We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - newmantjn (Todd)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard
Today's Topic: Supplements
Supplements get a bad rap from a lot of people. Others swear by them. WW used to recommend a multivitamin every day. Not sure if they still do. But, many still take their multivitamin. Others take supplements regularly. I take Vitamin D (as advised by my doctor) each day, for example. How about you? Do you take supplements? Do they have an effect? Have you changed your supplement intake over the years?

Right now mostly just vitamin D. I have at times taken some magnesium with calcium and zinc but not currently.2

I take a number of supplements. Fish oil, Turmeric, Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Vit. B1, Calcium with Vit. D, Vit. C, Flax seed oil, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and Folic Acid.
SEEM, to help, but who knows.2 -
Firm believer. Private label multi vitamin pack which include a fish oil, fruits and veggies among others. I add D3 5000iu and Zinc 50mg daily along with a joint vitamin also a b12. I also get down some Elderberry chewable and vitamin C chewables.1

I ebb and flow with this, but right now, and the last few years, I've taken:
+Multi vit for ♀️
+Calcium
+D (I was ridiculously low when tested 10 yes ago, and took 3 years to get it into a healthy range)
+Move free triple action for my joints. Hips used to lock up, pretty uncomfortable. Tried to go off them but symptoms returned quickly.
Recently added:
+B complex for ringing in my ears
Really sucks to get old LOL 🤣1 -
Magnesium and D for me, I have experimented with numerous others over the years for various aches and pains but eventually gave them up.1

Sometimes I remember to take one of my wife's one-a-days.1

I do. I take more supplements or vitamins than I do medications, which is not a bad thing.
- Like Lin, I take a vitamin D supplement on the advice of my doctor. 1000 IU per day gets me into the middle of the “normal” range.
- Like Al, I take a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement for my joints. When I asked my orthopedic surgeon about it, he said studies show very little value - except for the specific arthritis you have.
- Like others, I take a generic multivitamin because hey - why not? I know I don’t eat a rainbow every day, so a generic Walgreens isn’t unlikely to hurt. (Wish it wasn’t grey, though.)
