Happy Wednesday!
Actually, it was my mom who loved a good jelly donut. My favorite has always been Tim Horton’s Sour Cream Glazed TimBits. I remember the day when I looked up the calories for a single TimBit and my jaw dropped. I always remember that day as the ‘Loss of Innocence’ in regard to food. How could such a small donut hole (aka TimBit) have so many calories?!!! It showed me how important it was to know the calorie and nutritional content of the foods that I eat. At this point, I know the nutritional value of the foods that I eat on a regular basis but I am always careful to look up something new and not assume.
Do you have a comparable moment in your life where you experienced a ‘Loss of Innocence’ in regard to a food?
I think my ‘Loss of Innocence’ is how "healthy" nuts could be really calories dense.6 -
I’m with you @clutterqueen, how can a serving of ice cream be only 1/2 a cup? Why are bowls so big then?
Wednesday, August 11
Tracking: Yes
Calories: Under
Exercise: Yes - walked with a 3 year old 25 min to the park, played at the park 45 min, carry the 3 year old home from the park 25 min. But this is part of why I want to live a healthy life - so I can play with and, if necessary, carry grandchildren. Although, a 4 year old may be my carry limit. We shall see. So many things to notice through the eyes of a 3 year old on a long walk. Just touching the bark of a tree brought wonder to her eyes. I appreciate everything about today.

Planned and had a good day today.
Exercise ✅ - 90 minutes of quick paced walking today with the puppy 🐾🐾
Calories ✅ - dipped into some of my exercise calories for a special dinner (planned)
Tracking ✅ - yes! Took the time today to scan all my vitamins and supplements into MFP to easily track them. Seeing them in my tracker each day will give me a better sense of my calcium, iron, etc.
Potato chips ALWAYS shock me by their caloric/fat/carb/sodium counts. Of course that is all they are made from! I cannot have them in the house as I have no self control when it comes to having a “serving”. I can have chocolate and sweets in the cupboard, ice cream in the freezer and never want any of them. But the salty, crunchy snacks take me down if I let them in the house. 🥸

@jamcnewman Have to echo your potato chips comment! I still buy them from time to time, but weighing out the portion just feels depressing... lol. I can't believe how many calories I used to throw back at a time.. not so much that I didn't know it, just that I chose to ignore it. Now I find the serving size for a potato chip snack is so unsatisfying for what it costs that it's not often worth it
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 20 minutes yoga and then I did two walks, 28 minutes for the first and 86 minutes for the second.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes, easily today
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? You bet7 -
Pass day. I tracked but didn’t move much so went over on calories. Tomorrow is another day.7

Thank you for the well wishes everyone. I received my negative result in the middle of the night last night so that's a bit of a relief. But I am still quite under the weather. My headache is gone today at least, after falling asleep on my acupressure mat and pillow last night at bedtime - that helped more than the painkillers did! I might feel up to doing some light exercise later on, though the evening seem to be when I feel the worst so I'll just see how I feel later and if I don't exercise, I will at least track everything!7 -

Did I exercise at least 20 minutes? Don't think I quite reached it. Ended up driving myself today as the storm last night kept me awake and somehow I managed to integrate my alarm into my dreams or something. And I hadn't even walked out the door when my bus went by. Oops. Drove myself. So didn't get the walk to/from the bus stops. Did some chair dancing, and some walking. No stairs, as we were warned to stay out of the stairwell today because apparently there was some damage on some of the floors from last night's storm. And then my daughter took me to dinner and afterwards needed some "comfort time" with her mommy. So no walk until I took Sienna on her last go round.
Did I track everything? Yes.
Did I stay under calorie budget? I did not. I almost wrote "I wasn't too far off," but I was. "Not too far" might be 10-20 calories, but I was off by over 200 cals. So this is something I really need to work on. My calorie goal is just over 1200 according to MFP due to my sedentary ways. Early in my Diet of Hope journey, it was a miracle if I even hit 1000 calories as I was averaging between 750-900 calories per day (low carb/high protein/high fat - not quite keto but close). Now, I'm lucky to be at the 1200. I need to get back to the mindset I was in last year, even if I don't drop back to that low. And I need to get out more often to really exercise.
Loss of innocence? Not sure, but I've had a bit of an eye-opener recently. I'm having a procedure done on Monday (those of you around my age probably can guess) and I'm having to eat a low fiber diet this week. According to the internet, certain things are just not allowed on a low fiber diet and I've found that I'm missing some of the things I've gotten used to having. But at the same time, I'm eating some things I really like, and that's been a mistake because, while the fiber count is fairly low, the carbs and calories are pretty high. I know I could change that, and not use this as an excuse to eat those things I know I shouldn't. But... I'm still weak like that. But, now I know.

Pass day for me. It was my husband's birthday. I did not eat anything over the top but I did indulge a little and did not track. And I did get in a good amount of exercise.
I have been enjoying reading everyone's comments and their particular experiences. Thank you for sharing.
Serving size too is a definite surprise in life for me too. I too have had that experience with the 1/2 cup ice cream.
@RangerRickL's comment on being raised to eat everything makes me think of my 2 year old granddaughter. Her parents approach is very different from anything I have ever learned and I appreciate what I learn from watching them as parents. First of all, she as been self feeding from a young age which was quite different for me. They give her incredibly healthy food options. I often look at her meal and think I should be eating what she is eating. But they are both very careful not to force food on her because they feel this is a message too many of us get in that we need to clear our plate etc. They want her to learn to eat when she is hungry and quit when she is full. What a concept, says me, who is still struggling with this!!!8 -

Oh yes. Enough But one day it is all over. I am thinking on even breaking my sober streak for a day and celebrate at our new place. But I am not sure if I will do that.... In fact, I dont miss alcohol4 -

I ask the same question every time when finishing a bowl of "Magnum Classic". But I guess that a smaller bar of the same ice cream does not bring me the same satisfaction, which increases proportionally to the ice size

@znaoiec - what a thought provoking question! I don’t think I had a specific “a ha” moment but it was definitely an eye opener when I realized how many calories I was eating with the snacking at work. One little bag of.chips leads to another leads to a granola bar leads to a candy bar leads to chips and it just repeats. They don’t fill me up, I just want more and more, and the calories are outrageous. This is one very bad habit that I have 95% under control.5

Chai lattes i love them so much and even have them with almond milk but they hve sooo much calories. Hot chips is also another 1 that is so ridiculously high.3

Today's win: I woke up this morning to the pouring rain which would normally put me off my morning walk and enough to make an excuse not to do it. But I made the decision that it's only water and walked anyway (thanks to this challenge of having to get my exercise in). Suffice to say, I got absolutely soaking wet .. but did it feel good .. hell yeah!
And what's even better is ... now I can NEVER use that excuse again!!!
Day 11
2/3 pass days used
@Healthymumlife Since it's been so hot here, I've been walking very early once I get to work... and yesterday I got caught in the (light) rain.. (and I must add that per Murphy's Law, the rain is going to begin when you are farthest away from your jobsite!) sooooo I took off JOGGING back to work. It was only a 5 minute jog - but I was very pleased that I could jog for 5 whole minutes without dying!5 -

Growing up on Sunday morning before church we would always have fruit and a danish . It was the danish, which I still love on Sunday mornings, that was the original shocker.6 -
