I seem to have an ongoing apettite.2

Negative emotions primarily. Also, tiredness, especially after a night of poor sleep. Sometimes a big spread of good can throw me off kilter. These things all affect my appetite to eat more. Illness causes me to eat less( I lost several pounds on the Covid Diet)1

Like Phil poor sleep is one thing even with my b-pap machine I still get poor nights sleep occasionally. That will do it for sure. Then stress and worry can effect my appetite as well.
Sometimes I'm not really hungry but that little bug in my ear says you know you want this or that and I give in. The less I eat the less I want to earth. Is quite a trange sometimes the way that works.1 -
I’m going to carve appetite into two issues - hunger and craving.
I’m largely a schedule-based eater, so I’m “hungry” when it’s that time I associate with food. There may be an element of real hunger there, but I tend to discount that. Why? Because if I don’t eat on schedule / if I get past “it’s time” - I’m pretty much okay until my next scheduled feeding. Externals don’t influence me as much as time does.
Cravings? Well, boredom is an issue. The larger issue is associations - smells, visuals, and situations. Smell Cinnabon, want Cinnabon. See cookie, want cookie. Always eat here, wanna eat here. Those association cravings can be interrupted with logic, but that’s rarely a strong point.1
