How do the main roles that define you (whether that’s your occupation, caregiver or parental obligations, retirement activities, etc.) impact your health journey? What are the positives, and what are the negatives? What strategies do you use in your daily life to work around and within the roles you occupy?4 -

It has only been since I decided to retire that I really realized just how sedentary my job doing psychotherapy was compared to any other roles in my life. Between the sedentary nature of it and the stress, I now see how inherently unhealthy my career was inspite of some efforts at self care.
Now that I am not actively parenting nor working a job, I am building a new and very healthy retirement lifestyle of exercise, activity, gardening and cooking healthy foods. It is so amazingly low stress compared to what I had gotten accustomed to as ¨normal¨ for years. So honestly my strategies have just been researching and exploring how all these hobbies fit together to make a healthy lifestyle that gives me joy. Easiest problem solving I have ever done in my life.

My FT job is a desk job, so I sit alot. My PT job is as a massage therapist, so I do get a little exercise! Lol. My children are grown, so my exercise has to be intentional or it won't happen. I also have to do it early in the day, or I'm way too tired and worn out!3 -

Walked the pup during what felt like a blizzard. ❄️🌨🌬 We looked like abominable snowwoman and her dog when got home after only 30 minutes in it. Got in 45 minutes on the treadmill tonight while attending an online “companion gardening” program.
Everything tracked; used some of my exercise calories to enjoy a carrot cake cupcake. It was amazing and arrived for our dessert (which we never have). It was made and delivered by one of my husband’s university students (her graduation recital was the other night). Oh my. 🥰

Another pass day due to no exercise as the majority of our belongings including my exercise equipment were loaded on a truck yesterday and a lot of my recent exercise has been packing/purging which gave me 10-15k steps everyday which is way more than I typically get even with 20-30 mins on the treadmill. I need to come up with a plan for the next week though as the truck won't arrive until sometime next week and then there is the pesky task of putting the treadmill back together and finding my weights and other equipment. Fingers are crossed that they don't lose anything.
My primary roles are retiree (best job ever!) and mate to my wonderful partner. Neither of these impact my health goals. I have a supportive partner. Whenever I want to make a change to our dietary choices or go alcohol free for a period of time he's always on board and does it with me. Being retired allows the time to exercise and cook in a healthy manner.
My secondary role as a traveler is the one that does me in because when I'm in new places I want to sample the local food and drink. While I've attempted to create strategies around this (sharing plates with my partner, choosing lower calorie options, walking many miles a day, etc) they tend to not last the duration of the trip. Something I need to work on.7 -

Main roles:
Manager at my office job: this is a very sedentary and stressful part of my day. The income gives me the ability to fully enjoy my healthy hobbies, but the job itself is something I have to strategize around to stay healthy.
Wife: my husband is on a similar journey to me, so he is a lot of support at home. He also does calorie counting, has similar exercise goals, and this shared accountability is super helpful.
Dog mom: my little Maltese motivates me to walk every single day. Even if my other exercise would otherwise be enough for me, she motivates me to get outside.

Pass day. More walking than I have done since tracking my steps (so, years). And I did stretch. But in terms of food on my last day of vacation I kind of ran out of motivation to think healthy? And made some very bad choices that were delicious. On my way home today and tomorrow back on track.2

withdrawing from this challenge as can't keep it together "food wise".
But have been successful because this challenge has helped me re start daily exercising.

Oh gosh, I sure hope that you don't withdraw @Lynn__W ! We all have times where we struggle (I'm currently struggling as well!) but I truly believe that the key is to not give up!! It's great having you here....4 -

So happy to see so many champions still here! I find that this group really helps esp when I am struggling. As far as primary roles - I think I am the classic cat lady. LOL. When I had a partner it was a lot harder to put my health as a priority. (please stay in bed and don't get up early to run....) And I think with kids and a partner it would complicate things even more.
@Mrs_Hoffer still hoping that all turns out well for your son.

Thanks bON @SummerSkier . My son and his wife looked at a place yesterday that they like. They were up front with the guy about my son's work situation. The man asked that they email my DIL's paycheck stubs to him, and also get a letter from Tony's employer that he DOES still have a job, and how much he makes per hour, etc.... that, and the fact that I'm going to go ahead and co-sign for them.... and I think that they MAY have a place. It's not official yet - so thanks for your ongoing prayers.6
