I am one year away from retirement and I want to get in better shape. I need this accountability group. I want to lose 24 pounds eventually. I plan to take it one day at a time.7

Welcome @mmcram !! I'm 324 days away from retiring from my (almost) 20 year full time bank job! #cantwait Although I plan to get a part time job doing something that I "enjoy"...... it's nice to meet you!!5

Hello! I'm Maryann. This will be my 11th month with UAC. I never know how much to say here, as I fear I'll bore people with the same introduction month in and month out. LOL. Sadly for me November will bring the 2 year mark of my journey, and I hoped to be done by now. Alas, I didn't account for COVID and a whole bunch of other s*** when I set my expectations for when I'd be done. So here I am, at 2 years, with 60lbs down and still 20lbs to go. I'll just keep moving forward, no matter how slow. I'm focusing more on running this month since the fall brings the best running weather. Randomness to make it a little more interesting: I like to reward myself with rings for weight loss milestones, when I need some zen I go find 4 leaf clovers, I'm currently obsessed with finding the perfect dress for my next work offsite and I just cannot find it, wearing the ugliest running tights/jackets I can find brings me pure joy, and I despise olives.7

Greetings everyone, new and old! My name is Chris and I have been participating in these UAC challenges since May 2021. I have stuck around since then to ensure I stick with the 3 primary UAC goals long term, and also took inspiration from many others here to further challenge myself in other ways. It has been a very rewarding 2021 because of this.
I'm currently in a bit of a slump of sorts, where in prior times I probably would have stopped tracking and everything at this point. After all, I'm not getting any runs or walks in due to resting up a case of plantar fasciitis, and have a couple other big things going on that are more personal which really occupy a lot of attention all of the sudden, attention I don't have a lot of time to afford, but must spend any ways!
I think this is part of what attracted me to this challenge to begin with, knowing that in essence, holding myself accountable to these 3 main objectives will prevent me from derailing from my health and fitness goals, even during times that may cause one to wonder if they have such time to focus on all that health and fitness stuff. Yes, you must keep that focus, no matter what. I've seen the other side of that already (news flash: leads to substantially less health and fitness).
So here I am. I am extremely thankful to have found this group and challenge which provide a simple, easy mechanism to keep the 3 most critical factors of maintaining health and fitness. Those 3 daily goals.
Looking forward to getting to know all the new folks!6 -
Hello. This is my first challenge. I am new to MyFitnessPal (1 month) but not to tracking meals and fitness. I have been on Noom since July 2019 and I have lost 70 pounds. I have been meeting with a dietitian for my cholesterol so she reviews my diary. I use YouTube for my fitness workouts. My favorite s are Pahla B Fitness and Fabulous50’s.
I am looking forward to this challenge.7 -
Ok, I realized this morning that I have two user names. I posted earlier as juffelman49. My user name is jmu1965. I am looking forward to this group and my first challenge.6

Hello All,
I’m brand new to UAC! I really need this challenge as a way to hold myself accountable. For a few years now I keep losing and gaining same 5 lbs.. Ultimately need to lose 15 lbs.. I’m very frustrated! But this sounds like a structured and supportive forum and I’m looking forward to meeting you all and sharing stories10 -
My second time sticking to MFP. I started with My Peak Challenge back in 2017, and did great for 2 years, lost 29 lbs. first 6 mos, kept it off 1 1/2 yrs. Stopped tracking and gained some back, then Covid hit, and it all went...well you get it. I've gained 35 lbs. Though I'm 8 lbs. down, 2 lbs since starting MFP seriously 1 1/2 weeks ago. I really do like tracking so I should do okay. MPC comes with a food program, which I don't use (different food likes) but I love their workout and yoga program. I rarely miss a day. I usually take one day off to rest my body, but I do walk down and up our very steep drive (2 switch backs, 1/3 mi. each way) so I'll get that in for my rest day - it takes 10 min. each walk, and I like to do it 2 x a day on top of my workouts.6

Hello all, looking forward to another month. I have been part of the UAC for a few months now. I'm currently about 93 pounds down in my 125 pound journey. My weight has been up and down throughout my entire adult life but COVID really had me hit my roughest patch. I decided to turn it around and make a different choice and I haven't looked back.
I have focused on habits and change that's sustainable. Staying active on MFP is a huge part of my life now which keeps my health and wellness front and center. This group is a huge part of that. Love the positivity and support.
The three rules are the critical aspects to weight loss and I'm so happy to work on it with a group of like minded people.
Looking forward to continuing to getting to know everyone.7 -
Hi I am Kate and I have lost track of how long I have been in this challenge but it’s a great one. I have lost many pounds and have had some slumps and plateaus but this group keeps me going 3 things each day to accomplish: exercise, track your food/drink and log.7

Hi all 😊 I’m excited to join this group! I’m a mid-30s mom of two toddlers. I’d like to lose 20 lbs… I need help staying consistent with both eating and exercise. I love running and I’ve been hit or miss with it the past month. I’m going to start tracking tomorrow to lead up to November. Let’s do this!!6

Hi all, I'm an MFP old hand having been working to better control my weight for 20 years. I lose the same 2.5 stone every few years, keep it off for a while and then find myself surprised one day when it has crept back on. My first real "diet" was done in 2000 after my sister pointed out that University had made me fat!! Since then I moved countries, moved back, married, had a kid, had a dog, had a divorce, not had Covid... I was back at my heaviest again last week and my mum was kind enough to point it out this time! So here I am tracking, walking and trying to make good choices.10

Aw, I'm sure mom means well..... lol. In any case, we're terribly excited that you're going to join us in November! WELCOME!!3 -
Hello everyone! This is my first time joining this group/challenge. I'm retired and about to turn 60 in November and I want to be fit, look good, and enjoy being in my own skin. When I saw the description of the challenge, I really liked the focus on the actions vs just the numbers on the scale, which can be frustrating at times. I've started this journey many times, but I've decided that my new job in retirement is my health. Luckily, I've found exercise that I really enjoy (Jazzercise) and my family are all exceedingly fit and healthy eaters, so no unhealthy distractions for the most part.
When I started up again here in September, I weighed what I did just before I gave birth to my oldest almost 30 years ago. I can't claim baby weight after all that time! I would like to lose a total of 40 pounds, which would take me to where I was before kids. I'm about 13 pounds down already, which leaves me another 25-27 pounds to go. Since starting back, I've closed all 3 of my apple watch rings everyday (Move calories = 600, Exercise minutes = 30, Stand = 12 times/day) and logged my food and water for almost 2 months. However, with the holidays around the corner and associated travel, I hope this challenge will give some extra incentive to stay focused each and every day.
Thanks for letting me join you!7 -
WELCOME @enlightenme3 We're definitely glad to have you! And good for you for putting your health first in retirement! I just turned 60 in May of this year..... I've heard that 60 is the new 50! Lol. In any case, WELCOME!4

Hi!! I'm Spencer, 29yo and only just starting to take my health seriously. My BMI is 34 which is much higher than I want it to be, especially with a family history of heart problems.
I've just started using MFP and working out in October, but I'm very keen to keep this motivation going. I've lost 2kg so far, and am aiming to get to a 27kg loss around the end of April. November goal will be just to lose ~4kg during the month (1kg per week). I've started swimming laps a couple of times a week and I'm loving it! I forgot how much I love swimming. I also have noodle arms and am very keen to do a bit more strength training to get those a bit stronger.

WELCOME Spencer @spiceinvaders !! I absolutely your name, and we're so glad that you're here! Feel free to join us finishing out October, just to take a look at how we do things and get into the "habit" of logging into the group everyday..... if you like! No pressure! Hello. I've been flying solo on the app for a while trying to eat more nutritiously. Now I am ready to get in better shape and I need accountability to exercise, especially as the days get shorter and colder. Thanks to those who make this group happen 😄6

WELCOME @Heliotr0pe !! And it's a great idea to seek out accountability. We look forward to getting to know you better.2

Hello to new & old members. I've been a "closet" member of the UAC sine June 2020. By closet, I mean not being active in the group, not participating much, keeping to myself. However since I found the UAC, my goal has been to be a successful, contributing member at Maintenance. My journey has been more about learning why I can't lose the weight (emotional binge eater) and then learning why I do it, what my triggers are, and how to replace the behavior. I only made the Winner's Circle once: June 2021, and I will be in the October Winner's Circle this month. This last month is the one that I feel like I'm finally starting to apply the strategies I've been learning and that they could be sustainable for the long term. I'm also ready to embrace the community. I guess I felt like a failure at something that seemed to come so easily to others. As time has gone on, I've realized that all of us have in the past, or in the present, struggled. And that it's all part of the journey to eventually being successful. So going forward my goal is to be a Champion: showing up every day. Yes I want to be in the Winner's Circle, but I need to show up and be accountable all the other months.

Hello, all.
I dropped off the face of UAC (and MFP itself) back in March of this year. But I am back. Today (Oct 30) I put in the walking that was earned while my fitbit was recharging. Tomorrow (or maybe tonight's supper, but not brunch as it wasn't weighed" I start weighing and logging food again.
My goal for this month is to become a Champion,
Re-establish habits.
The daily logging and getting steps in.
Gather data.
I have given myself a "close to what maintenance calories would be" daily goal to start with, so as to encourage myself to "stay within limits" ... and take it from there.5 -
WELCOME back @BMcC9 - it's good to see you back!! That's exactly how I got started a year ago when I came back to MFP - my entire first month was all about logging, that's all. I had to get into the habit of logging every single thing I ate/drank and for whatever reason, I wasn't very good at that and found it difficult. Lol. Now, thankfully, it's more of a "habit". In fact, I try to pre-plan my next day's meals the evening before (in my food diary), so that I can plan what my "snack" will be, and make sure I have enough wiggle room for it!3

Hi, I am Susan, back for my second month of UAC. Just yesterday I finished with my last psychotherapy client, so although I still own a counseling center that I run, I am mostly retired now as that only involves a few hours of work per week and I am free from work commitments that require meetings. Now I should have plenty of time and no excuses for not giving my health first priority. (My husband does not track but is also trying to do a similar lifestyle with me:)
For me tracking seems to be key for me to lose weight. I try to go to the YMCA to swim 6 days a week and lift weights 3 days a week.7 -
when I was in the zone, I would pre-log for the day every day as soon as I had weighed my toast for the day, and then refine as I went along. I am hoping that it is kinda like riding a bike ... tending to come back quickly once you actually climb aboard.5
-
Hi, I’m Katie and I’m not sure when I first started with UAC but I do know that when I participate I’m happier. The very act of logging how I’ve got on each day helps keep me focused, seeing how everyone else’s day has gone also keeps me going, lots of inspiring people in this group!6

Hi all! I've been taking a break from the UAC since last summer and my weight has remained stable, but this Halloween season has proven to me that I need greater accountability over the holidays. So, I'm back!
I also need a measure of support for my own well-being because, in addition to working full-time as a professor, I'm a caregiver for my husband Mike. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018 (early onset--he's just 57), and his illness has progressed more quickly than any of his doctors predicted. At this point, he's retired on disability. Taking care of him is a full-time job on its own--so when you add work to the mix, taking care of me often slips through the cracks. But that's why I'm here.10
