I’m not going to lie, this month has been tough on me. And it’s been a great reminder (and warning) that what you focus on expands.
I noticed I haven’t been as focused and diligent in the UAC chat as I was in October. I’m eating less at the kitchen table with my family, or eating less period because I might forget to eat due to work. — Therefore the cares of life expands versus caring for my health and my family.
But I’m trying to embrace setbacks and mistakes and not let them define who I am. I believe in my ability to grow beyond my current state and condition.
I came across some info on fixed and growth mindset earlier in the year and it was encouraging and eye opening. I THOUGHT I was “open minded” but I DEFINITELY had a FIXED mindset.
I pray it gives you a sense of hope too, no matter what state you’re in.

I was racking my brain as it was all very familiar and then remembered I have Dr Carol Dweck’s book, Mindset! I bought it before my son was born and then got busy with him and work and didn’t get to finish it. These days I tend to only read books I can download on my phone. But I’ll be picking this one up again as I remember it being eye opening. Thanks so much for sharing!
✅ exercise - ran 5K today. Following the Nike Run app to train for my 10K in April 🤞
✅ calories - I’m so far under I actually need to eat something.

@taurie
Thanks for responding. Glad it jerked your memory! I’m currently reading the book as a digital download through my local library. It’s through the Libby app/Overdrive. As a mom I find it more convenient to do ebooks and/or audiobooks so I can multitask and actually get through a book! But I love ebooks because I can have them read to me! So if I hear something that resonates with me I can re-read it and highlight it. Such a win-win!

Interesting opener @StayFITTer. I haven’t heard it described that way before but I agree with the concept. My first career was as a teacher – which would itself suggest that I think people can improve if they want to. I moved on to teaching mature students returning to education where the idea of continuing education and continuing learning is key. Then I changed career direction and re-trained as an accountant in my mid forties, finally completing all my exams (after several set-backs) just after my 50th birthday. My sister went to university in her 50s and completed a degree in philosophy. We were just talking yesterday about this very idea.
As far as intelligence goes it’s “keep it or lose it”. Keep an open mind and keep learning.

I don't know if you would call it "a problem" or "skewing the test" but I did the test (and I could tell what the answers that SHOULD give a "growth mindset" would be .... and often they WOULD be my answers ... but not truly feeling it at work these days even though I (mostly) answered "as if" in my usual mindset. It came back "mostly growth mindset with some fixed mindset elements"
Since @StayFITTer mentioned getting via Libby/Overdrive and her local library - I will check my Libby app and see if MY local library has it too. I also like being "read to" ... so many books; so little time. I'm not sure why I resisted putting it on my tablet for so long .....3 -
Exercise- yes 20 minutes Pilates and a 30 minute walk
Tracking - yes
Calories- just about.
@StayFITTer i will read this article, I think mindset is everything. It determines so much about how you live your life and how happy you are. They talked about growth mindset at my childrens’ school but I’ve not read much about it, thanks for the prompt.6 -

Today has been hard. I had my booster jab yesterday and it has knocked me off my feet. I managed to get out for a walk with my dog but it was hard work. I just hurt so much all over :-( Saying that I had 2 jabs of astrozenica before and COVID still nearly killed me so I am glad I have the opportunity to refresh immune system. I'm hoping I can sleep tonight. I didn't get to sleep until 630 this morning because of nerve pain and then I drempt of pain lol The plus side is keeping below my calorie goal was easy because my appetite has gone :-)13 -

Exercise - ❌
Calories - ✅ I prelogged the day and ate as planned, but had enough steps from going into the office to change the planned 100 calorie surplus into a (currently) 46 calorie deficit. Since it's so close I'm not going to eat anything extra and just sort of enjoy a 2 out of 3 day for the first time in a while.
Tracked - ✅ All of it
Great opener! This is my first chance to check in today so I read the first bit and that first chart, but plan to read the rest this evening.
I can say without a doubt I have learned over the years that I naturally have a fixed mentality, but life throws so many curve balls my way, be it family, work, you name it, that I have been dragged (kicking and screaming, learning the hard way at nearly every step) into much, much more of a growth mentality, and I find everything goes best the more I embrace that. But my natural proclivities lead me back to a fixed mentality far too often.
There are periods where I feel I am far more open to growth mentality naturally. What I really need is for that "temporary" mentality of the growth variety to become my "fixed" mentality overall, but instead it just seems to become a fixed mentality all over again, and that just winds up pissing everyone off.7 -

Very interesting opener @StayFITTer, ty. I skimmed the article but will come back to it on the weekend to take it in fully.
Yes x 3 today. Were it not for the UAC, I would have skipped the exercise. But I had such a good eating day, it would have been a shame to take a pass for ño exercise. Plus I feel so good when I get outside, does a world of good for my mental health.8 -
@davert123 - sorry to hear your booster shot knocked you back a bit. As you said - it is definitely a privilege, but it doesn't always feel that way the next day. I told my daughter today after I had my aches, pains and fever after my booster, that I'm sure glad for the the one day of minor malaise compared to a full blown case of Covid.7

Another pass day. No exercise today because I had to wait for a service person and the arrival window was wide. It was somewhat of an emergency situation so i didn't want to miss him. I have logged everything and have 7cal left for the day. So I won't be eating anything else.7

Exercise: Tracking: Calories:
This challenge probably saved me with the calories today! I was SO hungry all day--one of the worst days I can remember. I know it is no big deal for me to eat more at this point, but I thought about it and decided that if I say I am going to stay under X calories, that is what I need to do rather than making a new plan midday. I do wonder why I was so hungry though. I am going to up my calories by another 100 calories just so the buffer is there in the future, plus I know I have to work my way out of a calorie deficit...but after being so laser focused for so long it is proving to be a complicated transition for me.6 -
Exercised - 30 min of weight machines
Tracked and calories- Was doing just fine until late afternoon. Found myself nibbling on this and that, telling myself I'd track it later. After dinner the appetite continued and I snacked more than I should have. Didn't bother to track. Resolve to do better tomorrow!
I think the reason for the increased appetite was that my brain was wanting sugar and carbs for energy. Last night I had troubles getting back to sleep between 2 and close to 4 a.m. My mind was wide awake for some reason. Hopefully tonight I sleep better!
5 or 6 or so pass days used.4
