@CasandraW I am so sorry for your sudden loss.

@Pupowl I appreciate your posts and read them when I can! Sorry to hear that you've been struggling recently, I love the nature photos and hope Tinus is better soon enough that you can get back outdoors, but love the walking pad you set up as well. It's great that you are finding ways to stay active.

@iradi8 I also have very mixed emotions about people commenting over weight loss. I haven't lost weight in a while, have only been on the climb this year, but remember getting a lot of compliments when I did lose weight a couple years ago. It's so hard, I don't think there is ill intention and I suspect that most people are struggling in their own ways .

I'm still recovering from helping out at the musical theatre show that my child was in. There's a lot to catch up on with work and with getting ready for the Christmas holidays. I'm getting there, but haven't had much time for exercise or my other hobbies. I'm hoping to get a rest in after Christmas and then thinking about a health reset for the new year (getting back to logging, exercise and better sleep).

    take care, everyone.

@Pupowl Thank you for asking. I felt it was a bit anti-climatic. It was with a physical medicine doctor, which I hadn't even heard of before we were referred. My main questions were about medication for the stiffness in his legs, and about what kind of orthotics he should be wearing. And the answers were basically no medication and no orthotics. I was hoping we could find some way to help him walk, but I guess these aren't it. So a bit disappointing.

On the plus side, the appointment was probably the smoothest I've ever been to. We didn't have to wait at all, and Zach was extremely patient and cooperative. So that side of things wasn't stressful at all.

I went to the gym first thing and was able to do a slow jog for a couple of miles. I haven't been running much at all because of lingering hip pain but it felt pretty good yesterday. We also went out for drinks in the evening and walked the short distance there and back. But other than some brief cleaning and grocery shopping, I didn't do much else that involved getting off the couch.

@Zaxa2021 Sorry to hear that! I hope you can find better answers in the future. I feel like we still have a lot to learn about human bodies.
@PatriceFitnessPal Thanks for the link! That's the thread I also found, but I thought there was a bigger one. There aren't very many replies there.

@jessicakrall8 That sounds like an ordeal! I am glad it wasn't blood clots, but do you know what it was? Or when it will go away? I hope the pain is getting less at least. I would be careful with the meds. Usually if you aren't allowed to drive with it, there is a warning on the box and I would also assume they would tell you about it. Also, not everyone has the same reaction to medication, so I don't tink it is a good idea to go of the experience of other people. Taking it at work is probably the best idea if you can't work from home. Then you at least have some time before needing to drive. Maybe make sure you also have a back up plan in case it does make you drowsy. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

@jessicakrall8 I’m sorry you’re going through this and agree with Pupowl. I have had different reactions taking the same muscle relaxers at various points and different reactions to different muscle relaxers. I hope they bring you some relief.

@Pupowl thank you for that video
@PatriceFitnessPal thanks for the habit link

I found these helpful, for some reason they kinda clicked and resulted in lightbulb moments.

There is a great book I read called "Thin for Life". It gives great examples of how people maintained their weight loss over years. My best advice? Make MFP part of your life just like checking your email, voicemail, and bank balance, etc every day.

What I tell my patients who want to lose weight and maintain is this:
Think of tracking your intake and exercise is like tracking your checking account. Would you ever go to a store and swipe your debit card without ever knowing what your balance is to spend or what the price of the item your buying is? Eating without tracking is exactly this.

Who would ever go to Best Buy and just start writing a check for the prettiest washer and dryer or fanciest computer just because you were "hungry to have one"? Blind eating is just like blind spending.

Would any of us irresponsibly ask the question, "Hey when can I stop checking my balance at the bank? It's getting old seeing how much money I have or don't have every day . I just want to relax and spend freely and assume that I have unlimited funds available". Or how about, "Hey, I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks...can't I just blow a bunch of cash that I don't have and just worry about the overdraft fees later when I get home?"

    I would hope not.

    Your friendly Registered Dietitian

OMG! That is exactly how I think about money! It takes a great deal of discipline for me to respect my budget.....same goes for my food budget, it takes serious discipline. I've discovered that discipline is not a bad word, it just means: make a choice and do it. I'm 60 years old and we have money in the bank and I'm am the lightest I have ever been since I was 14 yrs old. Because I decided to do this, no tricks, no magic, just "I'm doing this"[/quote]
