biketheworld wrote: Β»I had one remarkable day yesterday. I knew they were throwing a retirement lunch for me, but I had no idea what all was involved. I thought it was just open house lunch, Iβd be saying hi and goodbye and that would be pretty much all. Well, there were decorations, a cake, cards, gifts, and then a big presentation with the board president saying all kinds of nice things followed by the mayor reading a declaration naming the day in my honor. I was stunned, flattered, it made me laugh because it was so over the top, and it was one heckuva way to go out. Iβm being retained as an βadvisorβ for the next year to help in the transition so it was nice to say βthis isnβt goodbye, Iβll still be around.β Then to top it off, we threw a party for our FAA medical examiner after work who is also retiring. More food, alcohol, talking, laughing, it was 9:30 before I got home. What a day.
That said, I probably was fine with calories, and I got my exercise in before work, but I gave up trying to log every BLT and am calling it a pass day. Soβ¦. Thatβs #3 for me. I can make it to the end of the month and make the winners circle.
Congratulations!2 -

Today was pretty much the end of my birthday month, despite there still being 3 days to go. I've been out of the winner's circle since about August 4, but that's okay. I know I've effed up this month. I knew I was when I was doing it. I know what I need to do and I need to just do it. So, if I can make it past the first week of September without a pass day, I'll count that as a success for me.We did the last of our planned celebrations, (our only planned celebration, actually), by going to dinner at our (okay, my) favorite diner and then seeing a show at the Gaslight Theatre. Melodrama musical spoofs and I've celebrated just about every birthday there for the last 30 years or so. Even last year, although it wasn't a typical year. Last year, in order to keep their casts working, the theatre set up a "drive-in concert" venue in the parking lot. The concerts were mostly tribute concerts. Sometimes there would be a local band playing. Cars were parked every other space and you could sit outside the car, in your space. We could order pizzas, burgers, drinks, and they gave everybody a big bag of popcorn. So, last year, on my birthday, we went for the George Strait tribute. I do love me some King George. Anyways, tonight's show was a spoof of Star Wars. Because we've been going to the Gaslight for so long, we know some of the actors. Tonight was the B-cast, which kind of had me bummed out, until I realized that the one A-lister there was my favorite. At the end of the show and before the olios, they usually announce birthdays, anniversaries, people who have come from out of town, and those people get ice cream (cones for the most part, although the anniversaries get a sundae with two spoons). It's always fun, if currently not *quite* as interactive as in the past, and I laughed and laughed, and was just genuinely happy to be back in the theatre for a show. Next week, they start the Fall show, which is "Frankenstein." The holiday show is "Elf'd," the winter show is "Arizona Smith" followed by "The Three Musketeers," which we may go see on the girls' birthday as it will be a version of the show we saw on their 16th birthday. Sorry, I get a bit carried away about this place. So, I'll just say if you are ever going to be in Tucson, call them, get online, do something to see if you can get tickets for a show. You won't regret it.5 -
UAC is about helping us set up good habits to help us on our quest for a fitter and healthier future. The choices we make are reflected in the progress we make.
However, choices are not set in stone, and and being human, we stray from the path occasionally. The trick is to recognise the detour as temporary, get back on track, and return to our quest.
When I choose to stray from the path like I did yesterday, I know what the consequences of a day of indulgence will be. I don't waste time or energy on the negativity of guilt or beating myself up.
We are all miracles in progress. Be kind to yourself!
Hang in there. You can still make the Winners Circle.

Still in Paris, but catching the Eurostar to London this morning! Did a day's work in Paris yesterday, but managed to get to the theatre, had a nice meal, so all in all I was way over calories. I did clock up some 55 - 60 minutes walking though! Logged most of it, but had to guesstimate some.
Excited to see my kids today, after 20 months!
Posted on wrong day, yesterday, but now on Eurostar!6 -

@bradkcrew exceptional run! I hope that your knee is well. I tore my meniscus snow skiing years and years ago and never thought I would be able to do more than 2 miles or 20 minutes of running. Then one day I just could. I think the couch to 5K program taught me that it was OK to walk AND run and it wasn't cheating. LOL.4 -

@SummerSkier Thanks! In general, I don't have the couch to 5K mentality, and maybe that's a problem I need to work on. With the 15k race six weeks from today, sure, barring a serious injury I can get through it with a run/walk combo under the time limit. Many runners will be doing that, but for me I have to run every step nonstop or I will feel like I failed.
@lesdarts180 @TerriRichardson112 Thanks!3 -
Yes, yes and yes
13.5 mile training walk. Felt decent and went shopping later but was tired later.
I am slowing getting back in shape which feels positive.4 -
