Yesterday, @Oofta_1507 asked about tips for “not too crazy indulging while on vacation”. I thought that might be a great topic for today given that the next season is just around the corner, and in the Northern hemisphere that means summer and vacations.
What vacation tips might you all have to share?

These days, which include Pre COVID, my trips are usually to compete in a Jiu Jitsu competition so I need to make weight and keep active which means I stick with my normal lifestyle of choosing the healthiest option the majority of the time. It’s even easier when I travel with the team and we all need to make weight, so even if we go out to eat we will choose a place with decent healthy options (and sometimes even share someone is still cutting weight.) After the competition we will celebrate with milkshakes (the first choice for some of us including me) or beer (the choice of some of the guys) regardless of the results and a good meal. Any weight gain will be temporary as competitions always inspire us to train hard as soon as we are back.
Awesome day today despite the fact that I made terrible food choices. It is all logged and under budget (although I did allow myself a higher budget today because I’ve been very under for the last 4 days, so used about a quarter of the calories from days I under ate.) Beach hike and ocean swim with my friend before some treats at a restaurant. It was a stunning winters day here in Africa!

Vacation tip: Whenever possible buy the food you like and prepare most of your own meals. It's much easier these days to buy healthy foods that you like and have them delivered from the grocery store.
Today was a beautiful day. I am spending the majority of my time at the farm. Lots of work to do here. Yesterday, the hay grass was cut. Today, we got a sudden rain shower of 1/8 inch. That will need to dry before we bale. This may well be my last hay cutting.
Exercise: lots of walking
Tracking: happy to say, it was good
Calories: under my limit.

Vacation tips: I always plan ahead to include exercise each morning.

Yes x 3 today and yesterday. I've been going easy on calories to compensate for my big Mexican food extravaganza easier this week.
My husband and I will be taking our first vacation in over 2 years next month, so I'm looking forward to reading everyone's words of wisdom!5 -

I don’t have many vacation tips... that’s always hard!... I try to get exercise in so that helps... but usually I’m well aware that I’m going over my calories and just need to get back on track when I’m home.
Today was a religious fast for me, so totally within calorie goal! Anyone else realize how easy it is to stay within calories with a religious fast but how hard it is otherwise? Anyways, here’s my day:
Exercise: yes! 22 min walking workout (still recovering from my fall... not up for a high impact or floor workout yet)
Track: yes!
Under calorie goal: yes!!!
Passes used: 25 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes! A 45 minute dance video and a 60 minute walk!

Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
I am not great about taking vacations! My dad was a workaholic who cancelled all but one of our family vacations because of work. (I was sent to a series of summer camps every summer instead.) I sadly inherited the workaholic traits, and married someone who works even longer hours than me. In 15 years of marriage, we have taken only 4 vacations (including our honeymoon). Our last vacation was in June 2019. So, at least we got that 4th one in before COVID!
I will say that I always end up losing weight on vacations, so I should probably take more of them! I believe that is because I actually relax, we go to beach/tropical places (and being in the sun makes me not want to eat as much), and we walk a lot and take part in a lot of active tours.4 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? YES, completed the last run of C25K week 3 on the treadmill. Plus a couple 15 minute walks, also on the treadmill. It's been a long time since I used it. Forgot how boring it is, even while watching Netflix. I really need to try and get up earlier in order to get outside before the worst of the summer heat.

Exercise – yes, less active than usual but I did get 30 minute cardio done.
Tracking – yes
Calories – yes
2 Pass days taken
We came home from our little break so we were packing up the van, then driving. Stopped for lunch and got home in the late afternoon. Didn’t get a chance of a bike ride or a long walk but I did get a couple of Utube videos done.
Vacation tips? I go on a lot of holidays now that I’m retired. Many of them are self-catering, which makes calorie tracking easier. Many of the breaks are short – less than a week. We are generally very active on holiday – walking, swimming, cycling etc. Sometimes I come home a couple of pounds heavier but it drops off again quite quickly once I’m home again.

I think my post disappeared. Short version: pass day 2. Exercise yes, tracking no, stayed in the range: no, which is why the tracking stopped. I'll do better this week.4

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes - water aerobics plus a few laps.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? No Must learn how to say no or to atleast only eat a little bit when a friend brings over some of the best bbq beef brisket I had ever tried. In Texas that is saying a lot.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes4 -
Vacations - I try to eat within reason but it’s rare as meals aren’t planned. Only activities are attempted to be preplanned and we eat around activities. I do tend to have extremely active vacations so it’s not terrible. Also, I try (well...it crosses my mind occasionally) not to overindulge on food and alcohol. I try to drink a lot of water no matter what is going on. When I get home, I get right back to logging and eating my normal way. I have found the added weight goes away after a few days to a week of being home so I don’t stress about it before, during, or after the vacation.

Tracking: Yes
Calories: under but I did not eat well - I did not plan lunch on the road as I should have so lunch was chocolate and toffee.
Exercise: Yes, light walk
Pass days to date - 3/3

Walking and HIIT
Vacations and travel are sadly still a work in progress for me. Still working it out though getting better. Prepared foods (roasted chicken and salad) at the grocery are a nice alternative to eating out.5
