We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday – 88Olds
Wednesday - newmantjn (todd)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard

Today's Topic: Breakfast? Love it? Hate it? What do you typically do?

I love it. Now that I'm retired I eat it most every day.

I try to go heavy protein. So, my "go to" is 3 eggs and "4" sausages.

My "4" sausages is actually one long Costco Greenwhich Farms all natural beef snack stick cut into 4 breakfast sausage sized pieces. Prior to cutting, it is 110 calories, so I image it is the same after I cut it up.

That makes 210 calories of eggs and 110 of sausage for a total of 320, which is pretty good, especially considering that I get 32g of protein out of it.

Sometimes, I have some oatmeal mixed with applesauce, but it doesn't really stick with me.

If I'm feeling froggy, I might go get an egg mcstuffin' off the app

Oatmeal w/Greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, and banana. 311 calories & 19 gm. protein.
    Holds over well.

The most important meal of the day. Oatmeal. Every day. There was a time when I liked going out for breakfast. But at some point it seemed oatmeal at home took over. I can go out for lunch and have eggs then.

I skipped breakfast for 50 yrs and just had coffee and a dry piece of toast. Technically I still "DON'T"eat breakfast but then again at least 1 in 4 people who are highly successful on the National Weight Loss Registry don't claim to eat breakfast either.
Without some sort of definition the word breakfast lacks rigourous meaning. The best definition used is something approaching say 250-300 calories or more and within one hour of arising.
I get up and have coffee very early (4:30 - 5 a.m.) and go for a bike ride. I don't eat until 7 a.m. so not close to defined breakfast that way.
What IS different is that I DO eat more for my early first meal. I eat a veggie omelet and dry toast daily several hours after arising instead of just toast.
It has mad only a very slight difference to me BuT in a positive way later in the day.
I just store buckets of energy and am never hungry in the morning anyway.

I post this only so that people can see that one idea doesn't fit all and we shouldn't worry if we are different.
Do what works for you and you alone.

I still like going out for breakfast, but it’s a small logistical challenge.
    • I want breakfast early.
    • I prefer to exercise and sweat before showering.
    • I don’t like to go out without showering.

Put those three things together, and something’s gotta give in terms of going out for breakfast. Instead, sometimes I’ll do a diner for lunch and have breakfast for a second time. Hey, if it’s the most important meal, why not have it twice?

My go-to breakfast at home is sliced strawberries, FF Greek yogurt, and 1/3 cup of Fiber One kibble, all mixed together and washed down with a cup of Kona coffee. When I breakfast out, my default is a veggie omelet and coffee - although I’m more flexible in terms of sides, etc. if I’m motivated, it’s the generic mixed fruit alternative, but it may also be a grilled English muffin or something.

I love - but now avoid - Perkins when I travel. They have great muffins that are all delicious, and they run from 20 to 31 points for a muffin. (Yeah, two used to be breakfast before WW.)

I only started eating breakfast regularly when I started WW! I ultimately settled on a bowl of Go Lean with FF milk, and a cup of coffee. It's not very many calories, and keeps me satisfied until lunch time.

My go to breakfast most of the time is either a packet of instant oatmeal or 1/2 cup instant dry oatmeal w/3 cup of water microwave then add a 1/3 cup fat free greek yogurt 1 tsp of land o lakes light butter with canola oil and a 1/3 cup of frozen wild blueberries with 2 sweet n low packets then all together microwave everything for 40 seconds.Sometimes add 1 slice white wheat bread and sometimes add a banana.

On the weekends typically grits, eggs poached, 2 pieces white wheat and some apple butter. Occasionally one piece of jimmy dean turkey sausage patty. Or pancakes and eggs.

Muffin is really just another word for cake. Don’t know how the muffin came to be considered a “healthy” pick. Still recall how initially crunching the WW pts numbers made for some surprises.
