracted. My dog always watched me or napped in the same room as I did the Leslie walks, so I'm just not ready to do that yet.

@mypinkbikini, You are welcome. To answer your question, I seriously fractured my other ankle in my early 20s when I slipped on some unseen ice, resulting in several casts and two surgeries and many months off work. I'm guessing that I probably favored my right ankle after that and used my left as my lead and stronger ankle. I'm now having to be careful not to lead with the left one, so now my right one is starting hurting. I definitely was never the athletic one to have overused anything 😲. I've had minor aches and pains in my feet and ankles for a good while, but attributed that to getting older or that shoes needed replacing. So other than that it was a surprise.

@bacpath, thank you for your kind words 🌸.

@Deeder522, that is so awesome about your husband! You took a great walk πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ!

@VeggieGirlforLife, I'm really sad for you about the passing of your precious dog. Thank you for sharing that with us. I had noticed that you were absent, as you are here all the time. Sending hugs πŸ’–.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. They are family, aren't they?

Very good idea to switch things up with an audiobook or music.

To @Deeder522, @bacpath, @mypinkbikini, @texasgardnr, and @AnnofB, I want to thank you all for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. It means a lot to me. I have really been lacking motivation to exercise, though I know I need to take care of myself.

To all of you dealing with health issues, setbacks due to injuries and age, I feel for you! Hang in there, stay the course, but don't overdo. I have hurt myself worse before by pushing, so take care.

Hope to walk with you all again soon.

Thanks @AnnofB and @mypinkbikini. I use really good walking and other shoes. The podiatrist approved them. He sold me inserts that did work really well to adjust my gait to take that initial pain spot away so I could walk. My pain moves around my ankle and sometimes even leaves me for awhile. I just have to learn what hurts and what helps for now because pain can come at me suddenly. So I'm learning about osteoarthritis and flare ups and what I can do to help myself. I'm adjusting my activity all the time and at the same time challenging myself to keep going.

@VeggieGirlforLife Hugs to you. Do take care of yourself and come back and walk with us when you can. Start out slowly. We will be here for you.

Yesterday I accidentally knocked it out of the park. 5 FAST miles to finish up an audiobook that needed returning to the library, then a mile or so with my pup whose heart hurt because I did the first 5 without him, then I sat on my porch and had lunch until a text came from a friend who is moving out of state soon asking me to walk with her. So 4 hours later I was lacing up those shoes for a friendly walk and talk and we ended up doing another 6.5 miles. I think I walked a divided half marathon in total yesterday LOL!

That was after almost a week of less than 10k steps though just getting my average 5-7k a day at work but focusing on moving most hours (Except for 1 day where I really slacked). So what will today bring? For now, coffee and a little reality tv because it looks stormy out there. Possibly a change of outfits and a walk with Leslie. If it looks like its clearing up mid morning and not too soggy outdoors I may do an outdoor walk but I'm pretty sure I'm going to do a fun 5k or so with Leslie, maybe a hiit walk with that dude she has etc.

Whatever won't make my legs fall off today after yesterday's antics!

The sun is setting faster and faster with each day so last night the hubby and I only managed 1 lap around the farm.
This morning I had to be up extra early for a client so after they left I drove down the township park and did a 1-mile lap on the paved trail there.
    Now for some caffeine, please.

This has been the craziest month for us!! Technically, I retired yesterday (the last day of the summer semester) and we put our house on the market on Sunday. Can I just say, trying to live in a house that is for sale is annoying!!!! We have an offer on it so that is the good news. I have been busy purging, cleaning and packing and got way off my workout schedule! When I have the time, I do not have the energy and when I have the energy, I do not have the time. I suspect, until we are completely moved, this will be the norm for me. I know, first world problems right?

@missytrishy -Welcome and start slow and success will help with motivation.

@AnnofB -Oh Ann, I am so happy to hear your MD said you could work out again! What a relief! At our age, the less we see of MDs the better!

@bacpath -I loved reading your RANT!!! I am 67 and so far, have not really experienced physical work out issues, but motivation is a HUGE problem. When I was losing all the weight in the my early 60s, the motivation was getting off another pound, but I find maintaining weight to be far less motivating. Like you, I am trying to remind myslef that my heart, lungs and muscle structure need it, but .... well .... some days I just tell them to deal!!!

@mypinkbikini -walking in 95% humidity gets my admiration for sure!!!! I hug my air conditioner when the humidity gets over 60%!! You are a trooper! :+1:

@texasgardnr -I am so sorry about the osteoarthritis Mary. My husband has this in his knees and it is very painful some days. He has exercises and pain meds, but there are days when neither if these is enough. For him, the stairs are the worst, so I have been carrying things up and down to keep some of the pressure off his knees.

@Deeder522 -I am so happy to hear that the gluten free diet relieved the pain your husband was having. Changing a diet is so much better than being on pain meds all the time. Kudos to him!

@VeggieGirlforLife -I am so sorry about the loss of your girl! My heart goes out to you. Do not worry about motivation as you are in the grieving process and that takes all the mental and emotional space we have. People often do not realize that we grieve for our pets the same way we grieve for any loss. Be kind to yourself. :heartbreak:

I am going to try to walk 1/2 hour each day and post here because I miss knowing what is going on with all of you. I feel guilty when I don't check in.

    Walk Strong Everyone!

Over 10k steps today- some walking/light aerobics with Leslie, some cleaning which made my house look and smell pretty!, and some trips to the kitchen for snacks and water throughout the day. It was a light day, all the steps were indoors, and I'm hoping when I wake in the morning I can get outside for a good long walk if its not raining but the storm clouds are threatening to hang out all weekend long!

For tonight, there's beer, tacos and leftover chocolate dessert so I'll be eating out every calorie I burned (and then some!). But that's okay cause its FRIDAY

    Have a great weekend everyone.

@zichab So glad to hear from you again. I wondered how things were going for you. I wouldn't be surprised if you got multiple offers on the house based on how crazy the market is right now. πŸ₯‚ on retirement!

The gluten-Free lifestyle is shaping up better in our house. Hubby slipped up a couple of times and I've had to catch him a few other times. Mostly he doesn't really miss it, it's more of a surprise of where gluten is hidden in our foods. I've traveled to at least 5 different stores now looking for options for replacements. The house is almost fully cleaned out gluten items with the exception of a few things for myself and our son.

I'm glad I got my walk, in yesterday morning b/c I dragged the rest of the day and even took a 15min nap while watching the evening news.

Took a very slow 6 miles this morning, with some shoulder pain and aches so I knew to just go easy, enjoying an audiobook. It was really more of an extended stroll because the weather was perfect- overcast and fresh rain smells with a cool breeze. Now I'm sitting down to pancakes and eggs pushing myself to rehydrate with water. Happy walking.
