So, while not currently following keto, I have in the past, and is eager to get back to it as I've found it's something I do really well on; getting more energy, less pain(s), better sleep and loosing weight (might of course be some placebo effect, but that still counts as effect). That said - I've got a challenge...
...it's called a boyfriend
For the sake of a good family life, we try to share meals whenever we can, but seeing how we'll be on different diets it may become more hassle than anything else. I don't want to trick him into doing keto (of which he has no interest at all) so that option is off the table (unfortunately), and I prefer if I don't have to cook separate meals.
So since I'm in need of inspiration...:
Anyone having faced a similar situation that would care to share how it was solved?
Recipe / meal suggestions that would allow me to do keto and him to eat non-keto with minimal additions/modifications as well as keeping the meals healthy are especially welcomed!

You can maybe start out by not eating some of the high carb stuff and leave it for your boyfriend instead use low carb substitutes. For example you can cook a bolognese sauce which you could have with courgetti while he eats spaghetti, have burgers you eat it with lettuce, he has it in the bun, make sauces which you can eat with cauliflower rice and he has normal rice. This Is the kind of stuff I do when I cook for family

I formulate my meals around meat and veg and then an optional carb for the kiddos and Hubs. I just eat the low-carb stuff and they have their carbs. Like for example yesterday I made chicken casserole. Sauteed chicken. Then plated the chicken and veg and a couple tbsp of sauce, then continued to assemble the casserole (rice base). I just reheated my plate when it was dinner time.
I make sausage and cabbage. I also make noodles. I sauteed the cabbage in the sausage and it's fat. Then I top the noodles with the mixture for them and just meat and veg for me.
Pretty easy once you get in the habit.2 -
Thank you both for your response
So... basically, discipline not to stuff my face with "his" food is what you're saying..
I can do that (well, to an extent already doing that). Guess, as you say, it's more the habit of doing things that way1 -

Yeah sorry there's no magic solution. To avoid making multiple meals I break it up that way. And the carb stuff isn't MINE. It's THEIRS. I have my own stuff. I get to eat! I season and flavor my plate with cheese or Frank's Red Hot or whatever. I have MY low-carb snacks that I not only "get to eat" but LIKE even! I frame it like this to hack my inner brat, and it helps me.1 -
I get the groceries, and I do the majority of the cooking. I cook keto meals. My wife is happy to have me cook, but she knows I am not a short order cook. I am just not going to make separate meals. It is one of those "don't thump a free melon" things. Sometimes she will nuke a baked potato for one of the children to have with the pot roast and mushrooms I am cooking in the instant pot. This seems like a pretty good arrangement all around. For the sake of solidarity, she is keto but not so strict as I am. I am diabetic and managing my blood glucose with diet and no meds, so she appreciates my commitment to health and wants to be supportive.0
