We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Today's Topic: Food

Any helpful food finds? Anything that you didn’t even like before but is now regularly on your menu because it helps you stay on plan? Helpful swaps, like LF dairy for regular? Recipe modifications. Even frankenfoods. Anything helpful?

Egg beaters. This one had the added attraction of giving me the feeling I was gaming the system. So I started counting points. In the little book they gave us, egg beaters were 1 pt per 1/4 cup. Fine. But for some reason, using the pt calculation, I crunched the numbers for the Costco brand egg substitute we had and found I could get 1/2 cup for 1 pt. Think about it. Non stick pan, load up on veggies and 1 pt. Then I found the WW English Muffin, also 1 pt I think. If backed into a corner I could put SF jam on the muffin and have a passable dinner for 2 pts!

Modified ice cream. I’ve tried them all. Current favorite Breyer’s No Sugar Added. For a long time it was WW Fudge Bars that I knocked off the stick and ate with a spoon. It took longer that way. I can’t be on a diet if I’m eating ice cream every day.

I think of these as reframing from the tools for living-

Pizza. A WW English Muffin, some pizza sauce and some LF mozzarella. I don’t like NF cheese. Was that really pizza? No, of course not. But it was close enough that I could somehow fool my brain with it. I called it pizza, therefore it must be pizza.

A great after work snack- in the blender put crushed ice, a package of WW vanilla smoothie that they sold at the meetings, some fruit. A milkshake? No. But close enough that I started calling them shakes and not smoothies.

Any helpful food finds? Twinings cold brew teas are giving me some variety in beverages.
Ball park turkey hot dog (1💜) with Castleberrys hot dog chili sauce (0💜) on 1💜 bread makes for a low point meal.
Found a local source for ground turkey and use it in tons of things in place of beef.
Lots of mexican with beans, salsa and greek yogurt is so satisfying.

Anything that you didn’t even like before but is now regularly on your menu because it helps you stay on plan? Greek yogurt!

Frankenfoods:. I'm loving the carba-nada noodles, lower SP then regular, and lotus foods brown rice ramon (0💜). Awesome in lots of pasta dishes. Only ingredients are millet and brown rice, so kinda real food, just odd form.

Also found a recipe for chicken stroganoff that uses cottage cheese for the creaminess. It literally melts. So good!

Like @linmueller I sub ground chicken or turkey for beef. Great Italian style meatballs and something called Huge Turkey Meatball and from years past Mexican Meatloaf.
Also found I enjoy Brussels Sprouts, beets, plain Greek yogurt and a variety of sugar free products.

Somewhere I discovered pizza made on low point flatbreads or tortillas, along with a mixture of ff and rf cheeses for melting.

Breakfast is Plain Greek yogurt mixed with sf straw beer preserves and sometimes a 1/4 cup of granola most days.
    Snacks are often fruit.

Dessert is nearly nightly and sf Jello mixed with either Greek yogurt or rf milk. Yum.

    I. Need. This!

    Chicken Stroganoff

64 gm of brown rice pasta - cook according to directions.

1 chicken breast, sliced - season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, cook in large fry pan, lightly sprayed. Remove or move to edge of pan.

    Onion, sliced
    Mushrooms, sliced
    Spinach

Saute in pan starting with the onion, then mushrooms, last spinach to desired tenderness (I use a lot of veggies)

Add pasta and toss to mix

1/3 cup cottage cheese - add, mix until it melts on low heat.

This reheats well, so I always make a good size batch.

I've not too much on recipe variations in the recent past. In fact with spices my recipes are pretty boring. I have been mixing fat free plain greek yogurt with my oatmeal then adding blueberries either fresh or wild frozen blueberries as my breakfast. Also in the past year especially I have really watched my sodium intake. Steamed vegetables either microwave or stove top and limited fried. So we just haven't taken the time to experiment. We want to we just haven't.

@linmueller I just made your chicken stroganoff for dinner, it was delicous! I did deglaze the pan with a little bit of sherry after doing up the chicken just for a little something extra
