Jeez I get an F- for effort.

Yesterday was a snow day. Theyโ€™re so rare here, it was all about chocolate cheese and scones. No regrets.

Glad you stayed safe in your town that can't do snow well!

Saturday Freg! I have a batch of EatingWell's Spinach & Feta English Muffin Breakfast Casserole in the oven. Brunch today, along with RW Knudsen's Organic Pomegranate Juice. This is my 3rd time making this recipe, it's soooooooo good! Makes for easy breakfasts for hubby and I for another 2 days, also, b/c it reheats real well in the oven. I just put them on the plate we're going to eat from, and let it warm on 300-ish F, or so, for 15-mins or so ... Doesn't overcook if you leave it longer, and if you have plates that can go up to 350F, that works too, if you want it sooner. Yum!

Uncertain about later. Have a greens, dates, walnuts salad w/ coconut vinegar tentatively planned (my avo toast greens, but without the avo toast :D). Not sure about dinner. could be leftover crockpot braised chix & caramelized veggies, could be a nut smoothie from Raw Gen, could be a Smart Ones frozen meal, we'll see ...

Edit! oh, and a small banana, too! ๐ŸŒ

The snow finally made it here this morning. We're getting about an inch :p. So odd that the south is getting pummeled and we're getting basically nothing, here on the coast of ME.

    Happy Saturday!

Redeemed myself after yesterday. Lunch was a quinoa and green lentil bow with lots of veggies and homemade hummus

Dinner is fajitas with rainbow peppers and onion, chicken and London broil. โ€œSautรฉedโ€ in batches without oil, sauce is simply concentrated tomato paste whipped with A1.

394 calories for this heaping plateful of goodness, and a shedload left over (ermโ€ฆ.way more than expected) to make a gigantic batch of nachos.

I will look for them, Danny! :)

    Monday Freg ~
    • Spinach & Feta breakfast casserole (yum, and yay for leftovers)
    • New Raw Generation flavors today, Pina Colada protein nut smoothie (pineapples, cashews, dates, lime, coconut, vanilla), plus Blue sipper (Pink lady apple juice, Pineapple juice, Cucumber juice, Kiwi juice, Blueberry juice, Blue spirulina), and purple sipper (Pink lady apple juice, Strawberry juice, Gala apple juice, Mango juice, Purple sweet potato juice, Dragonfruit, Plum juice, Blackberry juice, Lime juice, Acai berry, Blue spirulina). Sippers are half-size juices meant to be palatable for kids, but what the heck, I added them to my build-a-boxes to try them out :).
    • a small banana
    • A Smart Ones frozen entree, or possibly leftover Crockpot Braised Chix & Caramelized Veggies. We'll see ...

The avocados I picked up over the weekend were the bagged kind, and I had the order shopped for me/ready to pick up. The shoppers picked a bag of all ripe avocados (same with the bananas, all ripe already). That's a drawback with pick up and go orders that include produce - the kids shopping it don't think about ripeness factor and product longevity :p. Anyway! When I made yesterday's avocado toast, the avo was peak ripeness, no way the bag of 6 would last. Sooooo, remembering Allie's comments about saving half avocados, I took it a step further, and opened all 6 avocados. I mixed up 6 'batches' of avocado mixture (1 avo, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice) - froze 4, put 1 in the fridge for tomorrow, and used 1 yesterday. I guess we'll see if it's just as good when prepped ahead! ๐Ÿคž.

The bananas are almost past prime. We got 8 of them, so 2/day (1 for hubby, 1 for me) means today's the last day, but really, yesterday was already past its prime. Maybe I won't have teenagers shop my avocados and bananas anymore ;-). They did fine with the greens and onions, tho :).

    Happy Monday, Team Freg!

    Happy Tuesday! Tuesday Freg ~

Definitely avo toast brunch day (I'll be seeing if making ahead 6 avocado mixes impacts the taste negatively - this one was in the fridge, I took one out of the freezer to defrost for Thu), so ... avocado, diced tomatoes, greens, chopped dates, walnuts, for sure. Some Raw Gen/Raw Ftn. A Lean Cuisine. Not sure what else yet, I don't know if I'll just stick with nut smoothie & juice for dinner, or will have food, too. We'll see.

I just typed up my intro for the new Hogwarts 8-wk term, starting next Monday. It included some of my fitness plans, so Imma copy here ^-^. The challenge didn't start yet, so I didn't make my 'Unbreakable Vow' yet, but it's definitely going to be greens again. I've gone with get at least 1 full serving of green freggies 4/x week for the last couple 4-wk Unbreakable Vow Challenges. Iidn't do well the first time, nailed it the second time (thanks, Team Green! ๐Ÿ’š), so it's time to up it. I *should* go to every day, but they do recommend 'wiggle room', so I'll just up it by 1 day/wk, for the first 4 wks. So, it'll be 'get at least 1 full serving of any green freggie at least 5 days/wk'.

I do focus on just freggies in general, but I don't love green freggies (lol) and seem to not choose them unless I'm intentional about it, so that'll be the challenge. Once I get to 'expert' level, I might consider only counting actual greens, but for now, I'm sticking with any green freggie ๐Ÿ˜.

My intro, in the Hogwarts challenge:

    Me:

    SLYTHERIN ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿโ‡๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงนโœจ๐Ÿ’ซ
58F, married, 1 adult daughter, 3 cats who are a hoot. I live in Maine, originally from New York, hubby originally from Wisconsin. We met in Boston where we went to school, and where daughter was born. I'm in weight loss mode. I set a goal of losing 60 lbs in July 2021 when I quit smoking (for the 4th? 5th? time), found a group of walkers on Fitbit who inspired me to hit an 18+ mos daily streak of 10k miles/day, when a knee injury sidelined me. Over that 18 mos, throughout a series of losses and plateaus, but no backsliding, I made half of my goal, losing 30 lbs. Post-injury, I broke my steps streak, walked 4-5-6k steps per day, stopped my efforts to hit fiber, veg, fruit, & protein goals, and gained it all back, plus another 20. I hit a new 'high' score last May, which was about 9 mos post-knee injury.

I gave myself a strict talking to, picked myself up, and started finding ways to move that didn't impact my knee so much. (I do a lot of 'fake stepping' now, sort of kind of marching in place, but with way more vigorous arm movements than leg movements). I just had a consult with an orthopedic surgeon last week - referral from my Sports Med doc. I thought I was going in for a knee replacement consult, but he's not keen on knee replacements for under 60 b/c of the likelihood of 'revision' down the road. Basically, he doesn't like replacing the same joint more than once in a lifetime, sooo ... another shot, and referral to PT, to see if it can be conservatively managed. Right, and he emphasized the potential benefits of weight loss, too ;-).

In addition to giving myself a strict talking to last May ;-), and trying to get moving again, I started food logging, rejoined the Hogwarts summer term (left after my injury on a trip in late Aug 2023, and didn't come back until the next summer term :p). I also started doing Prolon 5-day fasts last May. I did 4 consecutive monthly fasts from May to August, then another one at the end of December. (Skipped Sep and Oct b/c of planned lab tests, then Nov b/c consecutive viral infections (covid, throat) kept me sick most of November, and almost skipped December, too, but snuck a fast in during the last week :D ). Since May, I'v lost the 'plus another 20 #s', I'd gained, and started re-losing some of the initial 30 lbs I'd lost. My Fitbit says 54 #s to go. I'm feeling like that's an inevitability, not an aspiration. :). Here's to perseverance! I'm looking forward to re-losing all of the initial 30 lbs I had lost pre-injury, and carving new decades out of the back 30 ๐Ÿ˜„
    • I signed up for a couple wellness classes through our city's Adult Ed program last night, one is Functional Fitness Tuesdays, resistance bands, 1 hr workout on Tuesday evenings, 8 wks, starting Feb 25;
    • the other is Functional Fitness Thursdays, stability ball, 1 hr workout on Thursday evenings, 5 wks, starting Mar 20;
    • I also signed up for a fermentation class also through the Adult Ed program that coincides with an interest I'd developed in the last years but didn't follow through on - brewing your own Kombucha ๐Ÿถ. The fermentation classes are 3 wks, on Thursdays, starting on Feb 27, I only signed up for the 1st one, Kombucha, the other 2 are Sauerkraut (with decorations for gift giving), and Peppers, carrots, and beyond...
    • as well as some Conqueror Virtual Challenges (that I first read about here in Hogwart's during the last term!) last week. I got a New Year's bundle with a few challenges, but some free challenges. I'm thinking of tying a few of them to individual types of exercise that I'm not currently doing, but have 'aspired' to adding to my routine for a few years now, but never have (strength, flexibility, maybe meditation, def indoor biking).
    • My PT doesn't start until mid-Feb (a bit of a delay for initial appts). They've booked the first 3 appts. on Wednesdays, starting Feb 12 - Mar 5 (none the last week of Feb b/c the therapist is on vaca).
    • I booked a new member orientation at the gym I've been a member at for years, but haven't visited in years ether :p, for tomorrow.
    • Eyeing a stretch class, too. We'll see. But I hope to make regular visits for the bike a thing again. (I'd originally joined for an injury to the *other* knee, several years ago, but stopped going for bike rides b/c I'd taken up my 10k/day walking habit.)
    • I looked into an introductory yoga studio offer of 30 days unlimited classes for $30 (what a deal, right!?), but I didn't pull the trigger, b/c I thought I had enough new pokers in the fire. I'd like to take on a 30 classes in 30 days personal challenge, but I may wait until April, and see how my Feb and Mar plans go, first ;-).

That's probably enough of a book ;-). Wishing you all a happy and successful Term 53! โœจ๐Ÿค

Thursday ! checking in. Avo toast day, not sure what else yet. So, avocado, diced tomatoes, greens, pitted dates, walnuts for sure. A couple Raw Gen juices, too. And a lean cuisine. Mulling dinner, still.

I officially joined my first Conqueror Virtual Challenges last night :):
    • China to Turkey: Silk Road, Challenge bundle post check-out offer, Any 3 Original Challenges, $26.66 ($39.99) + $0 s/h = $26.66: 400 mi Story Mode: just the coasts, or 3,000 mi Long Mode: Xi'an, China to Antakya, Turkey, 16 or 29 virtual postcards, no StreetView. Start: Jan 15, 2025, #1, fitbit daily steps. I chose Long Mode, 3,000 mi - which I'll use for Fitbit daily steps. I set the term to 2 years.
    • Italy: St. Francis Way, Challenge bundle post check-out offer, Any 3 Original Challenges, $26.66 ($38.99) + $0 s/h = $26.66: 312 mi - an ancient Roman road, from Florence to the Vatican, Italy, 10 virtual postcards, has StreetView. I'll use for indoor cycling sessions. I set the term on this one also to 2 years.
    • Ireland: Ring Of Kerry, Challenge bundle post check-out offer, Any 3 Original Challenges, $26.66 ($35.99) + $0 s/h = $26.66: 124 mi - mystical Iveragh Peninsula in Ireland, 6 virtual postcards, has StreetView. I'm going to use Ring of Kerry for weight machines, and trainer sessions, at the gym. I also set this one's term to 2 years :).
    • Netherlands: Flower Route, Purchased, 20% off, $26.39 ($32.99) + $6.99 s/h = $33.38: 41 mi - the Netherlands, 4 virtual postcards, has StreetView. I'm going to use only dedicated walks either tracked, or auto-tracked, on my Fitbit, for the Flower Route (not daily steps/miles, which I'm using for the Silk Road). I set this one's term to 8 weeks.
You can set any term you like, up to 2 yrs, and you can adjust/reset/change both the term, and what activities you're tracking for each challenge, too. They have a conversion chart, to convert various activities into miles, so you can use things other than miles for your challenges, which is brill. There's a year-long Conquer 2025 challenge that I haven't started yet. I'm still mulling over what I want to use it for. Folks in the Conqueror Communities on Facebook (main one, and women over 50 one) have some pretty creative uses for the year long challenge, from organizing bookshelves, to decluttering, to reading books, to miles/km, and a whole bunch more. I'm still thinking :p .

I had my first 2 classes at the gym, a one-on-one new member session, where the trainer goes over your goals, current activity level, health challenges, and works up a personalized plan for you. And a second up to 3 member session, tho there were only 2 of us, stretch class, which didn't turn out to be a stretch class at all, but rather a weights machine class lol. The trainer said it doesn't matter what he puts on the schedule, he'll work on whatever the individuals want to work on :). I told him I wanted to learn about the weights machines, and Carl, my classmate, had also just had his first session with the trainer the day before, and wanted to work on weight machines, too, so that's what we did.

The trainer classes and sessions are totally free at Planet Fitness, and I gotta say, I feel like I scored a huge benefit. Nick, aged 22, was a delight. He'd recently moved to Maine from New York. Had a bunch of degrees under his belt, bachelor's in art, art history, from Trinity College in CT, and a couple of bachelor's degrees in sciences, too, from somewhere else, can't remember where. He taught Art History at Yale (!) to undergrads. And he was planning on getting a PhD in something related to physical therapy, but I can't remember what now, too, from University of New England, which is here in Maine. My classmate got his undergrad from Providence College in '64 (!) and a Master of Public Health from Yale. And both he, and the trainer, were huge basketball fans. Nick, the trainer, played at Trinity College. Carl, the classmate, didn't play, but was an avid fan. What impressed the hell out of me was Nick - 22 yo!! - actually knew by name some of the players from Providence College in the early 60s. Wow, right? It was so interesting listening to the two of them, one 22 and one 80, bond over basketball and Yale.

Nick was so young, but so old at the same time. He speaks Spanish and English, but was adopted at a young age from South Korea. He remembers touching down on the plane in Chicago, but doesn't remember South Korea at all. He has two families, I'm not sure how that works, but maybe a divorce or something would explain it. Anyway, he said his Dominican family is in New York (why he learned Spanish, he said he grew up speaking both), and he also said he moved to Maine to be closer to his adoptive family.

Like I said, I feel like I scored a big win, signing up for classes with him :).

    Sunday, checking in !

I've been alternating avo toast & Spinach Feta Breakfast casseroles each day, along with Raw Generation or Raw Fountain x 2 each day, and a Lean Cuisine each day. So, prettttyyyy boring, but I'm getting my freg in!

    I think I didn't check in b/c it's so boring/the same. lol

Starting January fast tomorrow! Kind of stressed about it tho, b/c we're getting 5-9", or 4-8", or somewhere around there, depending on the forecaster, of snow tonight into tomorrow, and you're not supposed to do any weights or strength training during your fast (to preserve lean muscle mass). Only light yoga, stretching, yoga, that sort of thing. Not shoveling snow for a couple hours ๐Ÿฅถ. The storm warning is in effect from 4p today, to 6a tomorrow. I don't know, maybe I'll go shovel the first bunch before/around midnight, and have a protein snack after? I mean, technically the fast doesn't start until you wake up, but midnight snacking isn't ideal, sooooo .... lol we'll see!

I saw a snow shovel. Once.

I just looked at him and used a broom, lol.

I have a whole 'stable' of shovels! The one I use to push into a pile, the one I use to throw into a pile, the one I use when there's not tons of snow and I don't need to push it first, the one with a good edge for scraping, and then my husband has a couple that are his favorites, too ๐Ÿคฃ

Monday check-in! January Fast started today - after a post-midnight 75 min shoveling workout, and a protein packed raw generation and protein kick lean cuisine! :p You're not supposed to do anything other than light walking, etc during the fast, so I tried to get as much as I could done last night. Plus, it was warmer last night, than today ;-). Today is 19F colder than yesterday. Gonna be cold this week - good time for soups! Hubby finished cleanup this morning, solo โค. We only got about 6.4 inches or so, according to the snow totals map a local station published, not the up to 9 inches that was forecast.

Day 1 of Prolon 5-day FMD, Round 6 for me! It's a little early for my Jan fast (it's only Day 19 after my last fast, recommended is 25 days between), BUT, the first of those getaways I was shopping for during my last fast is next Sun - Tue. Spa weekend at a local place, only about 20 mins away. That will be D7, so, only 1.5 days post-fast, but I'll be able to have my avocado toast Transition Day breakfast on Sat and Sun, so all good.

We're staying at Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth. They have great off-season deals for Maine Residents. We've booked a 75-min couples Swedish massage for Tues noon (we wanted Monday, but they were all booked up already, when we made reservations a couple weeks ago). Reservations at the (also on-site) Sea Glass Restaurant were also fairly well booked but we did book breakfast on Mon & Tue, as well as dinner on Mon. And we have ressies for dinner at The Good Table, which is also in Cape and is supposed to be pretty amazing as well (also tight with reservations - Sunday brunch was fully booked, but we got Monday dinner reservations). And plans for Monday lunch at a third local place, C Salt Gourmet Market. Feeling happily anticipatory for all of it.

Today, well, I woke up hungry today, lol. I had my Nut-based 'L-Bar', and Spearmint Lemon Herbal Tea w/ PG Tips black tea bag, combo. And my (disgusting) Algal-Oil Day 1 supplements. They're sooooo much more fishy than fish oil. And they keep repeating on you. heh

Prolon FMD, Round 6, Day 1 ! The week's Coach-led Zoom support meetings are with Coach Audrey (my fave!) and special guest Dr. Tiffany Moon. They have a special guest each of the four weeks of January Coach-led Zooms (none the first week of Jan). Today's box ~

    Your getaway sounds awesome.

Our daughter is moving to a Bad (aka bath or spa) town in Germany.

I made the mistake of convincing my husband to try a โ€œbadโ€ a couple years ago and weโ€™ve been to a couple since. Now heโ€™s obsessed. Heโ€™s salivating at the thought of her living in a spa town. I wonโ€™t complain.
