    Question

We love to eat and enjoy food but food can help us through some stressful times, fill us up when we are feeling empty, help us procrastinate, soothe anger and do all kids of thing we need. What are some substitutes for food in situations where you turn to food?

    Books and dogs

Are you reading books to your dogs? LOL LOL LOL (sorry being silly)

Actually I do read to them especially my middle one who is psycho. LOL 😆

Hey guys! Had a day yesterday where I just could not say no to eating all the things. I don't know why I was a bottomless pit. I did start lifting again this week and this morning the scale showed both a 4# gain in 24 hrs I know it is water but so scary to see numbers go up so drastically. Apologizing in advance if I can't get it down before Tuesday weigh in. I did enjoy myself but I just don't know why I was so hungry. I am also in a baking mood. I want to bake all the things too and I know that is dangerous. Maybe the bear in me is feeling the weather changes. I am just going to keep a watch on this big time.

That’s part of what happened to me. I was very hungry but I also made poor choices to feed the hunger. No worries if your weight is up. I am so glad I am a terrible baker. Hang in there.

@tahm42 I am the same right now. I want to bake more right now since my family has since I was small. It is that time of year. I snacked heavily yesterday but I tried to limit the amount of each. 3 jelly beans instead of the handful I grabbed, one handful of popcorn and pass the bag out of reach, etc. Good luck with your weights.

If I could go anywhere for vacation, I think I would go back to Illinois and Tennessee. My mom's family is in Illinois and I haven't seen them since 1984. My mom is buried there. My wife's parents are buried in Tennessee and we haven't been there since 1987. It has been way to long but no money for it.

Yesterday I had a nice NSV. I have been looking for another pair of jeans at normal stores, size 46. Couldn't find them. Yesterday after I left the gym I stopped my another target store and decided to try on the one pair of 44x30 i found. They fit nice. A little room in the waist. 20 bucks instead of 65 at the big and tall. I wore them to the zoo last night and they were very comfy. Bypassed another size.

That is am awesome NSV! It’s nice to get to save money in the process.

I think you added an extra 100 onto your weight. I would love to go to the zoo but it is 2 hours away. Great way to get steps!

Whoops you're right! Habit from the past I guess. Should say 156.8. Our zoo takes about 30mins to get to. It's possible to make a whole day trip out of it due to how big it is, which we do a lot, but the nice thing about having a yearly membership is being able to do short trips too and see different things each time.

    Weigh In Day: Saturday
    PW (Previous Weight): 210.2lbs
    CW (Current Weight): 109.7

We have entered the busiest period of my work - October through January I'm going to work like mad, and as an international sales person I'll also be doing a fair bit of traveling. I apologize in advance but I'm sure my delay has already been noted!

Next Saturday is my birthday and I will be in Rome, so I have to skip my weigh-in then please.

I forgot to mention that I ordered my Apple Watch on Friday. It will be here in a week. I am both excited and nervous at the same time. I got a series 7 and I am hoping to have better luck than I did with Fitbits.

    @lindamtuck2018

The calorie burn is a combination of my intensity minutes both moderate and vigorous. Generally, from what I have read, one should aim for 150 mins of moderate exercise or 75 mins of vigorous exercise, per week. Obviously any combination is good. My intensity minutes seem to double when I go for more (vigorous) intensity. For instance, yesterday, Saturday, I burned 781 calories. My total focused exercise time was over 2 hours/120+ minutes. It didn't include all of my running around doing errands, or running at a fast pace up the stairs over and over to get our dog, before he pees on the carpet. He has had a couple of major bladder operations... Although it wasn't focused exercised, it seems to appear in my intensity minutes. Hope any of this makes sense. I'll post yesterdays check in below. Also, I'll break out daily total minutes vs. weekly total minutes.

ETA: I tend to do more of an interval workout whatever I am doing. A lot of times I exercise at the high end (80%) or a bit more and sometimes somewhere in the middle. I go by perceived exertion (how I feel on a 1-10 scale). I use a HRM chest strap that is even more accurate than my watch alone. Of course this (exertion) depends on ones level of fitness, etc.

What are some substitutes for food in situations where you turn to food?

This may be obvious to many of you, but it took me a minute, lol. I love, love to cook so I love reading about cooking when I have time. Anyway, I don't read about things I would like to cook, or plan on cooking, when I am hungry. I make sure it is after eating, or I have some flavored seltzer or mineral water handy. Also, exercise works well for me.
