Kind of staying in the same range, which I guess is okay. My weight has fluctuated from 128.2 to 130.2 this week. Today, I'm more concerned about weight loss with one of our kitties. Our little Teddy is losing weight although he is eating well. He does not seem to feel sick, but the vet told us a month ago that if he continues to lose weight, we have to find out why. (At one point, we cut back on food for both kitties because they were gaining, but he has lost too much.) He seems to feel okay, but cats are known for not letting it be known when they're not well. As you know, our kitties are like children to us, so I'm really worried. I think I can deal with my diagnosis easier than having something go wrong with him.
And as far as my health is concerned, I'm still waiting to hear from the two docs I have to see before I can get on to treatment, i.e., the medical oncologist and the radiologist. I thought I'd see them last Friday, but that appointment was only with the surgeon. She said that if I do not hear from them by tomorrow, I should let her office know so they can contact them. How hard it is to get medical appointments here is just crazy. I think I mentioned that I asked the surgeon about this and she said it's mostly due to lack of staffing. Apparently a lot of medical technicians, admin staff, etc. that provide the services that doctors do not provide and that keep medical offices running left their professions during covid. The breast center is running about half staffed. Because of this shortage, medical staff of all types are being offered very large salaries here. The daughter of one of my friends decided to move a bit outside her field of sports PT and is in a sonographer training position at a hospital now. My friend said the salary and benefits her daughter was offered is pretty amazing.
But one good thing has happened. I think I told you that hubby was called for Federal jury duty, which he was dreading because those trials can last for weeks if not months, and it would entail a really stressful drive on the Capital Beltway. Well, his number was not among those included for voir dire for last week, and as of yesterday, he has been excused for the duration. He is so relieved. He was worried about sitting so long with his neck and back pain and don't even mention the periodic IBS.
Kelly, I hope your absense on the board is because you've been traveling and enjoying that wonderful birthday gift.
Sheesh, I'm glad you had a good time on your golfing trip and with Seattle daughter and grands. I also hope that you get good news from the colonoscopy and endoscopy. Darn, that wasa lot to endure in one day.
Lois, hope the toe continues to get better so you can get back to activities you enjoy. You have that lovely late fall and winter weather coming round the bend.
I have been trying to stay busy. I've made more cookies in the past two weeks than I'd normally make in six months. And unfortunately, I have eaten quite a few of them and sugar is one thing I need to watch. But making cookies and also making a huge batch of homemade vegetable beef soup has kept my mind and hands occupied. My friend with the lung issues was released from the hospital Saturday evening. When I asked if there was anything I could do for her, she said, "You know that wonderful vegetable beef soup you make . . .?" So hubby and I took some up to her yesterday and visited for a bit. She still does not have a diagnosis other than some type of infection. I hate to say this, but she smoked heavily for many years, and although she does not do that any longer, I think perhaps some damage was done that has made her suseptible to infections and this may be a form of chronic bronchitis.
But back to happier news, yesterday, for the first time since my surgery, I was able to do the entire Bone Builders routine. And although I used lighter weights for the arm exercises, I did use weights. So I feel good about that. And like I said, I ate way too much sugar this past week, but I did get my steps and burn up thanks to some nice outside walking weather and doing a little treadmill work while watching the World Series. Here are my 7-day averages.
Steps = 11,091
Kcals burned = 1,764
Looking forward to hearing from everyone, and I'll leave you with this:

Quick post...
Life has been busy. I think I've mentioned before that I typically post on Wednesdays because I usually work from home those days and am on my laptop, but the last few Wednesdays I've been at the office, so it's been more difficult to post. And here I am at the office.
The NFL trip is this weekend. Unfortunately, the NFL can flex (move) games based on how popular a team is due to ratings and that's exactly what they did for our game. They moved our game to a 7pm start, which means we can't go to the NHL game anymore cause it starts at 5pm and there's no way we would make it in time. Of course that's our luck. So, we'll try sell the NHL tickets, but it's not likely so we'll be out the $250
I've been battling a little cold, so I'm focusing on getting rid of that before the weekend. Took a sick day yesterday and slept almost all day, plus all night. Obviously I needed it. I hadn't been sleeping well for the past while, so it's not surprising I got sick.
We had my Brother's 40th birthday surprise supper and then I met up with him, his wife and my parents for a brunch one day.
Kids have still been a handful... as normal. Taxi driver is our 2nd job... without pay though of course.
Can't remember if I told you that Ella got her surgery date of December 9... and then it's 9-12 months of recovery. Poor kid.
K that's my quick update. I'll try check back this week and read everyone's posts. We're headed to the States on Saturday early.0 -

The increase is likely because they pumped me full of fluid yesterday. The test showed no serious problems, but a little diverticulosis, which isn't an infection like diverticulitis. Doc said to eat more fiber for that. Hmm. I already eat a lot of salads and veggies (shrug). My stomach was irritated, and he prescribed Prevacid (generic script) and took a couple of biopsies. I'll get those results in 5 - 10 business days. One nice thing was he looked at my chart and said I looked young. Lol. I think he meant young for an old lady, hah. I managed to get a 30 minute walk today, but I'm still feeling blah from yesterday, so I might not close all my Apple Fitness rings yesterday or today.
Sarah, good news that your friend is home now. (By the way, I want the recipe for your beef veggie soup! Please share here when you have time.) Also, good that hubby doesn't have to serve on the jury, although I can think of a few people in DC I would like to see convicted, haha. I'm sorry about your kitty. If he's behaving okay, I'm thinking it might just be the new diet being successful at getting his weight down. I hope so. And, I'm so glad you're back to your full class. You're doing great. Your steps average is so good! Have you been watching the World Series? I fell asleep last night while watching it, and was surprised this morning to see the Yankees won by so many runs.
Kelly, good to see your post here. I hope you get feeling better soon. Sorry about your game getting changed. Everything seems to be about TV time for maximum views, and the $$ from advertising spots. Have fun getting away though. I'm sure Ella will do well with her surgery because she's young and will heal quickly, but it's sad that it will take time for that to happen.
Lois, your meals sound so yummy. It gives me ideas for new ways to fix all the fish I have. How is the salmon prepared? Share if you can. I'm anxious to see your toe healed and your walks, and maybe trainer (?) happening. Then, all the pieces are put together!
I'm off to an online playdate with grandson. . Nintendo

Sheesh, I'd gladly share the soup recipe, but I don't use a recipe. I just fly by the seat of my pants. When I get a few minutes, I'll think myself through a batch and try to come up with a reasonable guide. I'm sure that you and I both use "cooking intuition" after all these years of cooking.
And I'm glad that your tests went well. I think eventually about everyone gets diverticulosis. Sometimes mine flares into diverticulitis, but so far nothing serious. Hubby got a bad, bad case at a very young age and ended up in the hospital on IV antiobiotics. His docs told him to take lots of metamucil. He did that until he developed IBS, but it must have helped because he has never had such a bad case since.
I have not heard from either the radiologist or the medical oncologist, so I called the surgeon's office today as she asked. However, I got voice mail and just had to leave a message. For years we've said that one of the reasons we stay in this very expensive area is because of good medical care and all the friends we have here. I'm beginning to rethink that first reason!
Kelly, I'm sorry about the game. As Sheesh said, sports are all about money now. And mentioning which, I do hope that you get your money back for the tickets.
It's a very summery day here in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia). I think it will still be in the low 70's when the little kids head out to trick-or-treat tonight. We are prepared for our usual deluge. Lois, have fun tonight with Rhea!
Well, I will feel better if I get up from this desk and get a few more things done, and I also want to walk because outside walking will not be possible for a whole lot longer. The cookies are finally gone, but the Halloween candy . . .0 -
Sheesh - I have never heard of high calcium levels in blood before. That's interesting. Do they know the cause of yours? And omg.. I love Jim Gaffigan! He's soooo funny. I would love to go see him. I also loved that your doctor says that you're looking young! That must have felt good And sooo glad to hear that they didn't find any serious problems.
Lois - Your meals sound go good. It makes them sound simple the way you mention it, but why can't I ever think to make that kind of stuff lol I hope you have a good time with your girlfriend at Sea World!
Sarah - That pic on facebook of your kitty at your door yesterday was cute. Is that the one that's having weight loss issues? Also... I LOVED that quote you put at the bottom of one of your posts - "Life might be tough, but we're tougher!" So great and one I'll have to remember, especially lately!
Halloween was good. We've never handed out candy before in this house, it's we're usually busy with our Son's birthday and with hockey. This year we're doing his birthday cake and presents tonight instead, as he wanted to hang out with his girlfriend instead, plus he had hockey practice. We got 71 kids, which is more than I thought we'd get, as we don't have houses across the street from us. The pup had fun going to the door to look at all the kiddos.0 -
Happy Friday, all. And yes, Kelly, Teddy is the kitty that is losing weight. The vet called yesterday and said that since his thyroid levels are fine and his blood sugar levels are fine, we have to consider a cancer, which of course, is worrying me. He is truly part of my heart. I called the vet this morning and they're going to find out when the ultrasound tech is available. It will cost $600, but I'd pay $6,000 if he could be well. Having these health issues has really brought me back to what really matters and it's not how much money I have in the bank, as long as I can pay my bills.
Sounds like your Halloween and mine were about the same. We forgot to count but estimate our trick-or-treaters at about 70, too. One year we had a couple of buses of kids show up (scout troops or something) so we're always over prepared. I'm going to need to find a way to get rid of some candy!
I'm happy that your daughter's surgery has been scheduled. I'll mark December 9 on my calendar and will send good thoughts her way for successful surgery and healing. She sounds like a trooper. And having heard about the kids for years now, it's hard to imagine your son as old enough to prefer time with the girlfriend. Oh my gosh. Time just flies.
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for your support. You help me stay tougher than life!0
