For my Birthday, Hunter had gotten us tickets for the 2024 Extraordinary Women's conference that was this past Saturday. We had a great time. My throat was a little scratchy when we went and by the time we left, I was losing my voice. I attributed it to all of the singing and praising during the conference. And lots of laughter because Chonda Pierce was the final speaker. If anybody is not familiar with her, she is a hoot of a comedian! My voice was getting more hoarse yesterday and then I woke up today feeling awful with complete laryngitis. I am so thankful that I have the option to work from home when I'm sick. I slept until 10 and I've been doing my reports for work since then. Constantly sipping on green tea with mint. Hopefully since my throat hurts and I don't really want to eat too much, it will help get me regulated back to better food choices. I am happy that I had a teeny tiny loss this week. But I'm definitely going to hunker down and focus for this week. I hope everybody has a marvelous Monday and don't forget to drink your water!

ICE BREAKER QUESTION: What is the last thing you searched for?Hunter and I went out to dinner on Friday night and I had Oliver with me. When we left the restaurant, I specifically remember putting his little Carhartt hat on him. Somehow during the 30 minute car ride back to his house, it had disappeared. We searched my car inside and out that night (cuz he loves to whip it off and throw it), along with outside in the parking lot of Syd’s apartment complex. The next day, Syd stopped by and searched my car again. She also called the restaurant to see if it was left there. His hat is nowhere to be found. So now I am on the hunt to buy him a replacement.

    Hello, Slimsters!

This has not been the best week. Not disastrous but not in the green. I am out to make up for it this week.

On the plus side — I got in over 13K steps today, including a 45-minute stairstep session!

Looking back on my week, I think both food and movement need to improve. I am leading a scout camping trip Friday through Sunday. sigh I will plan out and take my own food for that, so I don't end up living on energy bars. And will log everything. Between now and then, I will work at not overeating as a way of dealing with being nervous about this trip.

@BobBoyardee Good job! That's great that you've changed your self-talk. Keep it up!

@AnAbsoluteDiva Congrats on the loss and have a great week!

@vegan4lyfe2012 I'm glad you had a good time at the conference. That sucks that you got sick! I'm glad you get to work from home. I'm glad the scale is going down for you. Too bad about the hat, I hope you find a replacement.

@AustinRuadhain Good job with the exercise!

Good morning, everyone! Yesterday was a very busy day at work. I didn't even get everything done that I needed to get done, so I will continue the project today. I've finally figured out my "full" signal, some people's full signals after surgery can be sneezing, burping, hiccups, a runny nose...etc. but mine is that I start to feel slightly nauseous. Not the funnest signal to have but it's good to know about it. I made Kale-Walnut Pesto Pasta, which is one of my favorite pasta recipes. I can only eat a small amount of it but I enjoyed it. This morning, I have to take one of my dogs to the vet and then go in to work.

    Tracked yesterday? Yes

    @trooworld : Great question!

At the top of the list for me is Be Conscious of My Intake. That means food tracking. So, yes, I need to make sure to track today, because this is going to be a long day!

@trooworld Yes, I can see how your meal planning is just as frustrating as mine. I do take a high dose of biotin, and I’ve been rubbing Castor Oil and Rosemary oil into my scalp. I have a lot of new hair growth at my temples, but the back of my head is where I notice the most thinning. I’m considering splurging and trying some of that WOW Volumizing hair spray I see all over TikTok. 😀What fun to sit and do art and have people come up and comment! It is great that your SIL is supportive and loves your work enough to buy it. 🙂

@AnAbsoluteDiva Thank you for your kind words. Our special equipment to help him get off the floor arrived yesterday, and I hope to practice using it later today. Of course, like the other day, the issue was that once he had a UTI and passed out, he was incoherent, and following instructions was almost impossible. I go through things I don't discuss, but I know you understand some of the tough things we caregivers are called to do. Not for the weak, that is for sure! 🫤

@vegan4lyfe2012 What a great women’s conference! I saw Chonda Pierce several years ago, and she is hilarious! Yikes to getting laryngitis, and I hope you take it easy and that your voice returns soon. I once had laryngitis while running a daycare and those little heathens took full advantage of my infirmity.  😂

Good morning! Ugh I had my first gain of the year! 😫 At least it wasn’t as much as I thought. I will buckle down, and it will come off, and then there will be some this week! Today, I have to take Joe back to his oncologist because last week, he was upset by his low blood pressure. He put him on a steroid this week and wants to check him out. After that, we have to meet the pest control guy at the church, and I’m hoping he isn’t running late. No workout today, but I will try to get on my vibration plate later this afternoon. Have a good day!

Question: In times of stress, how do you not turn to food? It can be hard when turning to food, which I’ve repeatedly done. But it can be done by pre-planning and knowing that food will not solve my stress. Finding other coping mechanisms like exercise, prayer, and talking to my bestie are much better ways than stuffing my face with food that doesn’t love me back.

In times of stress, how do you not turn to food? I write. I get out a notebook and write, write, write ✍️. I ask myself questions and answer them. I complain and rant. When I feel like I've done a complete brain dump, I stop writing and go back to read what I wrote. Then I circle the things that feel true. I cross out the angry whining BS. Then I take on the true things one at a time and come up with an action plan for each one, set priorities, and make a schedule. Sometimes the action plan is to wait and see. Boy is that frustrating. But if I've looked at the stressor from every angle and acknowledged that there's no action that I can take to balance it, then I have no choice but to accept it and let it play out.

    Hi 👋

Had to do some running around yesterday. After that, I really didn't do much of anything. I'm waiting for a call from my dr and hopefully, see about looking into my knee a bit deeper. Besides that, not much going on. Enjoying a quiet morning for now.

@trooworld - I was able to find a replacement on the Carhartt website. It's supposed to arrive on Friday. Can I get that pesto pasta recipe, please?

@TeresaW2024 – Heathens! Hahahaha! I hope everything is good with Joe. And that was the tiniest gain ever, so I would say you're doing a fantastic job this year!

Laryngitis is still going strong and I didn't wake up today until after noon. Happy to say that yesterday I was able to find a replacement Carhartt hat for Oliver, so that's taken care of. I'm going to be teaching a card making class at church for the women on Saturday. I put together a birthday card for everybody to make and got all of the kits put together. Now I just have to put together kits for an Easter card for everyone. Looks like it's gonna be a small group as I only have 8 people signed up. But that makes it easier to share everything. Think I'm gonna relax a little bit before I work on that. I hope everybody has a great evening and don't forget to drink your water!

In times of stress, how do you not turn to food?

I still have a really difficult time with this. I am trying to turn more to tea - not just sipping it, but writing reviews and taking photographs and posting them online. That takes some time and concentration. Gives me something else to focus on.

So I still get friend requests from time to time. The latest did the typical scammer thing, how are you? What’s your fitness goals, I don’t monitor this app a whole lot can we chat somewhere else? So I did what I do and called them a scammer. Of course they deny it but they stop messaging. I went looking and this one changed their username and profile picture. What once was a light skinned female is now a dark skinned male. Yeah probably not a scammer at all. Lol

Yay my Bike got fixed today I can't wait to take it for a ride tomorrow. It's been hot here so I will go in the morning when its cooler. I've been having a really bad flare. I got up in the night to use the bathroom, I fell down and could not get back up. My husband got up and helped me. It was the strangest thing. I was hurting all over and couldn't think straight. I'm better now, but I still feel sick. I'm also having an IBS Flare at the same time which is quite painful. Naps are helping. Hopefully next week will be better. I'm sure Bike ride will make me hurt more but I need to get out of the house, and I can take it easier and use the battery power more.

@AustinRuadhain How'd you do with tracking yesterday?

@TeresaW2024 It sounds like you are doing all you can to minimize the hair loss. I hope if you get the WOW stuff that it helps. It was fun to do the art! My SIL is very supportive, I love her so much! I'm sorry about the gain. I hope all went well at the oncologist and the pest control guy wasn't late.

@vegan4lyfe2012 Oh that's good, I'm glad you found it and it will arrive pretty quickly. Yes! Here it is, it used to be on the Rachel Ray website but I don't know if it is still there:

    Kale-Walnut Pesto Pasta (4 servings)
1⁄2 bunch kale stems discarded and leaves coarsely chopped
    1 pound gemelli pasta
    1⁄4 cup chopped walnuts toasted
    1 clove garlic chopped
1⁄2 cup grated parmesan cheese plus more for sprinkling
    Salt and pepper
    1⁄4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

In a large pot of salted water, cook the kale until tender, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the kale to a colander and rinse with cold water. Add the pasta to the pot and cook until al dente. Drain, reserving 1/3 cup of the pasta cooking water. Return the pasta to the pot.

Meanwhile, squeeze the kale to remove the excess water. In a food processor, combine the kale, walnuts, garlic and parmesan until almost smooth; season with salt and pepper. With the machine running, add the olive oil.

Add the pesto to the pasta, along with enough pasta cooking water to loosen the pesto as necessary. Serve sprinkled with more parmesan.

@vegan4lyfe2012 Sorry about still being sick. That's cool that you are teaching a cardmaking class! I think any more than 8 people would be a lot to handle. I drank more water yesterday than I have been drinking. I enjoy your tea posts. :)

@19shmoo69 I don't even bother accepting requests from someone unless they are a part of this group. I'm glad you knew they were a scammer and put them in their place lol.

@FushiaKat I'm glad your bike got fixed. Sorry about the flare, that must have been scary.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: In times of stress, how do you not turn to food?
Ugh. This is a hard one. I usually try to distract myself somehow: crafts, researching something on the internet, etc. but I am not always successful.

Hi all. My condo building has a slab leak underneath it. We discovered it because our condo has been really hot and humid for the past couple of weeks, so we asked them to check it out. Now, the hot water is off while they fix it, it's been off since Monday. Hopefully it will be back on today at some point. It's always something with this condo. Work was busy yesterday, especially busy because I was only there half day because of the vet appointment. Hopefully today is a little less chaotic lol. I made a nice salad for dinner with toasted pecans, reduced-sugar dried cranberries, apples, and goat cheese over lettuce. I added chicken breast for protein.

    Tracked yesterday? Yes

@19shmoo69 I get those friend requests, too, and it’s almost always men who only have women on their friend list. They get deleted without comment. 😉

@trooworld Sheesh, it really is always something with your condo. I hope they can fix it quickly. Your salad sounds so good. I’ve been craving salads, which tells me that winter is over! 😃

Good morning! There's not much going on today other than some church work. We have a baby shower next month at the church, so I spent time this morning making a cute graphic to advertise the event to the church. I’m supposed to have a staff meeting tonight, but I will be on Zoom. I will do a workout this morning with my weights, and for dinner, I’m making air fryer taquitos with Mexican rice. The taquitos will be easy for Joe to eat. Plus, I have a ton of corn tortillas to use. Have a great day!🙂

    Hi 👋

I'm pleasantly surprised this morning. I expected to see a gain because I've been barely moving around. I'm very happy to see this loss.

It's going to be a beautiful day today, low to mid 60's. I'm going to get outside for awhile and enjoy some sunshine 🌞 ☀️ ☺️

Today is the perfect day for a Bike ride. I had a really good time and a neighbor two streets up from me wanted to chat, so I did that. He's nice but he needs hearing aids. My brakes are awesome, right now the Bike is working perfectly, I hope it stays that way. If somebody asked me to review my Bike brand, I would have to say it's unreliable. That may change in the future.

@TeresaW2024 Yes! They fixed it yesterday but they had to drill down through my neighbor's floor to fix it. So, they have to replace his tile. I'm glad it wasn't us this time! The salad was really good, it had an apple cider vinegar-based vinaigrette. I hope the meeting goes well and the taquitos are good.

@DrewsAnna Congrats on the loss! Enjoy the sunshine.

@FushiaKat I'm glad you enjoyed your bike ride. I hope the unreliability is over now.

    @Katmary71 Hope all is well.

    @Lislisa123 Congrats on that loss!

Hi all. The weather was really nice here yesterday, in the 70s. I had another busy day at work. They have fixed the slab leak and we are supposed to have hot water now but when I was doing the dishes last night, the hot water was just warm. I'm hoping it just needed to warm up in the water heater and by the time I take a shower this morning, it will be nice and hot. Because I've been busy at work, this week has flown by.

@DrewsAnna Congrats on your loss! 🤩

@FushiaKat I hope your bike continues to be reliable and gives you many wonderful days of riding!😎

@Katmary71 I hope you are taking good care of yourself so that you don’t get run down with all you are doing. 💓

@trooworld I hope your hot water returns. If not, maybe the workers turned down the water heater temperature, which needs to be turned back up. I hope the rest of your work week isn’t too busy.  🙂

Good morning! My taquitos were a huge hit with me and my sister, but Joe wasn't a big fan. He said they were too crunchy, which I found funny since his favorite Mexican are nachos. 😂 I had a staff meeting last night where we mostly discussed the calendar dates for this new in-depth program called Refocus that we are starting. The program is designed to help us assess our current state and identify areas for growth. There will be six of us and the guy running the program. The goal is to have two monthly meetings and then a church-wide meeting to keep the people updated. This will go on most of the year, with our first meeting being held from 3 to 6 pm this Sunday. I do not know what will be involved with this program, and I look forward to finding out and hopefully ending my skepticism about this being the right thing for us to do. The man leading the program understands I can't be there in person and will send me a Zoom link. Just one of the perks of being a caregiver! 😁 OK, I'm off to do an arm workout and make my bis and tris cry!! 😭💪

    Hi 👋

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Hubby, Chipper and I went and walked in the Preserve across the street for a little bit. I tried to catch a picture of a woodpecker, but it was quite elusive and I couldn't catch it. After that, I got up into the garden window and cleaned it up. It was a good day and I felt accomplished when I sat down to crochet.

I have 2 rooms I need to start organizing. They are both so overwhelming, that when I walk in I always turn around and walk right out. I'm going to break the job down into smaller jobs, so that a little bit gets done each day.

    Y'all have a great day 😀

Well I had a few social things this week so am a bit happy with a 1lb loss. I kept up my exercise (i'm doing a Peloton challenge) and tried to reduce my lattes (was having 5+ a day). The loss, while small, will hopefully keep me motivated to do more this week. Thank you all for sharing.

My issue in times of stress is usually wine! I'm going to take the ideas people have shared - writing is a great idea and I'll also trying playing my guitar.
