What do you like to be called? I am Ceri, and it is pronounced like that imposter on the iPhone.
How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? On Spark People in the Spring of 2010, I started with the very first challenge
How many 5% Challenges have you completed? I missed one challenge in all those years, so I think this is 61. In the early days, when we were still a small group, we had 5 challenges a year.
What do you like to do for fun? Read, watch some TV and Movies, play games on my phone, I love to study the Bible and do research. I love to learn new things.
What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live 20 miles South of South Williamsport, PA, home of the LL World Series. Nope, I never go there. It's crazy! When I was still working in Williamsport, the traffic was so heavy that it doubled my commute time.
What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I hope to get back to basics
How would your pet or friend describe you? Kind, loving, loyal, generous
What is the last thing you finished? Give it a name if you can. I finished setting up the 2025 Winter Community Page.
What is your favorite TV show? At this time, I am binge-watching Cold Case.
Do you like Winter? Why or why not? I do NOT LIKE winter! I hate being cold, and once the beauty of freshly fallen snow fades, it's dreary and ugly.
What are your favorite Winter activities? I love leading a Bible Study at my Church and staying in my soft, warm PJs.
What are your favorite winter comfort foods? Have you modified them to make them healthier? I like hot chocolate with marshmallow cream or whipped cream and any kind of homemade soup. I always use water as a soup base.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise? Walking and hand weights
Would you rather build a snowman, shovel snow, or clean the house? I'm weird. I enjoy shoveling snow. I live on the same block I grew up on, so as a child, I shoveled the walk in front of my current home for the people who lived here then. I loved shoveling as a child. Shoveling brings back good memories.
Does your self-care routine change in the winter? What do you do differently? I use the tub instead of the shower and more moisturizer. I also mani and pedicure at home instead of the salon.
What always cheers you up? Singing Praise songs
2 fun things about you? I died twice. My Granddaughters were born the same day, 3 years apart. The oldest was a month early, and the youngest was a week late
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Be consistent! If you miss something for a day, do it the next day and keep going.

What do you like to be called? Diane though on Positively Strong 4 Life I go by Diane1 since we have 2 leaders named Diane,,, I think we need more!!
How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? Back in 2010 on Sparkpeople (now closed) from another member who had blogged about it. I have NO REGRETS on joining.
How many 5% Challenges have you completed? All of them since the Winter of 2011. On the 2nd one I became a motivational leader, from there HERE I AM!!
What do you like to do for fun? Cryptogram , cribbage and other games, meet with friends, vaca with friends, or even family. Just enjoying life.
What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live.
Greater Portland ME on the harbor. Saw this the other day out of my living room windows!

To slowly see if I can increase my steps, but I need to be careful.

Cats: She spoils us, loves us, but we often call the ASPCA because we want MORE TREATS!!!

Do you like Winter? Why or why not?
YES!! YES!!! It's cold, and cold and snowy (usually) and I just feel so at peace. When we lose electricity, I am even more relaxed. It's quieter. Look how PRETTY IT IS!
What are your favorite winter activities?
A friend and I have started to do sculpture on trees of characters in full with each tree after missing more and more of the character until it's a tail (etc.) and GONE!! LOL it's fun to do.
What are your favorite winter comfort foods? Have you modified it to make it healthier?
I'm new to making soups. I do not like watery ones, but I do the thick ones. I am on a low sodium diet; I skip any added salt and use low sodium ingredients as I can or even no sodium ones.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise?
Walking in the snow!! I WISH it was still snowing like it did 20 years ago, up to my knee or higher!! That's so much fun to walk in and a great workout.

Build a snowman ANY TIME, ANY WHERE!
Does your self-care routine change in the winter? What do you do differently?
Drinking water. I increase it more so. I moisture way more and different types than in the other times of the year. I no longer do a hot bath or hot shower; it takes to much out of my skin.
What always cheers you up?
Coming home to the 2 furbabies, talking to my GD and the 2 boys (Awww be still my heart!) At once being grateful for 3 things, they can be small or big.
2 fun things about you?
Humor its dry and I do it without any sign of it being such by cracking a smile etc. It's fun to see when/if others catch things. Awwww I am a great grandma, and I just love them 2 boys!! Ages 1 1/2 and age 7.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Please do not go on any fad diet, make gradual changes if it's one you do not like that makes you mad, it's not for you, at this time.

What do you like to be called? Heidi
How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? Right after the FIRST 5% Challenge started on SP, I was invited to join the 'waitlist' group. That entire group joined in the Summer of 2010 and became the newest team of the Challenges at that time ~ our name: FIRECRACKERS (so that 2nd Challenge started in 2010 around the July 4th holiday).
How many 5% Challenges have you completed? If Ceri completed 61, I've likely completed 58 as I joined after the very first Challenge and then missed one or two rounds through the years.
What do you like to do for fun? Theatre ~ I love to go to the theatre (I share that passion with my DD). I also like to perform on-stage and/or help out backstage with any local productions.
What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I guess I might consider my area between PHL and NYC. I live in the Western part of NJ, close to PA. The town that is close to us that some of you might know if Flemington (has anyone ever heard of Flemington Furs ~ used to be pretty popular). We also live near Clinton, NJ ~ one of the most photographed places in NJ:The Red Mill
What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I've gotten so far from consistently practicing anything health/fitness related and making any kind of progress ~ I NEED TO GET BACK TO BASICS AND HOPE THAT 2025 IS THE YEAR THAT I WILL ACCOMPLISH THAT!
How would your pet or friend describe you? Raven, our dog - is **my** dog; I'm her person!! When I at work, she is my husband's dog - but as soon as she hears my car come up the street and pull into the driveway, she is thrilled to see me (I'm the one that gives her the most treats ~ so it is a 'food' thing, LOL). Whenever I am home, she HAS to be near me ~ when I work from home, she even comes into the room that I work in and sleeps on the floor next to my chair.
What is the last thing you finished? Give it a name if you can. Helping to plan/execute a Board Meeting that happens this evening (Weds ~ 12/4/24).
What is your favorite TV show? I currently love the shows on MeTV (they bring back memories of years ago when I watched them on network TV ~ and have been watching/rewatching M*A*S*H. I'm also a HUGE fan of 'Outlander' on STARZ.
Do you like Winter? Why or why not? I do not like winter. I don't care for the cold/snow/ice. I hate driving in snowstorms. HOWEVER, on the flip-side, I am not the biggest fan of the hottest days of summer, either. My favorite season(s): Spring and Fall.
What are your favorite winter activities? Staying inside; however, in the last few years I have bundled up and gone outside for a daily walk which I do enjoy.
What are your favorite winter comfort foods? Have you modified it to make it healthier? I like food in general ~ haha - hence, the reason that I come back season after season. My husband is retired so he does most of the cooking so I'm usually fine having a home cooked meal ready for me whenever I walk in the door.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise? NONE - I actually have always hated to exercise, however, through the years - walking has become my exercise of choice. I need to get back to the basics and get more consistent about that once again.
Would you rather build a snowman, shovel snow, or clean the house? Haha - is there another choice? If I HAD to choose one of these, I would say build a snowman.
Does your self-care routine change in the winter? What do you do differently? More moisturizer and I actually have to force myself to keep hydrated (I told you I got away from the basics!)
What always cheers you up? Spending time with my DD
2 fun things about you? I already mentioned that I'm a theatre lover. Recently, DD and I saw the new 'WICKED' movie on it's opening day. Looking forward to retiring (at least semi-retiring) in 2025 ~ hoping that I can realize that dream.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? I need to get back to basics, I know what to do, however, because of twists and turns in my life in the past few years, I've gotten lost and need to get back to putting me first and making sure that I take care of myself. At my last physical, my doctor called and stated that my cholesterol is creeping up to an area where he will consider putting me on medication to control that ... my motivation for 2025 and beyond is to try to manage that without the need for medication ~ I'm researching the Mediterranean Diet and want to get back to moving EVERY DAY without fail...
Anything else you would like to share? I'm Heidi (hicim705) and one of the Overall Leaders of the Seasonal 5% Challenges and also one of the leaders instrumental in bringing the 5% Challenges to MFP when SP closed. A lot of work goes into these Challenges. Ceri (Ceriusly1), Barb (ladyluk1), Diane (Dianedoessmiles1) and I have done a lot of 'behind the scenes' planning/work to continue to bring us all together and to make these Challenges meaningful. I truly hope that you will join me in making the most of the 8 weeks that we are together in the 2025 Winter 5% Challenge.

What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live about an hour from Seattle, WA. It's a ferry ride away and I love going over to hang out for a show or concert or whatever. We are known for the Space Needle and the Pike Place Market.
What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to get some sort of routine or something happening.
How would your pet or friend describe you? My dog would tell you I am the best friend anyone could have.
What is the last thing you finished? Give it a name if you can. A reversible afghan for my mom.

Do you like Winter? Why or why not? Yes, because I like to be cozy and warm inside of the house.

What are your favorite winter comfort foods? Have you modified it to make it healthier? Casseroles, my husband would be so mad if I modified them to make them healthier. Soups & stews. I have tried to add more veggies them.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise? Walking Workout videos, treadmill. Dancing when I can turn the music on.

What major city do you live in or near? State? Little Rock, Arkansas - Arkansas is called the Natural State so lots of beautiful nature areas here - also home of the Little Rock Marathon, with probably the absolute best finisher's medals in the country 🙂

What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Get back into a walking program (start training for the Little Rock Marathon 10K next year)

Do you like Winter? Why or why not? I like it sometimes - when we get ice that makes it unsafe to leave the house, I am not fond of that

What do you do differently? No, it doesn't change. I try to upgrade my routines periodically, but not with the seasons.

2 fun things about you? I'm 90 years old, still exercising, and still actively engaged in life. I only retired as a college prof about 3 years ago.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Make sure you eat because not eating can lead to problems just as much as over-eating.

What do you like to do for fun?
Swim, Hike, Beach, Travel, Sports, Garden, Fishing
What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live.
Delaware. It's between Philadelphia and Washington DC. But it's pretty rural where I live, a combination of beaches and farms. We have a lot of good neighbors and and we all watch out for each other, doing BBQs and Pool parties and Bonfires and fireworks shows together, depending on the season.
What are your health/fitness goals for this season?
I want to lose a couple inches in my belly and tone my arms a little more.
And love to see my thigh gap get a little bigger.
How would your pet or friend describe you?
Always busy, always planning, always looking to give the best.

I take 6-8 classes a week at the gym (Pilates, Circuit ST, Kickboxing, Yoga, etc)

Hubs and I usually unwind together between work and dinner - In the Summer and Fall, it's in the Pool. And in the Spring and Winter, it's in the hottub. Other than that, self-care stays pretty much the same.
What always cheers you up?
My pets, my family, my friends.

Planning to retire in 2025, but Hubs and I will still keep teaching our 6th grade Sunday School class.

Determined, over intense about finishing a job in a day even when my body is screaming for me to stop

I’ve walked with penguins in Antarctica and been eye to eye with a polar bear in Churchill ( from the safety of a tundra buggy)

How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I received an invite from a Sparkfriend and did my first challenge in the winter of 2012, I think.
How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Don’t know. I sat out maybe two.
What do you like to do for fun? I read voraciously. In addition, I love to spend time with my friends.
What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. Clearwater Fl in the Tampa Bay area. I’ve lived in Florida all my life, but this year’s hurricanes were really scary. We had no hurricane damage, but just afterwords, we’ve had a bad plumbing leak, and now the hot water heater broke down. Most of the area’s piers look like this or worse.
What are your health/fitness goals for this season? LOSE and stick with exercise and eating in moderation.
How would your pet or friend describe you? Dedicated

Would you rather build a snowman, shovel snow, or clean the house? Well…#1 and #2 aren’t options here, so I’m stuck with #3 although I must say a clean house is very satisfying.

2 fun things about you? I have twice accidentally welcomed strangers into my house at midnight. What else do you do when an older lady who doesn’t speak English or Spanish turns up at your door in the rain carrying her pillow?? The other involved a plumber who wasn’t the one I thought I called.
I do encounter some odd situations. A young man rode right into the side of my car at an intersection where he clearly didn’t expect anyone else to be there. Wouldn’t you know, he was seriously a stunt rider who threw himself off his bike just before it hit my side door. He was fine, I was fine, my car had only a tire mark, but his bike was somewhat worse for wear. I loaded up his bike, took him to his badly needed job, and wrote him a check for repairs. He was very young, but was a soon to be father trying his best to take care of his girlfriend and coming son. Something about him was so appealing. His boss at his job must have felt the same because she was very protective of him when I dropped off him and his damaged bike. I sometimes think of him and hope things have gone well for him and his family.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Tell that bag of chips, cookies, or whatever that eating them won’t improve anything and will solve nothing. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

I'd like to strengthen my muscles, keep my flexibilty and increase my stamina. Losing a little weight would probably be good.

When I am dressed for winter and can be outside, I enjoy it and sitting in front of a fire in the fireplace is a comfort. There is no gardening to do so I hope to enjoy doing something creative, maybe working on a craft. I look forward to decorating and baking for Christmas.

If a meal plan doesn't work for you, or a specific exercise is boring/impossible, you did not fail at fitness; you just eliminated one possible answer. Pick another and try again; eventually you will find the one which works.

No, I hate snow and the darkness.

I don't have any.

Lasagna. I will have this on Christmas.

Walking in place watching a TV show.

lots of military bases, on the edge of the prairie and foot of the mountains. Close enough to the mountains to get there with a short drive and be able to get out in nature often.

What is your favorite TV show? movies and follow a series on Netflix
Do you like Winter? Why or why not? yes cause it is pretty and we need the moisture/No cause when the snow melts my roads turn to Mudville and are close to impassable .
What are your favorite winter activities? Used to be hiking and ice skating, now ..walking and trying out new recipes.
What are your favorite winter comfort foods? soups and chili
Have you modified it to make it healthier? for chili yes, for soups already did AMAP to be healthy.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise? Walking when I can get out.

What do you do differently? more lotion, more hot liquids and more inside exercises

How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I was on the 5% challenge two years ago but left because I was having two knee replacements.

What do you like to do for fun? Love playing games on my phone, listening to music, and being with friends.

What are your health/fitness goals for this season? To lose the weight that I put back on and to be with a very supportive team.
How would your pet or friend describe you? As a very nice person

Do you like Winter? Why or why not? No I hate the Winter because I hate being cold.
What are your favorite winter activities? I like being in the hot tub at the Gym.
What are your favorite winter comfort foods? Have you modified it to make it healthier? I love soups in the winter like Potato Soup and Navy Bean and Ham.
What is your favorite type of winter exercise? Pretty much the same as summer. Silver Sneakers and I like my spinning class too.
