After my Bariatric Sleeve Surgery in October 2020, I felt I really needed to reach out to others for support and encouragement. MFP has been a wonderful extension of my WL journey. I was unable to find many active groups for WLS patients or those thinking about having WLS. So, I open this to others around the globe who are thinking about or have had the surgery.
Ask advice (although it won't be medical advice, always talk to your Dr.), share recipes, share your journey!
Please be kind and respectful! This needs to be a safe place.

I'm getting sleeved on September 21, my Dr is happy with the progress I've made preparing for the surgery. But I stalled out last month so I'm a little frustrated with my self. Did any of you start doing the really small portions before the surgery, which would be similar to after surgery? If so how often were you supposed to eat or drink something, I'm understanding position sizes but the 2TBLS frequency eludes me. I think I'm a little nervouse and just don't want to mess things up, before or after. Thanks for any ideas you would like to share with me.1

Congratulations for having a date! That's exciting! I woukd just concentrate on the pre diet your Dr has you do and stock with those portions. Believe me, after surgery you will complete understand the 2 Tbsp. It may seem far fetched now, but the surgery changes that in tge beginning. Concentrate on right now. We were all afraid, and I still am, of messing up. But realize we will make mistakes. After surgery you're body will tell you! Let yourself make some, just work to do what you need to over all.2 -

Welcome and congratulations! So I have a confession about presurgery and my pre-op diet. I knew the cut-off point for when I had to start the proper pre-op diet to shrink my liver... So I indulged in favourite foods up to then. And I mean indulged! haha
Even on the pre-op diet, I didn't worry at all about trying to get used to eating smaller amounts because after surgery you have no choice. You have to eat only a couple of TBLS of liquid initially, then slowly work your way through the carefully planned post-op diet levels. Your body won't be able to have bigger meals so trying to get it used to small quantities now is not as vital. Yes, eat off of a side plate now. Have smaller portions in general but you don't need to practice the tiny amounts. I imagine you are trying because you are practicing for the mental game of it. But, as Shauna said, your body will tell you when you can and can't eat after surgery. Focus on what the doctor suggests now. Try not to worry about the after too much. I know that is hard because I sure did... But try...

Congratulations on joining the losers bench. It is difficult at first to get liquids and then protein, but it does get easier physically to do it. Then you get to deal with mentally. It's all soooo worth it! Let us know how you progress!0 -

Welcome! You will get there. Slow and steady on the liquids and getting used to the new stomach size and the way you need to eat. You got this!

Hi all! I just had my VSG surgery on 9/24/21. I am now entering the liquid phase. Can’t wait to eat real food!
Looking for any new connections and support through this new lifestyle. Always interested in tasty recipes too!1 -
Welcome to the group and your new stomach!
I was the same, eager for getting back to real food. Patience and practice and Protein! haha
My surgery was April 19th and I'm steadily dropping weight at a pace that doesn't feel too fast.
Feel free to add me as a friend!
I've not been tracking too much but I do check in here every few days1 -

Hello, new to the group, had my VSG on June 24th 2020. I've lost 109 pounds since surgery and 193 from my highest in 2016. I am struggling badly right now. I lose 1 or 2 pounds then gain 7 or 8. manage to lose that, and repeat the cycle. Looking for inspiration to get me back on track. I still need to lose nearly 100 more pounds2

Welcome to the Village! We are all struggling with the same fears, goals, and struggles. But we can celebrate the successes as well!
Come back often and participate. It really helps
