This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Today's Topic: New year, old connections?
Enough about what we’re gonna do different/better/more/less in the new year. Let’s talk about looking backwards.
Specifically? Who from GOAD, or the old WW message boards in general, are you still in touch with other than this hard-core group of diehards? (And is that answer part of your success or your struggles?)

I’m in touch with two, from time to time - Lee (lee.is.less) and Kathy (ksbruns). Both are still active on the WW Connect “social media” platform, and both are successfully within their goal range. I bump into Lee at least once a week on a regular weekly thread, and run into Kathy at least twice a month on some shared message or post. I’ve also been a regular lurker on BBB (Beyond Beer and Burgers) here on MFP, although I haven’t engaged.
I will say that Connect has improved from the original rollout - an event I resented because of the way WW handled it, and because I felt they misrepresented their intentions. It’s not quite the same “happy-speak only” environment, and by creating a variety of different groups, they’ve made it easier to find people who motivate you and with whom you want to associate. WW has closed a LOT of meetings, even pre-Covid, so virtual meetings are a large part of the community. There are, in fact, four virtual meeting targeted at Lifetime Members, and I find two of them helpful.
Which brings me full circle to my second question. I think staying in touch with old friends who “knew me when” is helpful to me. It’s two people with who me I can be direct and most honest, and who are willing to hold me accountable to walk the walk.2 -
I'm not in close touch with anyone anymore. I used to keep up with a few (virtual-)close friends on Facebook, but then I archived my account for a few years, and by the time I came back, that small group was no longer active.
This is pretty much my only WW contact at this point.
I never really had "weight-loss" friends in real life. I don't know if that's a plus or a minus.
I rely on Mrs. 0mania for help. What that really means is that I can tell her when I need to re-focus on weight loss, and she helps reduce some of the food-temptations that sometimes find their way home.2 -
The only one I', "friends" with (on FB) is Frank, aka Massrunner. There is a GoaD board on FB, and many old friends are there.2

Out side of here and the one FB GoaD board I don't have any of the old group. Nada, none no one. For a time I waffled between my fat secret platform and WW board. All have made changes. About all I have time to do on the FB board is just check in.
This is pretty much my only weight board I have time for. I'm still really busy with my Real Estate Company and my other activities. I have no plans on giving up her. I even dm checked in for 3 days when I was in the hospital 10/28-10/30 2024.1 -
This is it for me.1

I am FB friends with a bunch of the GoaD on the Run crew. Like most FB users, those guys are less active there than they were ten years ago. We have a GotR FB group, but it's not at all active.1

Al, please say hi to Frank for me.
Does anyone know of Cindy? I hope she is enjoying retirement on the beach.2 -
Not friends with anyone from WW GOAD group that migrated to MFP. It’s too bad about the reduced WW meetings although virtual is the wave of the future I think. WW and Noom are both chasing members who want the GLP-1 solution to weight loss. Big profits in that for both businesses. Other than the long break I took, this group is it for me2

I'm not on FB or any other social media, do this group is it for me (since 2011 with a small break.) I'm extremely thankful for this group. I find it incredibly helpful to post and read here even if there's not a much activity as on the old GOAD WW board.
I've been wondering about Podkey. Anyone know how he's doing?1 -
I lurk there; haven’t seen him there in a year or more. 🤷🏻♂️0
