Recovering from the flu. Thankfully my fever only lasted 1 day, but now I'm dealing with congestion and not breathing through my nose at night. My husband is on a work trip this week. So, he's missing all my snoring.

I'm Laura, about to turn 44. My husband and I just celebrated 20 years. I started homeschooling our 5 kids 3 years ago. The oldest is 15 and youngest just turned 4. We live in North Texas on 3 acres. We have honey bees and 19 chickens.3 -
I gained this week. 190.4. I am not overly surprised. Mentally I have not bounced back since Saturday. I have been stress eating at work. I need to get control over this!2

I can’t believe I made it into the 180’s. Let’s hope it keeps going that way. That’s because I had been working with toddlers for the last month. Half the time I didn’t get to eat or I would find my food half eaten someplace 3 hours later. I put a stop to that on Monday. I quit my job. I did have a new one lined up though.

Welcome new members and welcome back to everyone else. I’m Tracy, 52 and live in new Hampshire. This year I will be married for 30 years and we plan on taking a trip to Aruba. I have 2 boys, 1 is getting married this year. I also have 3 grandkids. I worked at my job in childcare for 25 years. In Aug they hired a new regional director and she made life hell for all. I was the director and she was making me take the fall for all her mistakes. Well last Thursday I gave my notice and on Monday I decided I wasn’t going to full fill it. That’s not something I would normally do. I only felt horrible for my granddaughter because she was there with me and she is having a hard time with me not being there. We hope that she will be removed from that school soon. I had a new job lined up and I am an assistant director in childcare. Anyways rant over.
I have been in this group a long time and I usually gain and lose the same 5 pounds but I am very happy to see that I have kept losing. I have been having back and leg issues. They say it’s time for surgery not I don’t want to do that with just starting the job. I had maybe wanted it before. I’m a little scared of having back surgery. I’m going to try yoga again but I hate yoga and try getting back into walking. It’s just tough. I was paying myself for working out but that didn’t really keep me motivated lol. But I will find something to help me keep going.

@ljdanny CONGRATULATIONS on getting into the 180s!! That’s fantastic!!
I really do recommend yoga and walking over surgery. My husband was going to need surgery for his arm due to nerve pain and also possible surgery for back pain, and yoga has resolved both issues for him. We go to a class or two every week at our local Y. Even if you don’t like it, if you commit to doing it once or twice a week IT WILL help!

@ljdanny - woot, congrats on getting into the 180s! 🎉I'm trying to get back into gradual exercise again after back problems (thankfully not to the level of needing surgery). Have you possibly tried pilates? I've found a lot of the time if people hate yoga they quite like that - and vice versa. I used to do it a few years ago and it did help my back a lot. I should really try getting back to it lol.

Well, TGI Friday at least, it's seemed like a long week! I was very good and resisted caramel shortcake at work today, and then someone decided to put one on my desk 'in case I change my mind'Left it there so it really better have gone when I'm back in next week lol. Forgot to take lunch with me as well so the only option was Starbucks - had a no-chicken wrap, which wasn't terrible on the calories but I'm trying to avoid 'fast food' places as they've def been my downfall before.
Hoping the weather stays nice this weekend so I can get a bit longer walk in.2 -

Well, I suppose at least I didn't go up. I am having a really hard time at the moment, very stressful and very tiring at work. I really struggle to plan meals and make healthy choices when I don't know what's happening. 2 more weeks to go before half term, I can't wait to have a week off.
My friend kindly gave me 3 recipe books so my plan this weekend is to have a look and chose a couple of meals that I can batch prep for the week
@daria0919 with the time difference I missed Friday so I will do Saturday, Sunday and Monday
I commit to
1- avoid chocolate snacking
2- do either a pilates or a yoga workout
@ljdanny well done on your loss! I second @podperson1 pilates is also good for bad back. I did it when I hurt my back and throughout my pregnancy and it really helped2 -
Thanks everyone for being cheerleaders, I hope my weight keeps going down. I have been doing well with eating my lunch because I’m very limited on what I can bring to my new job. We are not completely set up so there’s no microwave, I have been bringing cheese and crackers, veggies and dip. Drinking a lot of water.
I did piyo this morning, a cross between Pilates and yoga. I have some videos and then I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I think I should have walked first. I am going to try to get back into doing this daily. Even though I didn’t like it at all, lol.2 -

Back pain has also stopped me from getting out for my long walks and as usual peri menopause likes to bring me down and make life harder😩…. Tomorrow is a new day to get back to it 🤞🏻2 -

Steps team, we missed 1.5 million by about 4100 steps. That is still pretty impressive!
Sorry this is so late...I'm better, theoretically but this flu going around is brutal. I still have a lingering cough and fatigue. Coupled with a crazy work load, I kinda struggling.
If you want to join the step challenge for Febuary:Just post your steps by the end of Wendnesday after the week ends. I'm flexible and might wait a day or two for you. I'm Melanie, 48 and I'm from Kansas. I’m the other team Co-captain. Truly, Ashley does most of the heavy lifting. I generally do the steps challenge.
Welcome to February! Sometimes I post an intro and sometime I forget until the last week. I've been on MFP for a long time (more on that in spoilers, if you're interested). I am happily childfree, married for 24 years and I don't love exercise but I do like walking. I need to lose weight to aid medical conditions and because I don't like what I see in the mirror.
The rest is my standard stuff, read it or don't; don't if you've been around a while and already did, up to you.
My (really short version) storyOnce upon a time, I was very skinny and could eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. I was pretty active and took meds that probably ramped up my metabolism (and put me at risk of severe medical problems). But that was a long time ago and things are different. Now I an the opposite of skinny, stress eat and I look at anything yummy and gain five pounds. I need to lose 80 lbs.My special snowflake challengesI'm fairly significantly asthmatic (on meds all the time).What I do about it
I have terrible allergies, mostly mold. Which is literally everywhere. And cats. Anything that doesn't have square pupils (but not things with square pupils!?! I have no problem with squid, apparently!), including people sometimes.
I have migraines.
And I have connective tissue issues (not enough collagen, too stretchy, lots of joint slippage).
August 2020, I acquired some vertigo problems and persistent deafness on one side. Yay. Fall of '23 the ENT decided to call it Meniere's and recommend hearing aids, which are good.I take glucosamine and collagen supplements for the connective tissue problem. When I have bad days, I also drink collagen peptides (but I really dislike them). I've been supplementing with Vitamin C for decades, not really knowing why. In the past few years, I learned Vit C helps the body produce and process collagen. Suddenly, my lifelong obsession with the C makes sense.What is the point behind all this?
My neurologist recommended I take 500 mg of ginger and 400 mg of Vitamin B2 every day to reduce migraines, it has helped a lot. The migraines are so much better (almost non-existent) and manageable when they happen. The ginger also helps with the vertigo. I have no excuses for not doing exercise when the vertigo is managed, except for being lazy.
After adding some nasal sprays and sinus irrigation, adjusting my diet a bit, adding copious amounts of ginger, and stopping coffee (EXTREMELY, TERRIBLY sad), I’ve got the vertigo mostly under control.The special snowflake stuff is not woe-is-me drama llama. It is that everyone has to do what works for them now. The stuff a lot of people go on about (like HITT) are not good for me, and are sometimes dangerous, for me. Sometimes people get down on themselves because they don't do the stuff everyone talks about (HIIT, Insanity, stair steppers, etc). I not only don't do those things, I shouldn't. But I should exercise.My GoalsMy daily goal to get about 30 minutes of walking a day at least during the week isn't doing much for me. I try to get a walk in otherwise but frequently fail.
Anyway, I've been with WNM for a long while now. Early days, I lost a lot but blah blah blah, it came back and brought friends. I changed jobs in April '24. The new job gives me opportunity to I move more but I also drive a lot and do a lot of documentation, which means sitting at a computer so...I don't move enough. I mentioned a crazy workload in a different post...I work in human services now and carry a caseload. Before Christmas, I was managing to keep my caseload stable at about 30 ish. Between a lot of people being on vacation/leave, ridiculous weather and several wacky recent events, my caseload is closer to 50 right now, which is stressing me out.

I went over my calorie goal a few times this week and thought for sure I’d at least have maintained my weight if not gained, but it dropped today. Unexpected but welcome.
How do you all handle hunger? I am just starting out with this lower calorie goal and trying to eat lots of protein and fiber, but sometimes I still feel hungry. I think I need to tweak my meals and snacks slightly, to eat a little more snacks and focus on high volume foods in general.

Think about one thing you can do today or tomorrow to help you make your week go more smoothly. It could be food related, exercise related, or everyday life related. Plan ahead first this one thing for this coming week.
My one thing for this week: I washed and cut up some fruits and vegetables and put them in storage containers so that I can just grab them quickly and also turn to them if I have the urge to snack or start to binge.

Something to help with my week: I made some cheese and broccoli egg cups to bring for lunch at work. I am trying to be more organised with meal prephere is my breakfast of fruit and yogurt with flaxseed and my lunch: 2 egg cups, a healthy carrot cake muffin and an orange
