This is the day that I normally give some mid-month stats.... but unfortunately, I've been feeling under the weather most of December, first with bronchitis, and then with a sinus infection. So I apologize that I haven't been keeping up with the monthly stats like I usually do..... but I'm so very grateful to be part of such a wonderful group - I want to thank each and every one of you for everything that you contribute to this team. I think we have an amazing team with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom about living a healthy lifestyle!
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate YOU.
Today, I'd like to ask:
1) what are your plans for the upcoming holiday; and
2) how do you plan to stay on track through the end of the year;7 -
Dec 17....well in answer to your above question....I am not staying on track this end of year. I am having a bit of a patch of not being able to tick all 3 accountability goals as I am just struggling to keep all of my plates spinning in the air at the moment. I will be back though soon.8

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? yes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes
How am I staying on track during the holidays? Well taking my own advice I decided to update my TDEE chart so for at least 6-8 weeks I will be keeping a close eye on intake and the scale (I also note weekly running mileage which the chart does not account for). I haven't updated really since 2017/18 timeframe and my running has increased a lot so it will be interesting to get some good data. Knowing that the data needs to be clean helps me to stay on track.7 -
5 pass days taken - my neck is so bad I am trying to get an appointment to check it out8

@Mrs_Hoffer You are amazing! You put so much work into this group and are always there to cheer us on, and now you’re poorly but you keep going! Thankyou for all your hard work.
My plans for the next two/three weeks include time with family and friends (fingers crossed that the virus allows it to happen).
I’m spending this weekend with my daughter – we’re taking the children to the theatre and then dinner, I’m staying overnight and into Sunday. Similarly, I’m spending Christmas weekend with her – taking my mum this time. On December 30th I’m off to spend 3 nights away with friends. New Year’s Eve is the highlight but I think the whole 3/4 days will include much eating and drinking.
Between these specific occasions I expect there will be other temptations. I’m in good shape for it and will enjoy all the fun times. I know I don’t have to eat all the treats and go to bed every night feeling uncomfortably full, but I intend to enjoy some delicious food. On quiet days I will do lots of exercise and eat sensibly. If the weather allows I shall get out for a walk every day.

PS I will practice saying “Not for me thanks”, or “just half a slice please”.9
-
@Mrs_Hoffer - hope you feel better soon. You are the reason our group is still active and we appreciate all you’ve done.
My strategy is to keep reminding myself how proud (and flabbergasted) I’ll be WHEN I end December in the winners circle!
Last night was an unplanned and slightly funny strategy. We ate at a swanky restaurant last night prior to a concert. The PRICES kept me from overeating! My entree was delicious, but there was no appetizer and no dessert. I chose wisely and ate slow.12 -

You are amazing. We very happy and blessed to have you.
Please take care of yourself.
To answer your questions...
1) what are your plans for the upcoming holiday; and
2) how do you plan to stay on track through the end of the year
I planned to consciously spend this holiday with family members. I lost 2 close ones between Nov 25 and Dec 13
I want to consciously, gracefully, and gratefully enjoy everyone I see this holiday.
As for staying on track, eat sensibly, and workout normally. Keep the UAC rules as much as possible.
These are the truths I tell myself during holidays and weekends. When I stick to these, I always have a wonderful holiday or celebration.- Food is my body fuel. Food is made for my body not my body for food. Gasoline is made for cars not cars for gasoline.
- My body is too precious and too expensive to put any type of fuel. Just like you will put the premium fuel in BMW, Mercedes, etc.
- Nobody over fuel their expensive cars. Therefore, no overeating and getting sick, guilty etc., the next day for me. I do not need to be "drunk" of food
- My goal in life is not to make pharmaceutical companies/ or big food merchants rich at my expense.
As for "food pushers", these are some of my readymade responses depending on the location and the people I am interacting with...- I will pass
- No thank you.
- I am allergy to overeating
- I am allergy to (fill in the blank) that is used for that (fill in the blank)
- It's too late for me to eat.
- Pack it for me
- Will you share with me?
- A quarter of that should be enough for me
- I am very full. Thank you.
My list is different for each occasion7 -

3 pass days used
Today's exercise was an upper body strength routine with dumbbells
Our plans for the upcoming holidays are to enjoy them as much as possible and stay sane. 🤪
As for staying on track for the rest of the year, I doubt this will make much sense, but my goal is just to not go way off track. With how hectic things will become I might not be able to weigh, track, or heaven knows what. But my mindset is to not let anything be a reason to "go hog wild" as so eloquently mentioned in a prior post from a couple weeks back. I'm not too concerned about that happening. I would not be surprised to have more pass days though simply due to constraints preventing 3 checks from being possible. I'm already fine with that, and as hopeful as possible that I can come out of it with no additional pass days (but 3 have already happened just last weekend). I won't say something like, "I will go the rest of the year with no more pass days AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!" because I suspect the universe may take that as a challenge, so I prefer to just say, "pass days can happen, so what?". I'm not challenging the universe to put up or shut up.5 -
✅ - Exercise 20+ Minutes: 72 minutes, walking/dancing/flex

2️⃣ Pass Days left
1) Plans for the upcoming holiday:-
🔹Spend as much time as possible with my family. We are all triple jabbed.
🔹Do lateral flow tests, eg, on Christmas Morning before getting together for Christmas dinner.
2) My plan to stay on track through the end of the year:-
🔹Stick with my current Daily Habits.
🔹 Do extra exercise 18 - 24 Dec, and bank the calories against Christmas weekend festive eating
🔹Stay under my weekly goal from 25 - 31 Dec.
🔹Keep festive eating within reasonable limits, ie, small portions of festive treats.
These practices have worked well for me over the last 2 year ends, with minimal weight gain which was quickly lost again.

Thank you @Mrs_Hoffer for everything that you do for this group. Sorry you haven’t been feeling 100% this month. Hope you feel better soon.
As for my plans the rest of this year. I’ll be away with husband’s family for a week. I need to plan some coping strategies to avoid the constant snacking and big meals. Sadly they are a trigger for me and I really need to work on this. I do plan on going out for runs and long walks. If space allows I’ll do yoga in our room. Then the following week we will be in Spain, pending restrictions. I plan to go to the gym most mornings and keep meals reasonable. The weather is warmer so it will be easier to eat light. I will also be using my hands as reminders of correct portions.
✅ calories - ended up at a Chinese place (not my choice) for dinner but only got steamed rice, tofu and vegetables. My covid jab increase my appetite the day I had it but for the last two days my appetite has been really low. I’m not complaining!
✅ exercise - lots of waking today
✅ tracking7 -
@Mrs_Hoffer a big thank you for taking on the UAC task where would we be without it and a big shout out to all those who comment and volunteer their time THANKS!!
To answer your question keep exercising keep tracking and I have reduced sweets that I usually bake without them there is no temptation and honestly I do not miss them at the moment.

Holiday Plans: My family is in CA, I’d planned to go back but the Covid situation will probably keep me here in UT. Can’t ski due to rehab. So plans A & B are out the window :-). I’ll continue long walks as well as get togethers with friends. Whatever I end up doing my intention is to be present and appreciate the sights, sounds and gifts winter brings here in the Rocky Mountains that I love so much.
Staying on Track: I’ve actually not gone over my targeted calories in the two months I’ve been on MFP. But the temptations are growing. Right now I’m negotiating with myself on whether to cheat and/or go over a couple of days or stay on track. Since I’m the semi-obsessed type I’ll probably stay on track. My best approach so far, which I hope to continue, has been to plan meals so by mealtime healthy and proper is already in motion. Same as to snacks.
Best of luck to everyone in finding their own rhythm during the holidays.6 -
Pass Day 4. Ugh, have been on the couch all day with flu like symptoms after getting the Pfizer booster yesterday. Temp 100.4, achy all over, feeling weak, slight headache. Hoping I feel a whole lot better by tomorrow! 🤒10

Pass Days Used: 3/3
This will be the first year that my family won't be getting together to bake cookies together. I didn't get it planned early enough and everyone just has too much going on now. I'm not really too upset, because I can't afford to eat any cookies, and since it's at my house, I usually end up doing most of the clean-up. I'm just not up to it this year.
For Christmas, we're driving 4 hours to western PA to visit my hubby's family for Christmas. We'll stay for the weekend and come home on Monday. My sister is going with us this year as it's her first Christmas without her husband (who passed away in June). She doesn't want to be alone for Christmas.
As I begin to feel better, I want to get back to my daily walks outside as much as possible. I also need to get back to pre-logging.
@slimtastesbetter I hope you feel better soon..... I know that's miserable.9 -
@Slimpossible007 — your neck sounds so painful. I hope that you are able to get in for an appointment quickly and get some real relief.
@mrs_hoffer I am so grateful for you — your work and dedication keeps our challenge running ♥️ I am so glad that you are coming out of the woods from this extended period of illness. I hope that you can get get back outside for your walks. I know how I you love them and they are such special times for you.
@victorious55 I am so very sorry for the losses you and your family have experienced over such a short period of time. My heart goes out to you. 💛 Your strategies and your intentions are so powerful and have helped me think more about how I’ll handle the holidays. Thank you 🎄
@biketheworld You WILL end December in the Winners’ Circle! Your determination and resolve is palpable! 🌟
@arc2arc Aha! You are in Utah. We lived in Banff Alberta for 7 years and I loved being in the Rocky Mountains every day. I hope your rehab continues to progress well. 🥰
@slimtastesbetter I am so sorry that you are suffering through the response to the booster. Take good care of yourself as your immunity builds. 🤒

I'm going to visit my family for the Holidays. It's going to be a long trip so I'm going to try my best to stay on track as much as possible. I'll make the best choices I can but I know there will be some days that I'm just going to enjoy and not stress about it. I just gotta keep in mind to not over do it. 😁

My plans for the upcoming holiday:
We are being very open to the absence of firm plans, and a definite change to our “normal” holiday traditions this year. Our daughter’s partner’s sister is very ill. We’ve been saying “do whatever you need to do” to Katie, James, and his parents for the past month (James normally spends Christmas holidays with us). 💔
Arrival and departure dates, confirmed meal dates and times, and every one of our many traditions will be as they will. It will all work out to ensure the most important thing: that everyone feels they have done all they can to be at peace.
How do I plan to stay on track through the end of the year?
With this situation, I am less focused on the food and more focused on how to keep calm, help my family know they are loved and supported, and help everyone to be as healthy as we can be through this. I have treats and everyone’s favourites prepared or purchased and they will all be given away once Katie/James leave.
I am keeping up with my exercise and tracking every day and will through the end of the year. There will be treats, special dishes, wine, and they will be all recorded. ✅

Tracking 🌟
Calories 🌟 Under - the fasting for lipid testing caused me to not eat until noon. So that caused a gap….
Exercise 🌟 Walking on the treadmill and met with the exercise physiologist this morning to get a new core routine. I did the routine again tonight. 🤩 I hope I can walk tomorrow.

Track: yes
Calories: yes
Exercise: yes- Full body warm up 5 min
- Day 5 of EPIC II - The Slow Bur full body workout (+ cool down) 65 min
Plans for the holidays are quite light. Normally we go to the house of my partners sister for Christmas (I have no family here) but they have a multi-family living situation and a couple of them are down with covid so we have no intention of going there this year. Today we decided we'd go the the very high end grocery store and get prime ribeye steaks and fully loaded (baked) potatoes for Christmas. For Christmas Eve we'll go with some type of charcuterie board. I should be able to stay within my calories limits these two days with a little extra time spent on the treadmill or walking the neighborhood.
As far as staying on track I don't foresee any issues. We had planned to go out of town with some friends on NYE but we already cancelled since we were concerned about omicron. We may still get together with these friends on NYE but they are relatively light eaters (neither are overweight) so I don't anticipate any issues if we decide to stick with these modified plans.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 30 minutes on the Peloton and 10 minutes of arm strength
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Pass days used - 1/3 (Dec 3)
Plans for the holidays:
My company is closed between Christmas and New Year's but I work in a very operational based role that requires coverage every day. So, I am on call the 25th to 27th, working the 29th-31st, and then I'm off for a stretch from Jan 1-6.
On Christmas Eve, we are doing appetizers and such at my Mom's house.
Christmas Day will be turkey dinner.
Boxing Day is a very small gathering with two other couples.
New Year's Eve my husband is doing surf and turf for us.
Jan 1-5 we are driving to Manitoba and back to visit my Dad.
Before the month really kicked off I sat down and pre-planned days I was going to eat at maintenance vs. deficit. I am 0.6 pounds lighter today than my original plan for the month, so things are on track so far.
@Mrs_Hoffer
Please continue to rest up and be kind to your healing body.... lots of looking after precious you time!!
