Helloooo!

Hello there guys and ladies! My name is Amy and I live in the Middle Tennessee area.
I am T2 and have been for over a year, honestly can’t remember how long.
For over six months or so, I stayed at such a low A1c that I didn’t even really consider myself diabetic and so I ate whatever I wanted and did whatever I wanted exercise wise, which wasn’t much.
I’ve been dealing with a lot of pain issues that barely led me to be able to walk without a cane or walker. I had surgery the end of October and it eased up a lot of my pain, but not all.
Recently though I decided enough is enough when my A1c got to 8.9. My doctor put me on Mojarro and I’ve decided to go on the keto diet. I haven’t really actually started it yet because I can’t seem to put the sugar down my carbs are not what they should be even though I’m trying so hard.
I’m having a hard time reaching out for recipes because they just don’t sound good and I don’t really want to try them. Or some I’ve tried and I just can’t stand. I have no idea what the heck to do. I get my daily keto meter in a few days and I don’t wanna let my nutritionist down.
I’ve started swimming and I start working out in about a week with the trainers where my nutritionist works.
I would love to make friends here, and my fitness pal has really helped me understand my eating habits and how they fit into my diet plan.

    Hey Amy...

I keep my net carbs under 10 most days, and I consider myself keto. In the keto group there was some guy who told me I was not because I was not checking ketones, and so I call it "very low" carb these days typically.

I have been eating this way since 2016, and I got my A1C low enough that my doctor took me off meds. I manage the BG with diet now.

I have bacon and eggs for breakfast as a rule. I put heavy whipping cream in my first cup of coffee.

Lunch today was leftover meatloaf (no breadcrumbs in the recipe).

For supper I will have roasted pork tenderloin and cole slaw I make.

I had a tablespoon of all natural peanut butter as a snack.

For supper I usually have roasted meat and a steamed veggie.

    Hello Amy.
It sounds like keto isn't going to work for you. If you don't like what you are seeing so far then you aren't going to stick to that way of eating. But just because you are diabetic doesn't mean you need to do keto or stay away from carbs. I don't count my carbs at all.

I do stay away from foods that are sweet or have added sugar. I build my meals around protein and try to get as much fiber in as I can. I still eat rice and corn even though they have a high glycemic index. I did eliminate them from my diet once so I have been able to compare the results from monitoring my blood sugar between the two. I have found that controlling my serving size still allows me to eat these foods and keep my blood sugar between 80-110. My carbs can very from between 50-140 depending on what I eat during the day.

You will find a way of eating that works for you. It doesn't have to be over night.
