HOW IT ALL WORKS: The May challenge runs from May 1 - 28. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:

If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for longer. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.

Hi, my names Amanda. I'm an Accoutant in Janesville, WI (but I live in IL). I have 2 kids that I had with my high school sweetheart who I married on 05/17/15. Weight has been a constant struggle for me. In 2017 I was diagnosed with Celiac's so I'm on a strict Gluten Free diet. When I get into these diets I can be very good but starting up can be difficult for me. This time around I'm trying to exercise more. I'm hoping to get a new bike this year.

I am a Data Engineer from Edmonton,Alberta ( Canada). I have been obese for the longest time I know. Decided to do something about it.
My biggest short term goal is to run a loop around my house (2.3 Kms), I will get there soon !6 -

My name is Tilly I'm 33 years old, from Israel.
I'm looking forward to losing the weight (once again lol). I've lost weight successfully with MFP in the past, but I've had 5 kids and put on a bit more and a bit more with each pregnancy.
Now my baby is 5 months old and I'm ready to stop looking 4 months pregnant

And I hear that my last one I put on the most weight I’ve ever weight and I felt so low.

Hi - happy to be joining your team! I live in Perth, Western Australia (but originally from Canada).
I am a high school Science teacher, although that's a fairly new gig for me after a 20 year career as a Marine Scientist.
I've got 2 boys (10 + 14), a hubby, a dog, some fish, some stick insects and a whole lotta tarantulas (the latter = not my choice!).
Looking back, I found MFP about 8 years ago and successfully used it to lose a good 15 lbs, and then a program by a UK nutritionist to lose another 5 lb. Being quite short, 20 lbs (8 kg) is a big deal for me and makes a significant impact on how I look and feel.
But the weight has crept back on in a bit of a yo-yo fashion over the years as I've dabbled here and there with various programs etc. So, sigh, I'm literally right back where I started - 8 years later and 8 kg regained.
Based on everything I've looked at and used over the past few years, I do think that MFP is probably the best option as long as I just stick to it in the long term. After my initial success, I slowly stopped logging etc and eventually all my focused hard work was undone. Keen to not only lose the weight but MAINTAIN that loss. I honestly think that's the toughest part, and I appreciate the support of this group going forward.5 -

Not quite where I want it to be. Im hoping to do better in March. My main problem now is the weather. It is getting hot here and I don't like taking out my boys when it gets too warm, so I have to take them first thing in the morning. But honestly I'm still half asleep at that point and our walks aren't as good as they could be.5 -

Happy New Month, Everybody! So happy to see all the new faces in the chat (and the old ones too, not that I'm calling anyone old, I swear)!
I am minstrelofsarcasm, also known as Minstrel, also known as Ashley, also known as "that sweaty girl in the corner"... I am one of the co-captains along with the ever-marvelous @melaniedscott. My role here is to provide some real talk, some good motivation, and a few too many jokes about stress eating for anyone's comfort levels.
The Basics:
I am 26 and currently living in Ohio. I work as a combustion engineer for an industrial manufacturing company (I set things on fire for money). I am fascinated by all facets of science, whether that be nuclear physics, nutrition, geology (I hear it rocks), chemistry, etc. Feel free to ask any of your questions when it comes to the science of things. I can't guarantee I'll know the answer, but I can definitely figure it out and provide an answer in a way that's (hopefully) understandable.
Why I am Here:
I love numbers, and when I discovered that I could get healthier (as my doctor told me I absolutely had to do) by keeping track of numbers, I signed up for MFP. My original weight was 8lbs 2oz, and while I don't think I'll ever make it quite that low ever again, my goal is to never be above my highest weight of 234 (September 2014).
Despite having joined this wonderful community, I didn't take my weight loss or my health seriously until after I graduated college in May 2017 and was told by a different doctor that my eating and (lack of) exercise habits put me on the road to diabetes. I'll admit, I was terrified. I grew up with a diabetic parent who took no actions towards improving their health to reduce their dependence on insulin and is now facing some very serious health complications. I didn't want that to happen to me - I wouldn't want to put anyone through having to worry about me in the same way I worried about them.
So I searched "gym" on Google Maps, and signed up for a free class with the first place that popped up in the results, a spin studio. Since July 1st, 2017, I have completed over 1,000 spin classes.
In other news, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in December 2019 after an arduous journey from doctor to doctor, through several misdiagnoses (why is it that the first thing a doctor will suggest is anxiety if you're female and show emotion in the doctor's office?), 14 vials of blood drawn for blood tests, 3 weeks of being unable to consistently feel the left side of my body, 2 MRIs, 1 spinal tap, and a partridge in a pear tree. I could go into a long rant about everything, and I have, but there's no need to fill my introduction with things I've written time and time again (I'll post a link to my blog, for those of you interested in my madness).
In Summary:
Since joining MFP, I have lost over 70 lbs, regained about 15 while on a three-month business trip in France (wine and cheese is my weakness), lost 5 of them, gained 5 of them, maintained throughout 2020, yo-yo'ed for the first few months of 2021, and here I stand (sit) at 170 lbs, a good 64 net lbs lost. I don't have a goal weight anymore, since BMI was developed by a mathematician and not a doctor, and as long as I feel healthy, I can weigh whatever I want (somewhere in the 150's sounds pretty good right now, but I guess we'll see).
As for exercising, I do regular functional training HIIT classes to build up some resistance training on top of my strong cardio background. I’ve recently left the spin studio for a number of reasons, but may return at some point in the future.

I went to my son's swim meet yesterday and ended up timing - pretty stationary activity even though standing all the time. I loved the atmosphere at the meet. I find it very uplifting that so many kids do get engaged in sports. I hope that will set them up for a better/healthier/ mentally stronger future.
I also finished working on a cardigan - I was testing a pattern for a designer - a VERY stationary activity! I was working on it mainly at weekends and that showed on the step count!
No hike today - we are going to a BD party - my friend turned 50 on Friday. (another stationary day)

Hi, I'm just joining the group and super stoked to get healthier! My name is Tiffani and I'm a 36 year old middle school (grades 6-8) English teacher. I am also a first time mom to a 16 month old boy. He definitely keeps me busy! My hobbies include reading, camping, gardening, and video gaming.
6 years ago I lost about 40lbs meal planning and doing cardio kickboxing 4 days a week. Unfortunately, I got lazy and gained it back over the years, along with a little extra. I would like to lose a total of about 60lbs, but my short term goal is a loss of 25lbs by the end of August (start of the new school year)
☆☆My small goals for this week are to...
~Nutrition=track everything I eat (I need to get a sense of exactly how much I eat as a baseline)
~Exercise= Elliptical 30mins 4x week (I'm also adding in some yoga, but not making it an official goal for this week yet)
~Emotional Wellness= Go to bed each weeknight by 10pm. I stay up late after putting my son to bed and then I'm grumpy the next day. That usually results in not exercising and eating poorly.
Hoping these goals will get me started back on the right track!

Hey hey! I took a break for the last half of April to travel, work on maintenance, and just pause weight loss in general and let my body reset.
It seems to have worked! I got a great mental break and my body seems to have appreciated my maintenance weeks as well.

Hi I’m Jen. I’ve started being a member last month but the month of April wasn’t the best due to having vacation and lots of eating out. I’m afraid to see what I weigh right now but I know we’re all in this journey together. Plus if I get to my normal eating (generally healthier and eating from home) I know I’ll come back to my weight this week.
My goal this month is to reach for 6-8 lb loss. I decided to say this aloud so I can be more intentional about getting my exercise in, eating the right foods and stuff. This month has some changes as I am starting a new job next week in a totally different setting, and working on our new house which we may be able to move into by the end of this month or end of June. Change is hard for me but I’m going to try to exercise to relieve stress. Plus my new job schedule should allow me to workout 🤞🏽 My old job I just came from work ate and slept (10 hr shifts but like 14 hour days).

Getting back to the routine has been a little harder than expected. Weather is getting better, so I am able to do a lot more outdoor activities (bike riding, walks, playing with the kids). I need to get better at getting back on the routine, because that is what works best for me.
