WELCOME to all walkers!

The September Walk Challenge starts soon, so now is the time to be thinking about our new monthly challenge goals!

Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player continues to be a great alternative to walking outdoors, which for some of us may still feel a lot like summer B) . For those who will be soon enjoying the onset of cooler weather, walking or hiking outdoors might very well be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs, especially for those who enjoy getting their miles or minutes outdoors, and have the opportunity to do so, as we move closer to the wonderful sights, scents, tastes... and of course the amazing colors, of Autumn.

This group is open to any and all walkers πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ however you get your walk in. There may be times when walking is not always an option for a number of reasons, so feel free to substitute other forms of exercise when needed, or for a change in routine.
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this month's walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you, as you in turn will inspire others! So come on in and join us!

Whenever you are posting what you have accomplished please remember to also share any strength training or other types of workouts that you are doing. We all benefit greatly by learning from one another and getting new ideas.

The goal that you choose is your own personal goal for this month πŸ’ͺπŸ‘Ÿ , so change it up however you would like to.

If you find this group in the middle of the month it truly doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you hope to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. It is never too late to join in :) , you are always welcome!

Let's tie up our shoes and get some water, and start walking with a smile πŸ˜… this month.

Together, we can do this,

Can't wait to walk again with everyone soon. In the meantime, strength training, yoga videos and swimming will be my workout of choice on days off and I'm going to work on eating mindfully and observing weight maintenance this month more than worrying about losses.

My big goal is to be well enough for 1 hike by the end of the month!

@mypinkbikini in the meantime, please come join us this month even if you aren't actually "walking" currently, and post whatever you do, as well as your progress, so that we can cheer one another on. I like your overall plan, especially your Big Goal that you have made!

I hope that you can join in again this month 🌼 .

I have been thinking hard about my September goals. It’s a little difficult with the foot issue. I have noticed my resting heart rate going up ( mostly I exercise for the cardiovascular benefits so this is a bit worrisome) 3 pound weight gain, and a complete free for all on carbs in August. A little bit vacation, a little bit low-level Covid anxiety, a little bit drop in exercise etc. So, in the spirit of using electronics and my Fitbit more, I declare September APP MONTH.

    GOALS DAILY
Track food in MFP. Especially watch carbs.
Move every hour per the Fitbit alarm. Gently
Sprint At least once daily. 30 seconds x 4.
    GOALS MONTHLY
Decrease resting heart rate to less than 65
    150 miles

Ambitious, yes, but it’s fun trying.😘
  • Good morning! I have an entire collection of Leslie Sansone DVD's and I really need to use them! I am trying to set some September weight loss goals for myself and I thought this would be a great place to start. I'm determined to walk at least 43 miles this month, using 1, 2 & 3 mile DVD's for the week. Please wish me luck, I could use some motivation.

    September Goals

    85 Miles tracked
Apple Watch Challenge 400 Exercise minutes this month.

September is forecasted to be a bit cooler than normal so I'm backing off my miles a little bit.
I need to get back to doing some strength training too as well as the food logging.

@WaffleCrumbs2pointO Welcome to the group! 43 miles is a great starting point especially with all of Leslie's collection. Can't wait to read about your progress.

Thank you for having this group! I’ll be 57 in September and would sure like to walk off some weight and not get so winded with every darn walk. I took my dogs on a walk today. Only .75 mile and we were all exhausted afterward! Would love to be able to walk them once a day (one of them is quite pudgy like me) and do a Leslie Sansome video one time a day. Appreciate you being here!

Hi carolejaye1217- Welcome. You came to the right place for support. You can get fit with Leslie's workouts. Just start out slow and work your way up. Glad you joined us. :)

    Hi Walking Friends!

Since I haven't exercised much the past two weeks, I'm reducing my goals a bit for this month. I did some strength training Saturday and I was sore for the next two days! It's amazing how not keeping up with this has affected my muscles. I'm also going to add in exercise with my recumbent bike because it uses different muscles and I need to change up my routines.

So with all that, I'm setting a monthly goal for 90 miles of purposeful walking for exercise. Plus 6 days of strength per week or using the bike. I will allow myself rest days, too, if I need them. Which some of you might know is unheard of for me.

Sept. 1: 3 Miles iWalk Strong + 30 minutes recumbent bike + 10 min HASfit strength legs workout

Glad to see you back, Lani.

It's maddening how quickly the gains we make in strength regress when we aren't able to workout. I smiled when I read "I will allow myself rest days, too, if I need them." :) I will believe it when I see it, ha-ha.

@carolejaye1217 welcome to the September walk challenge! We are glad that you and your fur babies are walking with us this month!

    @bacpath excellent goals for September!!

Welcome @WaffleCrumbs2pointO . It will be fun to see which LS DVDs you will choose. We are happy that you are joining us for September!

@Deeder522 Apple Watch certainly can think up a fun variety of challenges for you!!

@AnnofB that is a good plan that you have chosen!

@VeggieGirlforLife that's a well thought out plan, especially how, like you mentioned, it definitely will change up your routines. I'm right there with Ann concerning your rest days. You got to show us now πŸ€£πŸ™„ .

I'm gonna keep my August goal again for September: I am going to do a variety of activities or exercise this month, however, I want to try to change them up a little more when I am able. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘Ÿ .

September 1: 2 hours walking or standing portions of appointments and errands, along with some extra grocery shopping because I was there anyway.

First 2 miles of the month! Got up this morning after 9 days without a walk and did 2 "fast" miles with Leslie. There were a few times my toes started to hurt so I cut off her combos and just did the walk portion. I may do a chair workout and some yoga a little later this morning once I pop a load of laundry in. The real test is going to be easing back into this week of walking and overdoing it-- too many days, too many miles. My goal is to get back into the walking regularly without pain and work my way back up slowly.

    Happy September!

Okay ladies! @AnnofB and @texasgardnr I hear you and I will try! I know rest is important. I'm planning a bathroom remodel now which will be a good distraction for my grief and will also keep me busy when I'm not at work. I may not have time to get mileage in every day. We shall see!

@AnnofB oh, Ann, modifying is really hard when we are used to working those miles or workouts. I understand..... Hugs 🌼

@VeggieGirlforLife planning a bathroom remodel will certainly be a distraction as well as uplift your spirits as you see beautiful things happening in your bathroom! Are you going to be doing the actual work or contracting it out? Just curious, because either way it's a great thing to be happening for you!!
Your miles/ exercises are amazing this week!! Good for you πŸ’ͺ .

Thanks guys, I'm taking today off from walking and hoping to swim or stretch(or both) this afternoon. Had a little insomnia last night... funny how waking up early should make me insanely productive with an extra 4 hours in my day but instead makes me extra depleted and thinking of lord, I've eaten 2 full meals plus a half pot of coffee before 11am

Definitely going to need to gently move my body to kill some hours in a healthy way today
