Leader's Training School Starting Soon! Please read my new comment dated 9/18. Thanks!
Leaders are needed for Fall!
Rain Dancers do not need any but would appreciate a Passenger Service Agent or a couple of Flight Attendants to help cover motivational activities.
Tenacious GR8ters - Passenger Service, or Flight Attendant(s).
Shape Shifters - Need a Captain, Baggage Handler, and a Flight Attendant or 2.
The Summary of duties is posted below in the first comment. Please consider helping out. Some of the best leaders on this challenge were certain they were not leadership material until they tried. Being a team leader takes only a few extra minutes a day, and is a fun and rewarding experience.

Captain: formerly Challenge Leader: Maintains the threads for the weekly challenges, enforces the challenge rules, posts reminders, and announcements, and records the weekly "landings" on the Overall Challenge Workbook.
-Sends team invitations and keeps the manifest updated by Monday of each week, or delegates this task to a co-leader. Signs off on the Manifest when the challenge has ended.
- Enters the team's numbers into the spreadsheet. Posts weekly challenge summary/details on the team page
- Monitors the team's weekly challenge thread to correct reporting errors (for example- if a team member posts more than the daily maximum)
- Signs off in the designated cell of the SS when numbers are finalized each week
- Notifies team of challenge standing, (radar report).
- Seeks clarification or a "ruling" if questions arise about the weekly challenge
- Assists other leaders as needed
Additionally, it generally falls to the Captain to organize planning and set up for each new season.
There will be a backup Flight Attendant in this position in case anything should prevent the Captain from fulfilling their duties.
Baggage Handler: formerly Weigh-in Leader, (WIN): Creates and maintains the thread for weekly weigh-ins, records these on the Google spreadsheet weekly, and posts reminders to weigh in and announcements.
- Sets up Weight Forum
- Tracks team's weekly weights & weight loss.
- Assists other leaders as needed
- Prepares a brief narrative of the weekly losses
This position requires a Flight Attendant as a backup in case anything should prevent the Baggage Handler from completing a challenge.
Passenger Service Agent: formerly Motivational Leader: Creates and holds chat threads, keeps up with the team member's special days like birthdays or other occurrences, and posts announcements. Reads and comments on members' blogs. Please encourage the Flight Attendants to assist with this!
- Sets up and oversees the Chat Room
- Is the team's main cheerleader
- Notifies team about member's B-day, anniversaries, special occasions
- Checks on team members that have dropped off the radar
- Notifies other team leaders when team members need to hear from them
- Optional Team-only challenges and surveys
- Assists other leaders as needed
The above tasks can be delegated between other team co-leaders if agreed upon.
Flight Attendant: formerly Extra Leader: Provides backup to the other team leaders as requested or NEEDED. Reads and comments on members’ blogs, and notifies the other leaders if there is an exceptional blog or if someone needs support. Consider the FA to be a leader in training or an experienced leader with less of a time commitment. Assign specific duties to the FA in addition to this general description.
- Read team member's blogs as time allows and leave comments
- Cheerleader for your team.
- Assists other leaders as requested or needed
- Encourages team members
- Helps keep the team page upbeat
- There can be changes in leadership and our FAs are ready to step in1 -
Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. When I first saw back in 2011 the Spirited Under Dawg team (on Sparkpeople at that time, now known as Positively Strong 4 Life) I was terrified!! I really wasn't sure I could do this!! But I quickly learned being a leader in the 5% is unlike anything I had experienced in the "real world" It's not cutthroat, rather, leaders help leaders. I was trained and treated like gold. As we can see I've since become a Captain and Over All Leader because of the awesome feedback I received all those years ago.
Please do step up, you'll soar in ways you had no idea was possible. This is why many of us who are long time leaders stay in our positions as long as we do. It's a tremendous support system for us. We also get so much more being a leader than we do in giving of ourselves. I have not ever regretted doing so.
Oh yeah, when I first became a leader eons ago I had almost ZERO computer skills. You DO NOT need to have skills, we are happy to help you. We excel in doing so. I also didn't have the confidence you see today. That came along in time.6 -
This challenge can't continue without Team Leaders!
Rain Dancerswould appreciate a Passenger Service Agent or a couple of Flight Attendants to help cover motivational activities.
Thinner Winners-looking for someone to lead the chat and another person to lead games, Passenger Service, or Flight Attendant(s).
Shape Shifters -Baggage Handler, and a Flight Attendant or 2.1 -
The only requirement for leadership is a desire to help your team members reach their goals. Leading is not difficult and there is always someone to help if you have a question. Please consider joining the Leader Team and attending the training we are providing. You will see that leading is a fun and rewarding experience!
In general, Leadership does take commitment, and some extra time but the rewards are many and vary with each person.
Personally, I am inspired by my co-leaders every day! Leading has given me purpose beyond my own personal journey. The friends I have made are a reward that can never be lost and much more.
Each leader position will have its own discussion with the first post being the guidelines for that position which were written years ago by Lynn, (kaliswalker), and adapted to our new home here on MFP. The key word here is "guidelines". These are not carved in stone and every team will find what works best for them.
Everyone can ask questions or share knowledge or ideas about all positions posted. In my opinion, it is a good thing for all leaders to know how every position works. I have been fortunate to have served each position at different times over the years and can honestly say I have enjoyed them all. My favorite is probably whatever spot I am filling at any given time.
So read the guidelines, (in the first comment on this thread), and let's have some conversations about this most important topic.
Remember, this challenge can't exist without people to lead! If you are interested in signing up for Leader Training, (you are not committing to being a leader), please let me or Heidi, (hicim705), know.0 -

I do not have a lot of extra time currently but if it would help I can help on shapeshifters team with the team chat. I usually check in daily & enjoy chatting with everyone. Let me know if that would be supportive of team needs.1
