I love walk challenges. I joined another group on here that is a 4 million steps challenge, so 11,000 a day. TBH I am behind the pace but hoping to catch up in the warm weather.
I also have a Garmin, so I do a bunch of their monthly walk challenges.
Will totally join you on this. I go on vacation from April 30 to May 6, so might be sporadic on here but will be sure to track and post when I get back.

Hi!
I'd love to join a walking challenge. I'm planning to try to 10k steps a day during May (a decent jump up in my step count), but will see how I go. A friendly challenge might help keep me on track. I have a Fitbit, but will post here my count here or wherever :)

After doing 10k steps for the last two days, I think I'm going to revise my plan and go for 8k instead. I'm not sure I'm ready for 10k a day yet, haha

Hi jenni 8k is still a lot of steps to do each day I myself was wondering on why the magic number of 10k and my research came to the conclusion on 1 as I always said any steps is great 10k was this a # made up in the 60's 7500 heals with weight loss and 8k actually been my goal to number in the past I thought 7500 to be safe lol
My day I woke up feeling excited for the challenge I did an exercise video ,took the dogs on a walk and played outside even walking constantly in the house around 3 my back was hurting along with headache so I decided to take some tylenol when I noticed I forgot to put my watch on …my oldest dog needed my attention at 7 so it slip my mind as I was not wearing it for a few days…..long story short not feeling the greatest I manage to still reach my target with over 4000 steps under hour n half but completed today goal 😊

thanks jennie how are you doing..today sore legs but I made my number 😊

congrats on your accomplishment! i think the ultimate goal is to get you to move more than you would if you didn't have a step goal. I'm proud of both of you!

Happy Monday
totameafoz I 100% agree I threw a number out there for myself but this be comfortable and grateful I am able to walk years of injury it was a struggle ,
Friday I hit the goal and notice my watch was being slow as walking 30 min it said I did 5 steps ,lol so I charged it and around 6 as we arrived to a park to hike for a few hours my watch stopped at 6469 steps my husband phone said we did over 2000,and I kept telling myself it not on my phone but it counts and to go back to last year where my Aug challenge is walking every day..Sunday a lot of walking was out at some events so I did 7680 and today I decided since my watch is acting up again…I am only focusing on walks and add my steps that may or not be 7500goal

I'm doing good, thanks @luvfurbabies
My legs are ok, my back is kinda achey as I've had a few good days where I've stretched my goal a bit, but I'm really enjoying walking. I'm averaging 4 miles a day at the moment, which I'm really proud of. A few months back, I'd be doing half a mile a day max as I was just so unfit, so every day I can stretch my legs and take some steps is a win.1 -
jenniejumps congrat and I hear you tonight after dinner my back etc started acting up and I decided my challenge is what I first set out and to this walk outside every day and I am unsure of the distance except for my nightly walks are a few hours .I am feeling happy about that plus with all the extra walking I do every day and running and playing with the dogs outside I am seeing a difference minus th tired legs at night lol…keep up the great work 😊

Great job @luvfurbabies and @JenniJumps for your steps and keeping up. I read somewhere that the 10,000 was created by someone trying to sell pedometer or phone or something. And the number we "need" isn't that high.
A year ago, I think I was probably around 5k on an average. Worked slowly to increase and joined a challenge at the end of the year to reach 4 million steps in 2025. It is a fun challenge and I may or may not make it. And do I get the back pain. Been on and off dealing with it for a few weeks. Ironically, easy movement helps, based on where I was.
So, back from vacation and averaged about 12k steps daily. Part of that were days that we went hiking in the mountains, which was planned. Elevation about killed me though, lol.
So, will be doing a few Garmin challenges this month: steps, time walking, total miles. I'll touch base every couple of days.
Keep up the good work amazing women!

HI megDD wow!!! sound like a fun vacation and that is a lot of steps and hiking in the Mountains is were always my fav place to be as for me a few changes
1 I am only sticking to walking challenges not counting on steps but I know I am getting a lot in as Sat I was over 11000 and yesterday I was way more then active then Saturday and I am comfortable with my choice I was stressing myself on the numbers and forgetting to put on the watch at times then stressing on that and realize this is not what I wanted my May challenge to be about I am focusing TOP 8 and TOP3 and together they are my everyday focus but I need to be logging in my foods and exercising .
Today was a nice day sore legs from yesterday but still took my dogs for a 1 1 /2 walk
this moving everyday and feeling blessed I can😊

hi I almost forgot to add 10k started in Japan by a ?? in 1960 only when he realized Japanese people were not walking enough so he figure saying this number would start them moving more… interesting research

@luvfurbabies thanks for pointing out the step thing and a Japanese doctor. I remember learning it was kind of an arbitrary number. And now so many of us feel stress if we don't hit it, or get close!
Good for you for focusing on challenges and not letting the other pieces stress you out. Such a balance!! I am not familiar with TOP 8 and TOP 3, what are those?
Did about 2 miles of hiking yesterday, then just regular life. Hiked this morning for about a mile before work and hoping for another mile or so this evening. So glad it is warming up her and I can be outside!!

Didn't get my evening walk in yesterday. But did get just under two miles this morning.
I'll be switching out my clothes today, so lots of trips up and down the stairs. If the predictions are right, it'll shorts weather on Monday.

Hi a little update and personal information I first want to say how sorry I am for not posting more especially on a challenge I started …My son an adult on the spectrum, starting this month my days have become daily struggle of just trying to get through them … 2018 he lost his EMS dog after 17 years and stop eating out of depression so I was focusing on trying to up his eating along with my mil health issues and my SIL cancer and my mom a lot and I got through that crazy time and thinking everything food wise is good, there were good/bad months but nothing of big concern …My son had know gone back wards and he not eating and this is worse then before as he had a fear of food and how much fat is in it etc etc so he watching how I eat and I am not measuring or anything for he picks up on it all so it a balance act ..I gave him a mini orange and he was mad for I made him gain weight!! so this is where I am at back to doctor and with out restrictions of covid I am asking for team of specialist etc to help before it was depression but this fear it very intense. this is where I am this trying to get through each day or an hour ,I am an emotional eater and I'm this trying to do my best to not this eat all the time …walking helps and he enjoy coming but I have to watch for an orange he thinks he needs to go on a 2 hour bike ride with above 30 temp and being 6 f/1 it not easy to stop him so I told him we can go for a walk each night that how I am doing my steps , so my ulcers are acting up I had them since I was 16 …so nothing new there I hope I am not sounding like I am complaining or wanting to sound pity me or anything this thought I ask for this group and here I am not checking in and wanting to explain my why I am absent for a few days and when be check in in when I am can thanks 😊😐️😍

@luvfurbabies
Family always comes first. So sorry to hear that your son is having such a bad time of things, and that you're also having rough days. Look after yourself, and we'll look forward to seeing you when things are a bit better xx1 -
I've had to take a few days off from exercise as I've managed to walk myself into tendonitis. Its disappointing, but I know if I keep walking that I'll cause lasting damage, so I'm on crutches at the mo and taking anti-inflammatories. My doctor says it may last for 2-3 weeks, but I'm hoping it will be less as I'm already getting bored with just sitting around.
1 -
@JenniJumps that is tough! Rest is super important but I know what you mean about getting bored.
I hit my steps goal for the last four days. Between morning walks and various life pieces, got them in. I have 5.5 hours of meetings in my workday today, so not confident I'll get my goal today.

A big thanks for the kind comments and feeling …hard to describe hopeful??seeing his doctor was a big step and we will go from here but will say his out look on food is changing a bit and that I am thank ful ..baby steps at the moment it been a constant rain n thunder seems mother nature does not know which way to go but the rain is helping the many forest fires that my province has not seen so many in May
jennie yes I know where you are at once with my ankle they never seen anything like it lol and took 8 months of healing and my left leg where I had damage knee was giving out from supporting my R leg so long so hear you on being bored but maybe find a hobby?read?journal?

That is good news @luvfurbabies!! One moment at a time and it all adds up.
My steps have really dropped the last few days. My back is giving me some major issues. So no extra hikes or exercise right now. Went to the chiropractor yesterday so hopefully it'll work itself out over the weekend!!

Thanks @luvfurbabies. I'd say I am at 80%. I get stiff if I sit too long and then moving from sitting to standing. But getting more movement in. By throwing in me ear buds, putting on a Spotify 80s playlist and slowly walking around the house.
The weather has been nuts here too. From 80 and sunny to rainy and 40 in less than a day. Super windy today. I am wearing lots of layers because I refuse to put my winter coat back on. And grateful for heated car seats.

I would love to join your walk challenge if you all are still doing it. I was thinking of at least aiming for walking everyday. I'm not sure step counts or anything because I don't have a tracker (although phones may track these days probably)
