Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 68 minutes of walking in the sunshine over two walks which was very good for the soul
@Mrs_Hoffer I got a Garmin watch for Christmas so I don't track on Map My Walk anymore but I enjoy seeing yours! Your comment about Vitamin D was so spot on.. I felt replenished.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Pass days used - 3/3
My husband and I are doing a fun event on the Peloton tomorrow called the PeloFondo. We are both going for new distance records... it'll be fun to see how we do!
I think my biggest January struggle if I have one right now is just feeling really busy with work and finding it takes more mental effort to look after myself outside of that. I have established the habits that are getting me through and there's been no impact to progress, but it's taking a bit more mental energy to get there.
I'm happy I've got my habits so I can kinda just work the plan.4 -

How is it going for you?
I am currently very enthusiastic about my changes in lifestyle, still probably in the ¨honeymoon phase¨ of retirement, seeking all the ways to enjoy my life and make these healthy changes fun. It has not been difficult, I haven´t struggled with emotional eating or cravings for several months. Personally, I suspect that it is the combination of not having chronic stressors in my life at the moment and because I am basically off of processed foods.
What strategies are you implementing to make the rest of January awesome?
I have taken up hobbies of healthy cooking, indoor gardening, growing sprouts, brewing kombucha, and now have ordered the supplies to begin making my own yogurt. (I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCG73IU94d8&ab_channel=TheIHMC very exciting. As much as a nerd that I am about the gut microbiome, I was not aware that homemade yogurt can have so much more beneficial bacteria than what you can buy in a store, nor the details of the benefits of l. reuteri.)2 -

I'm 3 for 3 today, checkin those boxes!
2/3 pass days used.
I got my new cushy walk/run shoes today! I wore them around the house for awhile to start breaking them in. I have a walk date with a local group in the morning and look forward to taking the new hooves out for their first real spin.
I'm ready to start a very gentle couch-to-5k program next week. Tweaking my schedule to try some new stuff. phew and woo!

Love the opener today. I've been losing weight for about 10 years. With patches of maintenance. Having kids definitely didn't help. It's only the last few years that I've really come to accept that I'm fighting against a lifetime of bad habits. It's ok that I'm not always perfect. Childhood obesity is very hard to work against. I spent about 20 years being obese and the fact that the last 10 years I've spent most of my time slightly overweight rather than obese is a huge victory and I should be really proud. This *kitten* is hard guys. I'd say it's even harder than quitting smoking or something. You have to eat every day so you're constantly battling your demons.
I've been a bit terrible at posting.
I'll assume it's been 3 days

Exercise - 15 minutes MommaStrong, 30 minutes super slow walk with my 5 year old

I was pretty proud of how I made takeout Fri fit within the usual weekend calories (I do a bit lower M-Th and higher F-Sun). I have decided I am allowed to preplan an extra high calorie "takeout Friday" up to once a week, but lately I have been not wanting to and have been trying to fit takeout into the regular calories. This week's experiment was Mexican food. As my wife went to get the takeout, I made myself a base of salad with lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, lime juice, chicken. Then from the takeout I added black beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Measured/weighed it all. I actually left some calories for tortilla chips too, but they forgot to include that in our order, which was for the best. I am going to have that salad again today for lunch. It was delicious and satisfying.
@MadisonMolly2017 thank you for your opener. There are a few people in this group who since I started have pretty much always posted success every day, and I start to wonder why they still see the need to be in the group. You have been one of those people. And I don't wish a slip on anyone, but it is inspiring to me, who struggles more constantly, to see you also struggle but to see you struggle so gracefully that it really is beautiful.
I add to all your thoughts about the relapsing disease that the world is just built for weight gain - and we're kind of swimming upstream here. That's why this support is so key.
Thank you all.3 -

Thank you @Caroline_slowandsteady for your compassionate thoughts.
I’ve seen so many on here & on Noom who were doing great & then gained it all back. Sobering to say the least.
Plus, I’ve regained it all back (usually immediately) every time I lost my weight over 40-45 years.
I have kept posting here & on NOOM for years …. just for times like these!!!!!! I have to keep it in my mind.
I’m Focusing right now on getting back to weighing & tracking all my food to the gram.
I had that yesterday…until I fell asleep (a very late nap) and when I woke up went down to the kitchen (mistake #1), got out the unsalted nuts (mistake #2) and a small piece dark chocolate (mistake #3), and ate them - unweighed (mistake #4).
SO. Yes I’m up against a a lifetime of my parents bad habits & then mine.
And I have basically been in lockdown since my transplant 50 months ago. It’s getting increasingly difficult to be so isolated.
SO, today, I am measuring out a bunch of nuts & a piece of chocolate for tonight. Logging it now. I am placing that AND two washed tangerines in a container & when I go upstairs tonight I will take it with me. (My plan yesterday- which I completely forgot- was to eat only fruit after dinner.) Even thought of taking a tangerine upstairs last night, but I wasn’t hungry.
I know that the after dinner eating is NOT hunger. But it needs to be tracked. By pre-logging it, I’ll at least get my calories under control & then can work on the timing of my food to support maintenance & weight loss.
Thank you again. Your message - and those of so many of the rest of you - really helped.
This is the 2nd time in 3y5m I’ve had to really work at turning the scale around. I need to reframe that in my mind as Success, not Failure.
Thank you

Ashley @ashleycarole86 I wondered why I hadn't been seeing your walks. I thought perhaps it was still so cold that you weren't walking much outside. I'm glad you're liking your new Garmin watch though. Perhaps when my fitbit dies, I'll look into one of those instead.1 -

Thank you so much @lesdarts180 !
You inspire me daily.
By shining the light on it, I bring it into the open & find the resolve to change a couple of things. Much better now, thankfully. This seems to be the secret of maintenance to me: forthrightly & honestly noticing what is happening.
Thanks again,

@MadisonMolly2017 An interesting concept. Not 100% sure about the efficacy of classifying obesity as a disease.
In my view, it’s more of a consequence of living in a society where unhealthy fast food is constantly pushed at us 24/7 by big business, for profit, and where many people succumb to these pressures because they are time poor due of the demands of modern life.
I did not have a disease. I became obese because I ate far too much. My diet and lifestyle choices had a direct impact on my health, I wanted to change that.
Once I stopped and examined my eating habits, and gradually changed them (a long and somewhat difficult process) I lost the weight. I am maintaining my current habits because nothing tastes as good as a fit/healthy life.
I know that this is not the case for all of us, but it is my story.
UAC is helping us to change our habits for the better.
🥳 Congrats 🥳 to those with 3 x yes

@TerriRichardson112
Each of us finds what works for us!
I know it’s different for those of us with obese parents vs healthy, weight gain in childhood/adolescence vs adulthood vs senior years, etc.,
I find thinking of it as a “chronic relapsing disease” keeps me vigilant & you know I’m wildly enthusiastic about habit formation & reformulation as the only way to maintain in the long run.
I see many who begin to regain at 3 years & another wave at 5 years. So I’m keeping on top of this!
We each get to carve our own path
Best,
Maddie
