@CasandraW I am so sorry for your sudden loss.
@Pupowl I appreciate your posts and read them when I can! Sorry to hear that you've been struggling recently, I love the nature photos and hope Tinus is better soon enough that you can get back outdoors, but love the walking pad you set up as well. It's great that you are finding ways to stay active.
@iradi8 I also have very mixed emotions about people commenting over weight loss. I haven't lost weight in a while, have only been on the climb this year, but remember getting a lot of compliments when I did lose weight a couple years ago. It's so hard, I don't think there is ill intention and I suspect that most people are struggling in their own ways .
I'm still recovering from helping out at the musical theatre show that my child was in. There's a lot to catch up on with work and with getting ready for the Christmas holidays. I'm getting there, but haven't had much time for exercise or my other hobbies. I'm hoping to get a rest in after Christmas and then thinking about a health reset for the new year (getting back to logging, exercise and better sleep).
take care, everyone.3 -

Really surprised by this, as it's been a really busy week, I haven't been tracking my diet, and I've been stress eating.5 -

@iradi8 i also struggle with emotional eating. lately i've been reminding myself that the comfort is temporary and doesn't address the actual problem i'm having. you're not alone!7 -

I went for a walk earlier in the day, but I didn't have time for much else later in the day. I took my son to his appointment and then dropped both boys off at my mom's, which was a lot of driving. I was pretty exhausted when I got home at almost 8 so didn't get to the gym. Again. I need to get back to my gym routine, it was very shaky this week.5 -

The cortisone shot I got last week has helped my knee. Still some discomfort, but I can easily climb stairs right now. I was only able to get a partial fill on my Rx to take instead of advil so I have to go back to the pharmacy to get the rest of it. Meanwhile, I had oral surgery on Tuesday. I had conscious sedation so I pretty much slept all day once I got home. Dentist prescribed Advil for dental pain so I’m not taking the rx pain meds on top of that. And the antibiotics are a bit tough on my digestive system so I’m trying to take as little Advil as possible til I can get through this. I’ve been on a soft food diet since the surgery, so that’s been fun. And next week I’m scheduled to get bloodwork so I’m hoping my blood sugar doesn’t get too messed up by all this.
Add to all that the usual Christmas craziness. Cleaning, shopping, baking, etc. and the family starts to arrive on Thursday. We have a party to attend tonight and I can’t even remember the last time we went to one of those. I pulled out my holiday clothes from the back of the closet and they’re all a size too big so I need to sort that out. At least that’s not a bad problem to have!7 -

Catching up on some posts, sorry for my slow replies.
@p8m6bwghh9 Oh, I wish Tinus was that adventurous! I do have a backpack like that in case of emergencies, but thankfully haven't needed to use it yet. Tinus just wears a cute harness and is on a lead outside and when we go to the vet, he is in his pet stroller. He is actually a pretty scared kitty. He is afraid of people, bikes, cars. Most of the time we stay in the front or back yard. He very rarely gets in the mood to explore and we walk to a different street.
@iradi8 Thanks for your nice comment. I am sorry to hear about your dog, that is terrible. Is it possible for him to get better? I have been in your position so many times on my weight loss journey. It is so annoying how I can go from doing really good to being completely in the gutter. I think part of the problem for me is that after I have done well for a while, I give myself permission to have a day free to eat what I want. But it never ends up being only one day. It is so disruptive for all my progress and habits, that I just don't think I can have any cheat days at all. I also have the same that somehow the motivation just dissapears and I stop caring. It is very frustrating.
I understand that being in onederland is a big deal. Maybe you would do better by having some smaller goals instead and also look beyond the goal of being under 200 pounds. I personally really liked having a tracker that had my entire weight loss goal on it in 1 pound steps. So every time I lost a pound, I could mark it off. That way you can keep an eye on your past progress and look ahead at the same time which I thought was pretty helpful.
The comments about weight loss can be hard to deal with. I remember when I did bad and gained weight back, I didn't want to see anyone because I felt so ashamed. And that was with people who wouldn't even comment on it, so I can't imagine how much worse it feels when they do. I hope you can figure out a way to navigate the obstacles. Our brains are really good at making excuses, it is hard to change. But learning how to manage when life knocks you down is very important. Maybe you can figure out your minimum habits. I believe @PatriceFitnessPal made a post about this before. Here is what I mean with that:
Preferred habits are what your habits look like on the perfect day, including new habits you’re working on. Basic habits are the ones you have had down-pat for a while, and you don’t even think twice about doing them, even on days with some stress. Minimum habits are the very lowest bar of necessary habits that you plan to keep, even when life throws you insane curveballs (think death in the family, medical emergency, loss of job, displacement, etc).
@Tomsgal1985 Thank you!
@Zaxa2021 How did the appointment with the new specialist go?
@pedal__power Thank you! Still struggling over here. The walking pad is working out nicely though. I am really happy I got it.5 -

@Pupowl Thank you for asking. I felt it was a bit anti-climatic. It was with a physical medicine doctor, which I hadn't even heard of before we were referred. My main questions were about medication for the stiffness in his legs, and about what kind of orthotics he should be wearing. And the answers were basically no medication and no orthotics. I was hoping we could find some way to help him walk, but I guess these aren't it. So a bit disappointing.
On the plus side, the appointment was probably the smoothest I've ever been to. We didn't have to wait at all, and Zach was extremely patient and cooperative. So that side of things wasn't stressful at all.4 -

I went to the gym first thing and was able to do a slow jog for a couple of miles. I haven't been running much at all because of lingering hip pain but it felt pretty good yesterday. We also went out for drinks in the evening and walked the short distance there and back. But other than some brief cleaning and grocery shopping, I didn't do much else that involved getting off the couch.4 -

@Zaxa2021 Sorry to hear that! I hope you can find better answers in the future. I feel like we still have a lot to learn about human bodies.
@PatriceFitnessPal Thanks for the link! That's the thread I also found, but I thought there was a bigger one. There aren't very many replies there.2 -

Hi All:
@pupowl @Katmary71 @lauren_989
On Friday, I had a really rough day with my left leg at work...lots of pain...whole dept left early (3pm) to go our Holiday IT Christmas dinner...I stayed and worked until 5 since I wasn't attending...was nice and quiet and got a lot done. Made it home and went straight to lie down for two hours before I even wanted to eat and even then, it just cereal with fruit.
Saturday morning, I scheduled and had a telehealth appt with HealthJoy (free through employer)...they sent me to local urgent care for in-person exam since it involved swelling NOT associated with an injury and they were concerned. Urgent care was excellent and gave me an exam, but were also concerned and didn't have equipment needed to do a scan...sent me to ER at the hospital...got there around 1pm...had two exams and then imaging of the leg and an ultrasound. Had about an hour in between each of those things so around 6pm, I got the word--NO BLOOD CLOTS! Never been so glad to hear a diagnosis!!! Staff there was excellent, especially the tech who did the ultrasound. She had to squeeze parts of the leg from my ankle to inner thighs and the groin area. Some of it really hurt because of the swelling, which was already better than Friday though. She was so kind and described every action before taking it so as not to scare me. Because of all of these exams, I was unaware if they'd need blood work, so didn't eat until I got home...had the last of the chili I had made and some crackers...that was it.
In any case, wanted to let you all know that all is good. Just got back from picking up my prescription (pharmacy was closed when I left the hospital) for muscle relaxers. He warned me that it could make me drowsy...like benedryl or allergy meds would do...can anyone attest to that? Any advise...can I drive ok to and from work? Was thinking I'd take it once getting to work...thoughts?
I'm now down over 25 pounds since this started back in early October. Wish I had stayed on track and never started eating out again. Sorry for not reporting in much last week...was just trying to get through it all.
Thanks to those who have checked in with me. I'm doing ok.

@jessicakrall8 That sounds like an ordeal! I am glad it wasn't blood clots, but do you know what it was? Or when it will go away? I hope the pain is getting less at least. I would be careful with the meds. Usually if you aren't allowed to drive with it, there is a warning on the box and I would also assume they would tell you about it. Also, not everyone has the same reaction to medication, so I don't tink it is a good idea to go of the experience of other people. Taking it at work is probably the best idea if you can't work from home. Then you at least have some time before needing to drive. Maybe make sure you also have a back up plan in case it does make you drowsy. Good luck and let us know how it goes!3
-
@jessicakrall8 I’m sorry you’re going through this and agree with Pupowl. I have had different reactions taking the same muscle relaxers at various points and different reactions to different muscle relaxers. I hope they bring you some relief.1

@Pupowl thank you for that video
@PatriceFitnessPal thanks for the habit link
I found these helpful, for some reason they kinda clicked and resulted in lightbulb moments.

It gives great examples of how people maintained their weight loss over years. My best advice? Make MFP part of your life just like checking your email, voicemail, and bank balance, etc every day.
What I tell my patients who want to lose weight and maintain is this:
Think of tracking your intake and exercise is like tracking your checking account. Would you ever go to a store and swipe your debit card without ever knowing what your balance is to spend or what the price of the item your buying is? Eating without tracking is exactly this.
Who would ever go to Best Buy and just start writing a check for the prettiest washer and dryer or fanciest computer just because you were "hungry to have one"? Blind eating is just like blind spending.
Would any of us irresponsibly ask the question, "Hey when can I stop checking my balance at the bank? It's getting old seeing how much money I have or don't have every day . I just want to relax and spend freely and assume that I have unlimited funds available". Or how about, "Hey, I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks...can't I just blow a bunch of cash that I don't have and just worry about the overdraft fees later when I get home?"
I would hope not.

OMG! That is exactly how I think about money! It takes a great deal of discipline for me to respect my budget.....same goes for my food budget, it takes serious discipline. I've discovered that discipline is not a bad word, it just means: make a choice and do it. I'm 60 years old and we have money in the bank and I'm am the lightest I have ever been since I was 14 yrs old. Because I decided to do this, no tricks, no magic, just "I'm doing this"[/quote]2
