@metaphysicalstudio great weigh-in! I'm liking Noom so far, but not every single aspect/feature. The app itself is not great for logging food/exercises/calories because all of the "insert data" buttons are on a scroll as opposed to just letting you type in a number. The readings and insights have been the most helpful part so far - confirmation of things I knew, busting weight loss myths, etc. Still getting the hang of the color system, and some foods are surprising.
@ashleycarole86 I had to google "chinooks" hahaha - love learning new words, especially ones having to do with weather!
@AshenMoon - another nice weigh-in! I am also looking forward to the Super Bowl but trying to plan some healthier treat-like snacks. One of my friends is on strict keto right now so we will definitely avoid carby things. I'm thinking a charcuterie board and something baked, like a zucchini bread.
@PlaneMonkey love the pic, your cat looks a lot like my family's cat. I also can't work when I'm at my parents' house because she will just scoot her butt onto my laptop and look at me like I'm being the weird one.6 -
@PlaneMonkey great weigh-in and thanks for the encouragement.
Brad and I got out for a lunchtime walk and it feels like early spring. I do love the sunshine!
Adorable cat.2 -
Happy Hump Day, Friends!
Well I was due to go out for a forest walk with my friend this morning, but I woke up in agonising pain in my back - AGAIN! Fortunately, although I couldn't go for my walk, my back pain wasn't as bad as it was a fortnight ago, and I was able to (slowly) move around and do what I planned to do anyway. Having said that, I think that I need to take a break from my workout schedule and replace it with walking and yoga for the rest of the month. I did work out on Monday and Tuesday - and maybe I shouldn't have.
Thank you @PlaneMonkey, the picture of your cat did cheer me up! In fact, I love seeing other furry friends, they always make me smile.
We plan to visit our son in Virginia in the summer, so we won't even be thinking of getting another dog until after we're back.
@metaphysicalstudio My morning meditations have become such a wonderful habit with which to start my days.
@conleywoods I'm so sorry to hear about all the stress that you and your hubby are going through. It's s good that you're both so well aligned to supporting each other. Thinking of you.
@jugar so can I start telling people that I know the famous flautist Liselyn (only first names necessary, don't you know)? What exciting news!
Hang in there, Michele @micki48 try not to get too overwhelmed with all the things. Work in 20minute bursts, then take 5 and repeat.
Sleep tight, friends!

What a lovely day - the news, the weigh-ins, and we also had a sunny not too cold one. I finally had to replace my old microwave today. I have been using a small one I "inherited" from my step-grandmother back in the 1980s. It lasted a very very long time, but finally bit the dust over the weekend. I hope we can figure out this fancy newfangled gadget! Finding room for it is the first challenge - I decided to go with something that is bigger than a bread box. So it was errand Wednesday, and then working on my window salad garden, practicing, and hitting the Pilates. Sadly I fell victim to some peanut M&Ms (one of the very few uses on this Earth for chocolate) but otherwise food has been good so far this week and I am losing what I put on last week.
I hope your back recovers well @YinxFed - you may need to revise your workouts for a while. Switch to Pilates or other work without weights and twisting, or just rest and enjoy walking for a couple of weeks. You don't want to mess with back injuries
I'm also thinking about your mornings @ashleycarole86 . I never understand why sometimes it is easy to get up and get to it in the morning, and sometimes it isn't. For a few years I instituted a "no sweat, no shower" rule and made sure to get in an exercise session before showering and going to work. If I did not get up and exercise, I had to go to work without a shower. That happened sometimes, but avoiding that made it easier to get the exercise over with and enjoy my day. Now that I don't work, I'm WAY less consistent with timing of exercise!
Amazing green numbers today! Keep 'em coming!2 -
OK I am going to pose 2 questions. I need suggestions. My boyfriend has got on board with weight loss. I am having trouble packing his lunch. He works for the power company and is in a truck all day. No refrigeration and no microwave. I've tried soups in a thermos but sometimes it's 8 hours before he can eat and even the fanciest of thermos' keep it hot enough for him. Any suggestions?
Also the Super Bowl is Sunday. What's everyone eating for the big game?2 -
We are having a Super Bowl party at work. There will be wings and finger sandwiches. Everyone has agreed to bring 3 things for a salad bar. I know a salad is not typical game day food but I will feel a lot better about eating that then wings and chips and dips.3

Great questions @kdblpn
For food that does not need to be hot for lunches - how does hubs feel about hummus? There are tons of great varieties, and they all go well with raw veggies of every kind, rice cakes or crackers, etc. It is surprisingly filling too. Cheese sticks, low fat jerky, and other proteins that don't need refrigeration can help. There are some good canned tuna with all kinds of stuff mixed in so all you need to do is open it and scoop it up with veggies or pita or something. Stuff a whole pepper with mashed up chickpeas with finely chopped veggies, a tad of mayo or something else smooth (hummus again?) stuffed into a whole red pepper. I'm not sure what he likes, but there are sure to be some great suggestions from this gang.
I'm not a super bowl person, but I'd go with veggies and hummus again! You can munch on those for ages without getting that horrible overstuffed feeling. Even some other kinds of dips are not so bad if you're dipping broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, celery, cucumbers, carrots, and any other kind of veggie into them. There are some good sounding ideas at https://iheartvegetables.com/healthy-snacks-under-200-calories/ I'm sure you'll make a great plan for all kinds of things that will keep the chips and wings at a safe distance!4 -
Hi! Thanks for the encouragement friends. Hugs to all those struggling and healing vibes to those hurting.
Hope everyone had a great day.4 -

You're the best! When you move, the step/exercise team is going to have to make enough miles to get from North Carolina to Philadelphia. Let us know the actual distance from your current home to the new one, and then we'll work hard to make it - I think it would be a blast to take just the right number of steps to arrive right along with you4 -

It has got to be the weekend by now, surely? This week is dragging it's feet worse than me after a 100m sprint.
The view out of the window is positively spring like, but my phone tells me it's a cold one. I should manage a walk this lunch time so I will wrap up warm, and I have another run planned for after work, but then I'm going to give myself a day or two off the running. My energy levels are still poor though I think that's largely due to eating all the wrong things and not drinking enough water - my weight this morning is back to the start of the year so I'm going to knuckle down for a couple of days and the cravings/hunger will subside.
Last night I booked flights to Dubai to see family after debating the cost for a few weeks. I think this will be my last trip out for a couple of years so I bit the bullet. I will be journeying alone which is a first for me and I'm a bit nervous about that. I don't mind travelling solo by car, but by plane feels weird. There's also all the pre-flight PCR test hassle (and cost!) to deal with too. The trip is 3 weeks today anyway, so not long to stress about it! My focus between now and then is getting my energy levels back up so I can enjoy myself - that means getting a good balance between exercise, productivity and rest, eating well and drinking plenty!5 -
@DD265 A trip to Dubai sounds amazing. One of my bucket list trips for sure. I can imagine all the pre flight testing is a hassle but I am sure it will be worth it. Have a great trip.
@jugar I only recently discovered hummus. It is amazing. My favorite to dip in it so far is cucumbers. I am trying to get him to try that but no luck yet. He does however love tuna. Since I am not a tuna person I had not even thought about that. Thank you so much for the ideas.
I see a few people are having some struggles. I had some in January and I understand it. Mine was health related and I know how stressful it can be. Just take it a day at a time and don't beat yourself up. Life is to short to sweat the small stuff and the big stuff will eventually become small stuff. Sending hugs all around.7 -

Awwww! That made me cry a little! Knowing you’d all be there with me in spirit. The support is definitely uplifting.
The miles door to door are 477. That would be fun!
Up real early. Not sleeping great. Mind racing. Taking advantage of those quiet minutes before Juliet arrives and the day zips.

Hello everyone
Well well! I did some good things this week for which I should give myself a pat in the back: I was very active, found various ways to lower my level of stress which is directly connected to my food intake.
I have also done some bad things for which I should give myself a big kick up the backside, such as eating too much yet again.
I am looking forward to regain self control of my hunger.
My stats:
Wednesday:swim 45/yoga 30
Thursday:yoga 30
Friday:4 hours of skiing in the powder
Saturday and Sunday : 30 min yoga
Monday Swim45
Tuesday swim 45, Riding 60 min,
Wednesday : nada

Yep. When my doctor finally told me I had to get with it about my weight, we were discussing my diet. I told her at the time, "First, I eat well. Then I eat badly." That still sometimes happens - a great meal, well within all the wonderful guidelines, followed by some trigger food that I can't stop eating. It used to happen a lot more, but it is still there hovering, waiting for me just to buy the things. Don't buy the things.
For both you and @mmarceau2 One perfect day. It still works. I know both of you have kids in the house so "not buying the things" is almost impossible. I had the same problem 10 years ago when I was losing the weight - my kids were teens and ate ALL the things. But I made my son the police. I identified the things I really did not want to eat. He kept an eye on the supply, and gave me all kinds of grief (luckily hilarious) when I transgressed my own rules. He is a good tease, with creative vocabulary. Sass is a good enemy of snacking!
I'm sure others have strategies to try - they're always welcome!5
