“The goal is not to win the game or competition, the goal is to become a person who practices everyday.”- James Clear
Hello, UAC family.
Today’s post is birth out of Fitbit Workweek Hustle Challenge experience. I was having a piss poor week overall, and really needed some kind of “win”. I was trailing behind in a 3 way competition of the most steps wins. So I calculated the steps needed in order to pull ahead/make up for lost time and win the challenge.
Well I made my goal and the person who was consistent the entire week, lost and I came out on top in the end “won” a challenge.
But did I really? It was bittersweet. I had a record breaking day. I realized the drive and the power to make up my mind and finish what I’ve started is there. I just needed to spread out it so I don’t feel like I cheated someone out of their victory and exercise good sportsmanship.
I won a battle, but I want to win the war of consistency and discipline. The person who shows up everyday is really the champion.
So if you’re reading this post congrats! Keep striving to be a better version of your everyday.

Hmmm - to answer the above question - I would like to think that there were a few ways that I helped my daughters today, especially in preparation for the commencement of for one high school and the return to high school for the other. We also do a Gratitude Journal entry each night at dinner, which hopefully helps encourage us all to see the great things we have going on.12 -
what a sweet opener

Honestly one of the reasons I hang out on MFP is the community. Now some groups are tougher than others but this one and my running group are very supportive. I will be in maintenance 5 yrs come Oct. Without the give and take of the folks here it would be a lot tougher for sure. I think everyone has something to contribute and which we can learn from no matter where they are. From the very young to the very old (me included there) from the folks losing to the folks maintaining. After all we are like the 3 blond men and the elephant right.8 -
ummmmm three BLIND men and the elephant? 🐘👨🦯👨🦯👨🦯 ( i and o are right beside each other on the tiddy-wee tablet and phone keyboards) and I agree with the point for SURE! Different people focusing on different elements of the VERY big picture.
How does one EAT an elephant (digest sooooo much information)? One little bite at a time.😸 (don't want to go over daily allotted calories and have to use a pass day after all 😼 )9 -
@StayFITTer I have done the same thing a few times with Garmin step challenges. I'm going to add that James Clear quote to my affirmation list. I like how you worded this, too:StayFITTer wrote: »I want to win the war of consistency and discipline. The person who shows up everyday is really the champion.
Reflection: Each day I'm logging in on the community platform here and truly receive as much encouragement as I give. I try to post a couple times a week to a women's accountability group I'm in to check in and encourage others. Like @SummerSkier I get a lot out of the MFP community (and P.S. wow, 5 years in maintenance - congratulations!). I'll come back later and log my 3 tasks!8 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Habits to maintain this month:
Kitchen Closed? Yes
Did you go "nuts" with nuts today? No (23 days -free)
Within Sugar macro today? Yes (13 day)
Pass day 2/3 (this is for accountability to myself and my records).
Like @SummerSkier, one of the reason I come here everyday is to give and be a blessing. I have been so encouraged by others in this journey that I think that is the least I can do - give what I have been given.
I also learned from everyone here. A little here, a little there. Having co-maintenance UACers around also helps.9 -
@StayFITTer "I won a battle, but I want to win the war of consistency and discipline. The person who shows up everyday is really the champion."
Thank you. You have said it very clear
Winning the war of consistency and discipline is what this health journey is all about. By consistency and discipline, we lose weight, by consistency and discipline we maintain our weight. By consistency and discipline we form good habits to replace bad habits.12 -

Interesting opener @StayFITTer, it’s a different take on “winning”. I can remember telling my children that it didn’t matter whether they won, just taking part and doing their best is what mattered. And now, I tell my grandchildren that enjoying the game/match/challenge is what counts. But secretly, we all want to win, don’t we? And we want our children to be the best?

I live alone and have very little interaction with other people on a daily basis in real life but I hope I support and encourage others on these threads. I hope I encourage and help my daughter and my mum from time to time. I hope I have been a support and help to my DIL but she’s away in the States now, and not keeping in touch.
I have received so much support and encouragement from others in this group over the last 12 months. I feel a if I have a group of friends here and look forward to checking in keeping in touch.
I can’t say that “tomorrow I will be better than I am today” but I can try.

as expected … pass day
i walked in the airport for about 30 mins (watch only recorded 26 mins) and logged my food so far but it’s apparent any more food will put me over and it’s early still. i’m also limited to one coffee shop place for food because my flight arrived six!!! hours before my partner will arrive. i had hoped there would be better choices.11 -

Pass day #6
I truly wish I could have found this group back in 2007, but alas it did not exist then. I could have benefitted from it after starting MFP in 2014 as well but was laser focused on running. I only found it in 2021, and have learned a lot in just that first year here.
I feel I have learned so much from so many here on MFP since 2014 and feel I owe so many accomplishments to advice received that I truly enjoy any and all opportunities to return that favor. I probably come across as very wordy at times, and I strive to never seem preachy about anything, but I look very forward to helping anyone along in any way I can. The community here on MFP is the best, no joke. Thanks to all who have helped me along the way.8 -

I have many days where my interactions with people beyond my husband are only online: either by a forum, Facebook, or my daily Spanish lessons by Zoom. I have posted things to try to encourage others today as well received a lot of encouragement myself.4 -

Over on pass days.
I’m fortunate to have enough free time to get involved with a couple of terrific charities. One of them is about children and the other animals. I used to do hands-on with both but these days I help with fundraising and business functions. So if dealing with emails for both charities qualifies as helping that would be my today contribution.
I’m really appreciative of the level of empathy and compassion that exists in this group. You guys rock!6 -

I was supportive in some of my MFP groups today, and took some extra time to check in with some specific people. I was a supportive coworker and boss. I gave my Mom encouragement this morning. It's a good reminder to try to give support to others whenever we can as I rely so much on the support I receive back. Having a sense of community is huge for me!9 -
I'm yes for all three today. I skipped lunch and then had a big sushi and chicken katsu dinner. nomz.
2/3 pass days this month so far.
I really want some cake. I think I have to make cake happen for me this weekend. Because... cake.
