I like the premise of this group very much but I wish there was greater participation!!!! Unfortunately, there is still a great deal of negativity and judgement in the fitness world regarding the use of GIP/GLP-1 and GLP-1. This could be a great place (and a safe place) to chat about our ups and downs on this journey.

I agree! I have been using a compounded semaglutide since February of this year and I’m down 40 lbs. with 30 to go. It’s slow but I don’t mind. I just started being open with everyone about it since others are noticing my weight loss. I don’t feel ashamed about my method of treatment because my doctor wanted me in statins and that made my joints hurt so I decided if I had to take medication, I’m going to take something that will help me lose weight which will help me long term in different ways. I feel completely comfortable with my decision. Wishing you much success on your journey!1

@deewip 40 lbs so far! That’s fantastic!!!! Which compound are you using? I’m on Zepbound 2.5, the introductory dose. With my next injection I will start the 5.0. Dose. I haven’t had any problems so far. I’m absolutely amazed at how I have no interest whatsoever in eating. I was struggling to drink enough water in the beginning, but I flavor it now and it’s no longer a problem. I started October 23 and so far I’m down 12 pounds. I’m sure a lot of that was water weight and I will probably slow down going forward but it sure is a nice incentive! I’m paying a lot for mine because Medicare won’t cover it even though I have heart failure. Now that it’s open enrollment I’m looking at all the available plans to see if I can find one that will cover the medication even though I am not diabetic. I understand diabetics have an easier time getting approval.
Are you going through your doctor or through an online compounding pharmacy?0 -
Ug 🥴 I gained a pound!!!!! 💦 Intellectually I know weight always fluctuates a bit, emotionally I’m sad. That’s definitely something I have to work on! It’s a stupid mind set to have!1

Try not to worry. I would circle a bit. But I just figured since I have to be on this all the time I’m ok in it taking all the time I need and sure enough now I am at 40 lbs. It was actually my dr. Who suggested and sent a prescription to a local compounding pharmacy here in AZ but they don’t ship to other states. Let me know if you use one that is online because my son is checking out Hims but they don’t have a lot of info on their site and it’s hard to contact them0

I use the online site called Shapely but they are expensive. Their compound pharmacy is in Florida. I’m in California. I pay 250.00 a month for Zepbound and “membership” Semaglutide is cheaper but Zepbound was a better choice for me after discussing it with my cardiologist. I really should look around and compare prices since there are so many online pharmacies.0

I think that’s just how Zepbound is. I pay $250 for semaglutide but they said the Zepbound would be a lot more. I just have to pay a copay for my dr. Visit each month.1

I just started compounded semaglutide this past Saturday through Noom and so far, no side effects. I actually feel pretty good and have already noticed less need to eat so much. I've notice I don't think about food as much, either. Could be placebo effect, but either way, I'll take it.2

I thought it might have been the placebo effect as well when I first started, but I am one month in now and it’s still the same! I don’t feel hungry, foods that used to tempt me no longer tempt me, I have to remind myself to eat and I’m now much more focused on eating healthier.0

I just started semaglutide last Wednesday so tomorrow I will take my 2nd dose. I didn't have any side effects after the first dose. The first 2 days I ate pretty normal but the last few days I have notices a slow decrease in appetite or cravings. Just in this first week, I have come to realize that I am a bored eater. I have always been one of those people that like to snack on chips while working or studying but now that I don't crave it, I still find myself wanting to snack out of habit. I have to say it's really annoying because I know I am not hungry, but I feel like I need to be eating something. I'm at war with my brain to undo a lifetime of bad eating habits. I opted to take this medication because I had renal failure at a young age and dealt with the dialysis and everything health-related for years before I received a kidney transplant. My nephrologist referred me to a weight loss clinic, and they recommended the medication. It didn't take a lot of convincing on the drs part. We talked extensively and made a plan where I committed to working out and watching my food/water intake. I've worked hard to stay alive when all I wanted to do was give up...I didn't want to have to work hard for this one thing in my life. I took the easy way out but even then; I still have to put in the work and it's not cheap. I pay almost $300 every 6 weeks to "cheat" and "take the easy way out". I'm okay with that. I know myself. I've tried to lose weight my entire life and have been beaten down time and time again because I take steroids that don't really allow for much weight loss. My confidence and self-esteem are nonexistent at this point. I just want to keep up with my teenager and be happy. Really looking forward to journey and finding people who get it2

I’m pretty much a newbie too. I started Oct 23rd so just over a month. I haven’t told anybody that I am doing this. Only my husband knows. I guess right now I don’t want to deal with the opinions that I already know others have.
I have absolutely zero interest in food right now. I have to force myself to eat and I rarely break 1000 cal a day which I know is not healthy. I’ve started looking for more creative ways to get more protein daily along with more fruits and veggies. This is all very strange to me because I normally love food, love to eat, love to graze through the day, etc., etc..0 -
Hi! I’ve been following the glp-1 group on WW, but would rather be able to that here. I just started my 3 month and lost 16 pounds. Unfortunately I’m struggling with a lot of the side effects but not enough to give up. I’m going to try and follow anyone whose working with these meds so hopefully we can encourage each other.1

Hi @Cherri3770! Happy Thanksgiving! I’m sorry that you’re experiencing unpleasant side effects. It might be time to consider one of the many other options that are out there. Maybe one of the others is gentler on your system.
Originally, I wanted to go through WW too! From previous experience I know that their online communities are extremely active. Unfortunately, they do not offer Zepbound, which was my preferred choice (after some research and discussion with my cardiologist.) So I shopped around and found a different online group to purchase it from. However, they do not offer any form of online community or chat room. And, after a few weeks I realized that their food diary was fairly weak. Someone recommended My Fitness Pal. The nutritional information provided here is excellent!
The GLP groups here are not as active as WW but no question will ever go unanswered.0 -
Thanks for the reply. I skipped my last shot so I could enjoy this week and I’m starting back on a lower dose to see how it goes. I took it yesterday and so far so good. Do you mind if I follow you to keep in touch with this journey?1
-
Absolutely! @Cherri3770 My first MFP friend!
I’m glad you’re trying a lower dose, maybe your body needs more time to acclimate before titrating up. My brother is on Ozempic. Over 6 months now. He vomitted a lot in the beginning, but now only occasionally. It took him a while to figure it out. They adjusted the dose but it didn’t help. Then he started keeping a food journal and noticed a food combination that seemed to trigger the emesis. He made a few adjustments and it stopped.0 -
@mlong1990 I get your struggle with eating when bored or just out of habit. My other problem is I’m a huge volume eater. I have always gone up and down with my weight and now that I’m in my 50s it is affecting my health. Once this med started kicking in I couldn’t eat nearly as much as before. I haven’t really gotten the reduction in food noise at this lower dose so the urge to overeat is there but I can’t do it. Which is good, but I have actually gotten a little depressed about not being able to eat. How sad is that!😂 This is going to force me to learn new habits, thank goodness!1

I had to skip my semaglutide shot this week to have a colonscopy today. My injection day is Sunday and it will be Thursday when I take it again. Do you think it should be ok or will I need to decrease my dose? I’m at the highest dose 2.4mg0

Hi. I just want to introduce myself. I am 52 and have been on oral semaglutide for about 6 weeks and have lost 11.6 pounds. I have had mostly good days. No side effects but some hunger. If some of you could add me as a friend, I could really use the support. Thank you!0
