THE Holidays!....

@gewel321 I'm sorry your plans got messed up by covid! I remember one year when I was little that we had tacos for Thanksgiving. It was fun and memorable. You don't have to go all out if you don't want to.1

We decided to reschedule. It’s not about the day it’s about the family. My sister will be out of quarantine the Friday after so we are going to do it on Saturday. We may just have tacos on Thanksgiving Day!3

When I was 6 I had chicken pox over Thanksgiving....the next Thanksgiving I had measles!....no one in the family remembers this except me!...then I had our daughter the day before Thanksgiving and our granddaughter was born the day after Christmas!....our holidays are always screwed up plus no one but my husband and I like turkey, ham, cranberries or sweet potatoes!1

My husband surprised me yesterday night with tickets to go to Florida to visit the Harry Potter Christmas celebration at Universal Studios. We are going to week before Christmas so that we can still have Christmas with the family. So excited but this will throw the weight loss for a loop. I will do maintenance for that week.2

I decided to go to my parents' house tomorrow and stay through Sunday - the boredom and loneliness at my house is getting to be too much. And they have just had a fence put up around their backyard in hopes that it would make it possible for me to do multiple day visits with my dogs in tow, so I didn't want to disappoint them.
I'm a little anxious about being away from my bathroom scale and food scale for 4 days when I am absolutely not ready for a diet break. I'm still aiming for 1 pound per week loss through the end of the year and I don't want this to derail me. So I will be focusing on portion control, eyeballing calories as best I can, and maybe make a grocery store run when I first get there to pick up some of my favorite low cal staples. It will be a tricky balance sticking to my eating plan without offending my mom - she seems to almost take it personally when I eat things she doesn't enjoy and refuse her offer of alternate food, even when she's at my house. (Comments about how my protein shakes surely can't be filling, or making repeated offers to buy me restaurant breakfast when I already said I was making my own.)
Other than the food worries, I'm really looking forward to the visit. We always play board games together, go hiking, watch old home movies or look at photo albums, etc. and since I will be the only guest, the activities are my choice 😌4 -
Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!

@conniewilkins56 Thank you! The same to you and your family and everyone else in the group!2

So I am cooking a whole bunch of stuff. We are having turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce, corn, candied yams, brussel sprouts, stuffing for the main meal and deviled eggs, spinach dip, crab dip and bread bowl for appetizers. Apple pie, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream, cool whip or vanilla ice cream ( we have all three). And wine.
My plan is to not have breakfast or lunch but enjoy OMAD today.
I’m going to have turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, cranberry sauce and apple pie with whipped cream. And wine.
My plan is to eat slowly and enjoy it. The only leftovers I’m planning to have is turkey.
I think I’m going to just do a quick add for Thanksgiving at my total cal allotment for the day and be ok knowing it was over.
It’s one day. I’m not going to continue eating this way. I won’t weigh myself until Monday and all should be well.
I’ve had so much anxiety for today and feel like I have been putting so much pressure on myself. There is no need as long as I go back to normal eating tomorrow.
My niece is in college and recently lost her job. We have all agreed to send her home with all of the leftovers except some turkey so I can’t even be tempted.
Happy Thanksgiving y’all! I hope everyone can be at peace. 🥰😘

Happy thanksgiving to you all from me too!
I’m not counting today either and am splurging a little on breakfast by stopping at Hardee’s but I’m still being mindful by getting just an egg biscuit and a small hash rounds. I may not have lunch at all except for a banana and that’s because I’ve had Charlie horses lately which signal to me to get a little more potassium.
Otherwise I am being mindful with dinner with turkey, stuffing, roasted vegetables, and baked sweet potatoes for dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert with the left overs except for part of the turkey going home with mom.4 -
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I’ll also probably OMAD today but I won’t punish myself if I wind up having a snack beforehand. I’ve spent three days baking and delivering 12 batches of pastries, 25 pies, and 120 bread rolls and I’m sure I burned a decent amount of calories considering how active rolling out cold puff pastry and pie dough is. (I run a small bakery out of my home so this is a really busy time for me.) I’m also finishing the savory stuff today so I can drop off turkey and sides to the friends who went in on the bird with us. I have all of my regular exercise calories from today and the rest of the week so I know it will all come out in the wash, anyways.
I loosely logged what I’ll probably eat but I want to enjoy myself and not think too hard about it. I just want to enjoy my time with my partner since this is probably the only time Thanksgiving will just be the two of us.4 -
Happy Thanksgiving from my family! I hope you all have a wonderful day!
I'm also doing the whole OMAD and not stressing if I overeat. Like it's been said, it's only one day, and I've been moving around like heck today preparing everything, so I've kinda got a lot more steps in than usual. I figure that'll make up for the gravy and stuff3 -
Hope everyone who celebrated today had a great Thanksgiving meal with lots of love and family and a delicious, guilt free meal. I added apple pie to my dinner to feel connect with my American family! Guilt free applie pie even. :-)

I am SO tired!....I did TWO pool workouts today....one at 830 this morning and the other from 330 to 430.... my daughter and I prepped and cooked from 930 until 200....I had a very small plate of turkey, stuffing, potatoes and cranberries!...counted everything and skipped the rolls, veggies, and dessert...I was still stuffed...enjoyed the day very much and I feel NO guilt, been a long time since I said that after a holiday dinner!...I can still enjoy a turkey sandwich and a regular snack tonight!....if you splurged today or went a little over, get back at it tomorrow....don’t beat yourself up but I have to say I am feeling pretty proud of myself!....I really didn’t miss a thing or feel deprived...of course the night is still young and I could go crazy!4

I feel amazing! I ate what I planned. I did not over indulge. I didn’t get sleepy. I hate a perfect normal size amount. I did have two glasses of wine when I only planned on one but it’s fine.
I just feel so darn proud of myself!!!! I actually thanked y’all at the dinner table. My larger loser family for giving me the courage to do this!4 -
I had planned to go up to maintenance calories today and I did just that. My biggest victory was having a piece of pumpkin pie after lunch. A piece. One reasonable size piece. And not going back for a second and a third, or cutting myself a massive portion and feeling sick after eating it. Desserts are my weakness so this kind of self control is unprecedented!4

Congrats on making it healthily through Thanksgiving!
amart4224, congrats on the size 10 jeans!! So exciting!!2 -
I didn't count yesterday at all. The meal was sensible but I still overate I know. But its one day, and I'm working hard to remain on track today.
I also stayed off the scale this morning, and maybe even tomorrow morning too.......3 -
Happy belated Thanksgiving!
I also did not count at all on Thanksgiving (or yesterday), but we ate A LOT. All of it was fabulous, no regrets, and back on track today. Unfortunately I started off today with two slices of leftover cranberry curd pie before I actually plugged the recipe in and realized that 955 calories were already gone! I guess it will be a light lunch/supper day lol.1 -
@cremorna1 thank you! I was really excited about getting into those 10s...but today I saw the photos that were taken on Thursday and I think they fall in the category of "just because it fits doesn't mean it's flattering." Muffin top galore 😣
Another 5+ pounds and maybe I can put the 10s in the regular rotation.1 -
Seeing all these pie-posts makes me crave pie so much! I went grocery shopping today and was craving alllll the ice cream, pie, pudding etc. Bought some greek yoghurt instead and called it a day! Its good my husband was there to remind me we don't need to buy pizza, or pie or anything unhealthy. We are both in the "business" of making our muffin tops go away, and fitting into jeans that are the next size down.
But I still have a quite a few lbs till I get to a size 10!

One goal this month, I want to achieve a 50kg/110lb overall loss milestone in 1.1.2021. So, I have to lose 4.1kg/9lb in December, while also going through the holiday family eating bonanza unscathed.
And when I say bonanza, believe me I'm not exaggerating. Easter and Christmas is very big in Greece, and we tend to communally cook and consume ridiculous amounts of food. The only saving grace is that due to COVID-19 you can only have one feast per two families.
Which probably will restrain the amount of food cooked for the holidays to less than 250 pounds in our household.
It's a challenge, but I'll take it!!4 -
Thanks to covid we are having a delayed Thanksgiving. My wife and I enjoyed having nachos for our Thanksgiving meal but now my nephew is requesting a proper meal so it will be him and her parents. My nephew is having a tough year so we are being (probably too) accommodating to his various requests which means I will be doing a fair amount of cooking. When he was a kid everything he wanted was so easy. I remember him requesting hamburger helper one time. Now he likes things that require a lot more effort like meatballs. I think I might tell him they have fish sauce in them this time. He doesn't know that is one of the things that makes mine taste so good. If he knows he will probably stop liking them... lol.1

My birthday is the 17th, and where ordinarily we would go out, I will need to just go ahead and make my own fancy Indian dinner. I think I am going to do a lamb biryani and because my boyfriend can't have rice, I'll do him some tandoori chicken bites to have with raita and naan. And I want some beef samosas and onion pakora, and they're in my skill set, so I'll make them. I'll do a small yellow cake with chocolate icing, and call it good.3

When should I be there?1 -
(laugh) If we weren't having a pandemic, I'd invite you all.
That said, I will happily post recipes.2 -
Our family is very small with or without COVID....Christmas Eve we open gifts and have ham with a cold buffet and finger foods....Christmas Day is a breakfast casserole and dinner is Italian Ricotta stuffed manicotti, garlic bread, and overnight salad...heaven forbid if the tradition were ever to change!2

You can always adopt me. I will even help fix some of the food.2 -
Well, this week is another big holiday baking week for me and my business. I have two of them in December—this one is the holiday cookie box week. The actual holiday is closer to how Thanksgiving was with a seemingly random assortment of pies, tarts, cake rolls, a few more batches of cookies, bread rolls, sourdough, and morning pastries like croissants, danishes, and sticky buns. I'm still getting regular orders for Christmas and Christmas Eve and I'm a little overwhelmed this year, to be honest. I never expected my home bakery to take off so hard in a pandemic but these last two months have been wild. I'm really glad that my body is at a spot where I can handle the volume but this is the first time that I think I'm actually going to have to start telling people no.
Anyways, I usually take some time off or reduce my hours at my day job during the big baking weeks but we're slammed this year so this week I'll be balancing both. I played it pretty smart with all cookies that have dough that can be made in advance, taste better when they sit for a day or two, and look impressive without lots of fiddly decorating. Everyone's getting glazed citrus shortbread, speculaas, vegan browned coconut manna cookies, salted chocolate oatmeal cookies, and salted caramel thumbprints.
At the end of the week, I turn 30 and I'm really proud of where I am entering a new decade of existence. I'm much happier and much healthier—mind, body, and spirit. I'll be celebrating with more baking since my favorite cookbook author is doing a virtual bakealong and Q&A that I'm excited for. I don't love cake so I'm making myself a chocolate hazelnut galette des rois instead. Making puff pastry is like one of my biggest joys in life so I'm looking forward to it—probably more than all the cookies, haha.7 -
emmyjaykay, I am so happy to hear your business is taking off. Your baking sounds absolutely delicious! You must very skilled if you are confident in making puff pastry!! I wish you much stamina for all the work involved.3

We have a similar situation, it will be just me and my parents this year, and that's not really different from non-COVID times. My brother and extended family has always lived too far away to spend holidays with regularly. Growing up, the 4 of us would have our special Christmas Eve dinner which consisted of all the snacky finger foods... mozzarella sticks, pizza rolls, egg rolls, chips and salsa, deviled eggs, assorted fruits, cheese and meat assortments, etc. At some point we also started opening presents Christmas Eve when the parents decided they wanted to sleep in on Christmas 😂2
