    3. How did you learn about the 5% Challenges?I joined the very first 5% challenge on Spark People in the Spring of 2010.
    4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back.Of the 63 5% challenges, I have done 62. I missed the Winter Challenge of 2020 because I wanted to go to TOPS with my Mom. When Covid shut everything down, I came back to the challenge and leadership just in time to help with the move to MFP. After being away for that short time, I realized, "There is no place like home!"
    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live.I live in a small town along the Susquehanna River in Central PA. I'm 20 miles South of South Williamsport, PA, the Birthplace of Little League Baseball"! The view in the picture is a 2-minute walk from my house. It's my go-to place to sit and de-stress. There is something so relaxing about watching the moving water.

    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season?I had great results in the Winter challenge by working the program as presented by the OALs, meaning I followed the Healthy Habits in addition to my regular eating habits and exercise routines. I'm hoping to continue the same.
    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I love Spring! Even with seasonal allergies, I love being outside! I love the scents and sounds of Spring, and I love walking outside!
    8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Endurance walking, Yard Work

    11. What always cheers you up?My GrandPrincesses, my Mom, and my cats. If I get down about what life brings my way, I remember that I am trying to live my life with eternal value.
    12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share?Find what works for you and keep doing it
    13. Please share two fun things about you. After 10 years of being sick most of the time and being found lifeless twice, I am having my first healthy year since 2013. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment and being my own advocate have helped more than the hundreds (ok, that's an exaggeration, but you get the idea) of medical specialists I've seen.
    14. Anything else you would like to share? Prayers and good wishes to all for a successful Spring!

Since the Winter of 2011, stepped up as a leader and remain as such since the Spring of 2011. No regrets!! My biggest WIN is BYE BYE 110 lbs, so many Non Scale Victories, (NSV) including being able to function and look like a regular human. I love fitting in and not standing out because of my size. WHO KNEW!!???
    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live.
    Greater Portland Maine area. State of the best Lobstah!! LOL I do not like them though. This is a huge tourist area, this summer friends and I want to be TOURISTS!! That excites me so much!! I grew up here and so much I DO NOT KNOW!!

    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Track my food, lose a few more lbs. I am struggling health wise, but my goals are to hit my steps. They may not seem like any, but to me they are not easy to hit at 2,100 a day.
    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I am a HUGE WINTER FREAK!!! Spring makes me cry so as it rains (A LOT in April!) I pretend it's crying for me. LOL
    8. What are your favorite Spring activities? NO JACKETS or gloves!! WOOHOO!!! If I can do much its walking!! There's something about being in nature that is wicked relaxing!!!
    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? Walking in the past it'd of been SPRING SKIING!! No jacket needed or gloves!!!
    10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? Walk with no doubt!!
    11. What always cheers you up? THese foolish goofballs!! Izzy is the brown/black kitty (she's 15!) and Oscar will be 3 in May. WOW! Got him at 9 months old, it doesn't seem like its been that long!

    12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? TRACK your food and later after you track it add in your exercise, but do not eat more calories (Well it works for me!!)
    13. Please share two fun things about you. Weird sense of humor and weird family, but LOL We adore that.
    14. Anything else you would like to share? When at any type of gathering (Bday, wedding etc, BBQ LOL A favorite of mine) make it way more about the PEOPLE not the food. Its amazing how much this has helped me. I am able to select carefully this way. My good times does not come from "What I ate" but instead "People who I talked to" and if it's not a fun one, LEAVE (That's extremely rare in my case, but if you are not happy somewhere no need to be there).

    3. How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I joined the 5% Challenges back in 2010. I found out about them after they had already started their first round. I was put on a waitlist with a bunch of others who were waiting for the 'next' Challenge to begin. When it did, the group that I was on a waitlist with were added as a new team to the 5% Challenges and since we started around the 4th of July that year, we became known as The Firecrackers.
    4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I'm not sure anymore ... if Ceri has done 62, I probably have done 60. I missed the first one, joined in the 2nd round and then missed only 1 or 2 rounds through the years. I've had Challenges where I have done exceptionally well and others that my goal was never reached ~ I come back season after season because I have made some friends in the Challenge Community and I come back because there is always something new to learn and there is always someone that I can give support to and I can always rely on the 5% Challenge Community to support me when I need it most.
    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live in a small town in Western NJ, very close to the PA border and about 1/2 hour from the Crayola Factory in PA.
    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? To continue on my successful path that I have started in 2025.
    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I L*O*V*E Spring! It signals the end of Winter and also signifies renewal ...
    8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Getting outside more.
    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? No matter the season ~ if I have to exercise, I enjoy walking.
    10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? Walk. Gardening is WAY DOWN on the list of things that I would 'rather' do.
    11. What always cheers you up? Spending time with my daughter and any/all family and friends.
    12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? REMEMBER the basics and when you are struggling or trying to figure out how to get started, please remember count your calories and get moving. CICO (Calories In/Calories Out).
    13. Please share two fun things about you. I love live theatre, especially musical theatre and I love to get on stage to perform. My first 'real job' was years ago, as a travel agent and I was fortunate enough to be able to travel from EWR to Athens for a WEEKEND!
    14. Anything else you would like to share? I'm a wife & mother. When my father passed in August of 2022, my brother and I share the duties of taking care of Mom (he cooks and gets her to doctor's appointments) and I help to take care of her books. My husband is going through cancer treatment(s) and I try to support him as best as I can. My DD recently split from her husband and I've tried to help her and support her as she left their home and got an apartment; I've supported her through her job and the search for a new one; I continue to support her as she tries to close the door on this chapter in her life and formulates a plan to look for new adventures and opportunity. I am still working F/T but hope to get to the point where I can (at the very least) semi-retire very soon (fingers crossed).

    The camaraderie

    The encouragement

    The chance to share the ups and downs of my life and the other members. Often when I share someone will come back with suggestions of what I might try because they’ve been there before me.

    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live.

    I’m in Fife, Scotland across the Forth from Edinburgh

    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season?

    Goals

    Do the best I can and push a bit further out of my comfort zone. Add a bit more steps to my daily walk (and make it daily, I won’t melt in the rain). Lose some weight and inches.

    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not?

    I like Spring for

    The warmer weather, the colourful flowers, the lambs gambolling in the fields.

    The downside

    It shows up the dusty corners I’ve avoided in the winter

    The weeds grow apace as does the lawn and I keep a large home garden, my friend’s garden and help maintain the church garden. Hence much of my exercise minutes are functional minutes

    8. What are your favorite Spring activities?

    Listening to the birds chirping, watching the lambs and getting absorbed in the gardens

    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise?

    I don’t do heights but I’ve abseiled from the Forth Rail Bridge for charity sponsorship. I like holidays that are unusual. Eg walking with penguins in Antarctica, sleeping in the Ice Hotel in Sweden and watching polar bears from the safety a tundra buggy in Churchill Canada. I’m single with no offspring to support.

    11. What always cheers you up? Watching Instagram Stories with animals and little children. When our gym toddler comes to visit

    13. Please share two fun things about you. I love reading self development books and listening to both self development podcasts as well as sports podcasts. My favorites are Real AF with Andy Frisella, The Process of Becoming with Josh and Dino, When Mamas Rise Up with Jenna and Liz, New Heights with Travis and Jason Kelce and Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.

    14. Anything else you would like to share? I love to begin my day with a hydration drink before drinking protein coffee.

    4. I lost 100 lbs during this process along with Weightwatchers and some healthier authors teaching me to eat more plant-based and unprocessed foods.

    5. Home with views of Lake Superior and the Gulf of Mexico.

    6. Walking, dancing and strength training. 30 minutes daily, 210 minutes weekly.

    7. I love Spring and the transformation from beautiful white snow to fresh green leaves, grasses, and flowers.

    8. Walking where waterfronts and nature is enjoyed. I love my faith-based small groups, worship, lunches and activities at both local senior centers.

    9. I enjoy walking the most.

    11. Good news, happy people, and smiles.

    12. Tracking and team participation are my biggest aids. Even buffets, when eating out help in both joy and discipline. I do love eating out and variety.

    13. One of the funniest things that happened to me is, as my keys are often pinned to my pants when I’m hiking parks, they inadvertently fell into an outhouse. Fortunately I was able to get a park ranger to save me from the only key I had to my vehicle with two guests with me. Seeing a 1000' carrier ship's living quarters at dusk on Lake Superior brings a smile to this water lover.

    14. With some sense of humility, I pray, I feel accomplished when I helped a group of people in my church learn the art, design, and build 12 stained glass windows. This also holds true for the many prayer shawls I continue to make for God, which ultimately gets distributed through many of my church groups.

    Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I pay attention to my weight, my diet and exercise and am making friends along the way.


    5. What major city do you live in or near? I live between Prince George and Princee Rupert in the provnce of BC, Canada.

    Tell us a bit about where you live.I live on a rural property with a mountain and lake view. It is in north western Canada and the closest state is Alaska.


    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I would like to lose a few pounds, become fitter and more able to do long walks as well as to gain strength and flexibility.


    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I love Spring after a long winter. I love the flowers, colors and freedom of movement without thinking about falling on ice or being encumbered by heavy,clothing.


    8. What are your favorite Spring activities?
    It is usually too cold to swim in the lake, but hiking is fun, gardening, having coffee on my deck in the sunshine.

    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? I'd like to ride my bike again, but have not been able to do that,but jogging in my long driveway to music is always fun.


    10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house?
    Walking and gardening beat housework for me hands down.

    11. What always cheers you up? My grandchildren enjoying outdoor activites and discovering the beauty of nature and the fun of movement is wonderful for me.


    12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Planning my dinner in the morning and exercising early are important to me.

    I am old enough that styles and clothes from my past are becoming fashionable again. I can wear my old bell bottom jeans and look up to date. My husband says that I am so easy to tease.

    3. How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? Oooooh! It was one of the groups I tried on SparkPeople.

    4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I don't even know. I think it was 2010 when I started, but I've been here for sure ever since the switch to MFP.

    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. We live in Livingston, TX; closes major city is Houston. We live right next to The Big Thicket national forest area. We are surrounded by pines and nature. The back of our property is next to trails throughout The Big Thicket, and a creek meandering around our property keeps anyone else from have access. It's not ours by ownership, but it's ours to use. We help maintain it. So, SO beautiful! SUCH a gift of God after being in Mexico so many years!

    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Well, I've been a few rounds wanting to get back down into Onderland. I'm still striving for that, but I know that the main thing that will help me accomplish both the weight goal and better health is getting back off sugar.

    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I LOVE SPRING! I love gentle breezes, the life after winter, flowers, birds, trees . . . you get the idea!

    8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Hiking, gardening, outdoor home improvement.

    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? Walking/hiking.

    10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? Take a walk every time!

    11. What always cheers you up? When love shows up in a call, text, or act of kindness. It's especially sweet when it comes from my husband (and that happens a LOT). Now that our newest grandson is old enough to coo, smile, and interact . . . one of his smiles is like sunshine love!

    12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Plan and exercise first. Everything else will demand its place in your day.

    13. Please share two fun things about you.
    I'm not sure how to answer that. I think of myself as more interesting than fun. I'm bilingual (and know conversational bits of about 4 other languages). I've had a lot of different career paths in my life, and now at 71 I'm teaching high school again. Who knew I'd STILL be in high school at 71???!!!?? Most of my students think I'm fun—mostly because I care about them so much and bake them cookies.

    14. Anything else you would like to share? My husband and I planted a small Hispanic church here where we live, because we saw nothing available for them. It's quite the juggle of responsibilities, but it is our great privilege and honor to keep working for the Kingdom of God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Picture above is of my husband dedicating our grandson. Baby was SO taken with the sound of my husband's voice and cooed and smiled more that day than ever, almost as if he sensed or understood the significance. It was pretty amazing.

    5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live in Dover New Hampshire, a small town, about 90 minutes drive from Boston.
    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Maintaining in my goal range, get stronger, stay healthy
    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? Yes! Everything comes back to life, including me!
    8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Birding! Also hiking, bicycling, and walking.
    9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? Walking is what I do most, in every season.

Denver Metro area, Colorado; my favorite place to live - I was born, raised, and lived in Chicago suburbs for 30 year and have lived in Colorado for 32+ years. The forest and the mountains are my happy place (unless I can be at the beach).
    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Lose weight and continue with fitness program
    7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? Yes, because it’s light outside longer in the day and I love the warmer weather

    6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Continue Running Half Marathons and trying out for the Senior Olympics in April 10K. Continue Cardio, Strength and some Yoga. I need to improve on the Yoga.

    This is my first challenge, but I've previously kept off a ~50 lb (25%) weight loss for around 15 years…it took a pandemic to bring 25 of it back!

( I usually fill some of it in the night before) Then add and/or modify it before and after what you do eat. If you truly want to go over target calories- justify it and then try to burn it off with extra exercise. If not today- go strong tomorrow!

    13. Please share two fun things about you. I retired after 35 years at a stressful job. Now I work part-time as a nanny. My husband and I could live off the grid if need be. We have a wood stove. Grow, can and freeze vegetables. Raise chickens. Stocked up on frozen venison. 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾
