Today's Topic: Daily Good Health Guidelines

Back in the day, WW championed the Good Health Guidelines (GHGs):
  • Water
  • Fruits and Veggies
  • Lean Protein
  • Low/Non-fat Dairy
  • Multivitamin
  • Healthy Oils
  • Activity

Are these practices a part of your life? If so, how closely do you follow them? How do they help you? Or, do you find them unimportant? Do you have a different approach to your journey?

I actually do try and get these in on a daily basis. Do I get them in everyday ? No but then some are co-mingled with the foods I eat example healthy oil in a salad dressing. I don't necessarily get this one in on every salad because I use non fat dressings most of the time. The rest I strive to get them in daily.
Exercise currently has been the culprit to get back in the grove. This is just a matter of doing it. At least walking and doing some light hand dumbbells.

I moniter these through the MFP app and a medication app and a simple plate app. Nothing perfect about it by any means but I usually pull up the nutrients part of the MFP and keep a check on them.

I have always liked the GHG concept and model. I find it pretty valuable, in that, if I focus on my GHGs, staying on program and losing weight is a no brainer - right up there with tracking. I don't take a multivitamin, but I do take supplements for some things for which I have a deficiency (e.g., Vitamin D).

I answered this. Wonder where it’s posted.

    Good grief.

Water has never been an issue. I started exercise when I first started weight loss long before WW. Don’t feel right when I miss.

Dairy, I get some but wouldn’t meet the WW guidelines. Don’t take a vitamin. The lean protein, fruit and veggies got started when I joined WW. But not because of the guidelines. It’s how I got enough to eat within my points.

The recent change is regularly eating olive oil. Started because it’s near the top of the anti inflammation list. Started eatin avocado for the same reason.

Water - I drink a ton of water, tea, 1/2 strength crystal lite. Exceed the recommended.

Fruits and Veggies - plenty of these as well. I use veggies to bulk up my meal and I have a couple fruits a day.

Lean Protein - the majority of our meals are chicken & seafood. Some 95/5 ground beef and an occasional steak.

Low/Non-fat Dairy - I eat some ff yogurt for bfast, but mostly as a condiment in place of sour cream. Very little milk. I could do better in this area.

    Multivitamin - every day

Healthy Oils - I always cook with a little evoo, so get a couple a day.

Activity - much better in this area since I established a checklist that included exercise (11 weeks ago). And I feel much better!

Are these practices a part of your life?
    All but dairy.
If so, how closely do you follow them? I'm pretty consistent. It's just part of my routine.
How do they help you? I bought into the health benefits of the GHGs back in the day. Still do!

Do you have a different approach to your journey? Nope. I just try to eat healthy foods and take care of my aging body 🤣

Dairy not so much but not always necessary. I am not calcium deficient.

Water - mostly filtered through ground coffee, crystal light and diet tonic. No problem.
Fruits and Veggies - salad nearly daily as well as sides instead of potatoes or rice with meals. No problem.
Lean Protein - love me some chicken and ground turkey and pork chops. Not much of a beef eater at all. No problem.
Low/Non-fat Dairy - lots of it. In my coffee, in my cereal, in my desserts (0% fat plain Greek yogurt nearly daily mixed with either fruit or sf ff pudding). No problem.
Multivitamin - not a believer, so no. No problem.
Healthy Oils - I really don’t add oils or butter to much. An occasional spritz of veggie or olive oil on my veggies is about it. No problem.
Activity - LOLOLOL. Does falling out of bed every morning count? Not a believer in using activity instead of diet for weight loss. Yeah, I know the benefits but don’t have the desire or time to run anymore. No problem.

Water - Unfortunately I am in the group of people that just don't like water. I drink it when I am feeling dehyrdated, and definitely when I am working out in the yard and in the hot sun. I'm ok if I add flavor to it. I try to drink the recommended amount, but I find myself using the restroom WAY to much... almost every hour.

Fruits and Veggies - Love me some of both. Grilled, fresh, in a salad. I have started to try and grow some of my own - I have green onions this year. Next year I'll attempt to add tomatoes!

Lean Protein - Lots of chicken. But our family is so large, so it is hard to buy that much chicken. We find it easier and cheaper to buy ground beef in bulk, that freezes easily. When I grill (say hamburgers), I usually grill about 6 pounds for my family. This is also so I have leftovers for lunch.

Low/Non-fat Dairy - Not a milk drinker at all. Cheese is ok, but I don't go out of my way to get it.

    Multivitamin - One a Day

Activity - Not as active as I would like.

I loved the simplicity of the GHGs on the PointsPlus program, and because I was successful with that program, it's what I mostly revert to when I'm lin oss mode.

I probably don't get enough water, but what I get is mostly through black tea and flavored seltzer. I have a dairy allergy so mostly stay away from it. This summer, I likely over-did it with cherries, but generally don't eat a lot of fruit and need to increase my veggie consumption. I also need to get back yo mainly lean proteins. There's been a lot of ground beef, pork and lamb the past few months. I was on a meatball kick. I don't take a multi-witamin but do take a few supplements.
