I have focused on cardio for the last 3 months because my heart needed it having struggled so long with a lack of hemoglobin & as a result oxygen, but it is strong now and my blood test yesterday shows all is back to normal except my white blood cell count, but we'll worry about that later!!! πŸ™„ For May, I am going to reduce my step count goal on my Garmin watch to 10,000 steps per day and focus on strength. To that end my goals are:

Goals: TR: Just Walk: Firm 30, W, F, Sat will be 2-4 mile walks and Sunday will be a 5 mile walk. All these walks will use the workout bands or weights. M will be my rest day. Garmin Challenges: 300,000 steps in May & May Steps Podium. Challenges: complete Mount Blanc Circular, France, Italy & Switzerland, begin West Highway Way, Highlands, Scotland. I'd like to increase my miles over April, but it is not a game changer if I can't. Strength is my focus this month.

BTW, I LOVE the picture and quote @Deeder522 ! What a great way to start the month!!!! πŸ‘οΈ

    5/1-I'm ready!!! 🀣

    May Goals

    Miles Tracked: 75
Apple Challenge: Close all my rings 13x

I'm not 100% sure what my workouts will look like this month. Like

@zichab, I also want to increase my strength training. So I'll start focusing on 2-3 strength training sessions a week while I mix in a rotation of works outs with Leslies' team, Jessica, & Jules at Improved Health.

OK when I said I was ready for May … well I am not!!! Holy smokes! I did the standing part of this workout (squats, lunges, bicep curls, rows etc) with 2 lb weights just fine. But the floor work for abs … πŸ€ͺ um, no, just no!!! LOL My abs are so weak! I did about 3 curls and the Pilates splash and then laid on the floor in a heap!!! Clearly, I need strength training!!! I can remember when I could do this workout with 10 pound weights and crush it!! Thank goodness the next one won't be until Tuesday as I need to recover! 🀣

I am going to go take a nap! Until tomorrow 😴!

Oh boy am I sore!!! Dennis was laughing because I work out in a small space right now and normally can't do the double side steps because I do not have enough room. Well, today it was no problem as my inner thighs are so sore from yesterday that I can only move my legs apart a little way. 🀣 My thigh are fine, but my inner thighs and glutes are very sore. I did the Burn Body Fat walk because she uses the weights for the upper body and I did not do all of the moves and I stuck to 1 pound weights.

Our snow has finally melted!!! The last little snow plow pile disappeared today. πŸ˜₯ It is now supposed to rain for the next 6 days!!!! So much for a drought!

I'll be back tomorrow with a 2 mile walk, just to keep it going!! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

    5/3-Collage TV-Leslie Sansone-2 Mile Walk: Garmin Miles:

Oh my gosh! I stumbled on a bunch of Leslie’s really old videos! They are at Collage Videos Leslie Sansone! They play on YouTube, but I accessed them through Collage. This two mile one was a challenge in foot work! She used to do different moves along with her standard 4. She looked like a Bobby socker in the one I did. So cute!

@Elfirose33 I am glad you are feeling better! Those are some lofty goals you have for the month! I am so impressed with your lunge challenge. Because of my knees, I have to do those very slowly and carefully. But, I have been thinking about doing a squat challenge. Maybe in June!

It has been raining and dark all day, so I got a ton done. I love what everyone else calls a gloomy day, because I get energized when it is dark! I think I was a bat in a former life πŸ¦‡πŸ˜‚ .

See you all tomorrow with my 5 mile Sunday Walk! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

It warmed up enough for a walk outside today, so I did a couple of laps around the farm field.

We may have found a cheese that Ry's system will tolerate. It's lactose-free, so he's enjoying chips and cheese as a new snack. I'm also adding 1 tsp to his eggs in the morning. He's also up a couple of pounds this week since trying it. 🀞🏻That this might be a little win for us.

@zichab Congratulations on your fantastic report reflecting all your hard work the last 3 months! It's great to know how exercise shows up on the health report pages in such a measurable and clear way; very inspiring! Wonderful plan with your new focus on strength this month πŸ’ͺ I've been there too (a heap on the floor, that is). Hang in there and enjoy your strength rest break. Cool find at Collage! I love it when that happens:) I'm not quite 100% yet, but I'm SO much better than I was! Thank you:) Yeah, it may be too lofty of a lunge goal… time will tell if I can actually pull it off πŸ˜… At the same time, I won't hesitate to adjust my end goal if I find it's too many for me to do in a day. Oh, I love cold, rainy, grey, cloudy (and snowy, wintry, icy) days too!! They're my favorite! I love the same weather you do, which is so neat! Hey, maybe we were both bats in previous lives! 🀣

@Deeder522 Nice graphic for the month! πŸ‘οΈ Your goals all look great! I think it's fun to not always know what the workouts will look like, will be fun to see what unfolds. Oh that's simply awesome to find a yummy food that may work! That must be amazing for Ry to enjoy that! My fingers are crossed, too, that that works!

I'm making a small change to my May Saturday goals: a walk at the river (or an indoor walk, as needed) now replaces that Saturday Step class. I haven't been to the step class in awhile, and I didn't go there again today because I think I need walking more right now. And the river at the park is so scenic right now, too, with everything greening up. So, this morning Mark and I walked the river at the park for two hours, slow easy pace. Later in the day I walked Dottie for 20 minutes. I think I'm all walked out for today, whew! πŸ˜…

It's a bit breezy, but I still need a walk in the park. 1.25 miles in a respectable amount of time. I got distracted by some blooming trees that I had to take photos of. πŸ˜‰ Otherwise, my time would have been a little better.
I also started 2 new audiobooks to walk to. I sometimes find that easier to walk to than music.
    Tomorrow, arms again. Last week's

Barre Arm with Mik worked some muscle that I was unaware I had.

A walk by the river sounds lovely, @Elfirose33. I tried to do step a few months ago and need to slowly work my way up again.

@zichab I forgot about the Collage videos until just recently.

5/4-Walk Your Way Thin: Walk It Off & Tone It Up: 5 Calorie Burning Miles: Garmin Miles:

It has been a hot minute since I did this workout and I forgot how much I like it. She uses the band for the middle 3 miles, only in the beginning, which is great! The rest is fast walking and I really do not realize that it is 70 minutes long. 😳

@Deeder522 Oh my gosh, I am so happy for Ryan!! I could not live in a world without cheese that is for sure! I even found a low sodium Mac & Cheese recipe for Dennis so we could still have it! Cheese is a staple in our house! 🀣 I sure hope Ryan does not develop a sensitivity to it. Fingers crossed as it opens a lot of recipe ideas for you to vary his diet. 🀞

It's actually getting to the temperature here that Dennis and I are talking about hiking a mountain! We thought we might start with our own road first to see how we handle steep hills. He thinks his knees are ready and I think I am ready, but you never know until to you do it. He has walked down to the lake and back a few times and up our driveway with his new knees with no problem. It has been a few years since we hiked a mountain though.

@Elfirose33 I have noticed that you and I tend to be happy with the same kind of weather and temperatures. Pretty soon, we will be forced to deal with all the sun worshiping people you know. πŸ™„ We are going to Las Vegas for our granddaughter and grandson's college and high school graduations respectively in June, and my son is worried that it will be too hot for me! As if there was any doubt about that! πŸ˜‚ I will survive I am sure … me an SPF 700+!!!!!🀣

I am so glad I am not the only one who has ended up in a heap on the floor. I was surprised actually at how little I could do on the floor, but then Dennis reminded me that it was my abs that gave out when I could not lift groceries into our truck, and they found the low hemoglobin. He thinks it will take a while for my abs to come back to "workout" strength, even if I have functional ab strength. He is probably right … which is very annoying! 😠 πŸ˜‰

Tomorrow is my rest day so I will see you both on Tuesday with my 2nd attempt at Firm 30! πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ πŸ˜΄πŸ˜ƒ

Today I walked Dottie 20 minutes, walked 20 minutes at the park with Mark, and did 10 minutes Restorative Yoga.

@Deeder522 Nice job, and it's extra credit if you stop and take photos of blooming trees πŸ˜‰ Great idea listening to audio books while walking! I understand about step as I'm not quite ready myself for it either.

@zichab Well done with your workout today! How exciting to be talking about hiking your mountain! And oh my, you are going to a very hot place soon. Yes, you will survive! πŸ˜…

    5/5-Garmin Miles: 5.5

5/6-Just Walk: Tone every Zone: Garmin Miles

I have to make a change as I cannot do Firm 30 yet. My abs and back are not strong enough for this one and I am afraid I am going to hurt something if I push it. So, I am changing to Just Walk:Tone Every Zone. It is basically the same workout (i.e. squats, lunges, chest presses, bicep curls etc), but less on the floor. It is also 40 minutes instead of 30, so it goes a bit slower and has some walking intervals. I should have known that Firm 30 would be too much, but I am in a hurry to be in shape for mountain hiking! ⛰️ πŸ˜₯ My bad I know! 😊

My goodness @Elfirose33! 20 lunges on each leg???? To start???????? I bow to your greatness!!! πŸ‘‘ I managed 10 on each leg with a 2 pound weight and was shaking when she said "last one." I will aspire to 20 on each leg … for next month!!!! 🀣😎

@Deeder522 I checked out that Barre Arm Work out with Nik and I can see why you found muscles you did not know you had! πŸ˜‚ I am going to try it tomorrow before my walk. I'll let you know if I manage all 11 minutes! Stay tuned! 😬

I'll be back tomorrow with my planned 4 mile walk and an 11 minute attempt at the Barre Arm workout! 😎

Today I did 60 minutes Zumba and walked Dottie 20 minutes. I'm not very good at Zumba but I did work up a good sweat trying so I guess that's what matters πŸ˜…

@zichab You are wise to switch it up. Thank you for your enthusiasm for my lunges 😊 Excellent job doing ten lunges yourself with the 2-lb weight!

I changed my mind and am going to do the Barre Arm workout tomorrow with my strength workout. No sense mixing it up and I just wanted to walk fast today. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I have not done this workout in along time and I forgot how much fun it is. The middle two miles are really fast though!

@Elfirose33 Awe thank you for the support. I was disappointed (which I am sure you picked up on) that I could not do Firm 30, mainly because I used to do it all the time with 8 and 10 pound weights. I just have to understand that I need to work back up to that level of strength the same way I had to work up to cardio fitness again. I'd just like this to happen MUCH faster!!!! πŸ˜πŸ˜‰ As far a Zumba is concerned, try to remember what Leslie always says, "You do not have to follow any moves 'correctly.' As long as you are moving, you are getting a good workout." Using her mantra, you did great at Zumba!!!! πŸ‘οΈ

I'll be back with my strength workout tomorrow! πŸ™„ Have a good evening!

Wow!! You have all set some great goals and are doing really well for these goals!

Had a nice recharge vacation. Tracked my steps, but that was it. So I have 74,150 steps from May 1 through May 6.

Here are my goals for the month of May.

May Step Month: 300,000 steps on Garmin challenge. Personal goal is 345,000.

    May Walking: 30 miles

Active May: 20 activities for 20 minutes. This could be tough because I haven't recorded any officially yet .

And several expeditions. I started the Patagonia on April 28. Will probably get three done this month.

Also hoping to get back on the C25k this month too. Planning for next week.

    Miles Tracked: 34 / 75
Apple Challenge: Close all my rings 13x 3 / 13

I'm still around, just got a little swamped with some work and busy mornings.
The weather looks good through the weekend, so I should have some good walks coming up.

I just started last week with working out again. I live in Arizona and we are looking at 100 degrees this weekend so I think my walk away the pounds dvd is coming out into play. I'm doing bands and some shoulder rehabs for my frozen shoulder so overhead lifts are way out but I'm doing what I can and squats for sure. I ordered a kettlebell that adjusts from 5-25 lbs and cant wait for Saturday workout after it arrives.

Have I mentioned how much I dislike strength training????😠 Well, I still don't!!!! πŸ˜‚ I managed the entire 10 minutes of the Barre Arms workout until the last 60 seconds when she killed my shoulders!!! I actually managed 9 Minutes and 30 seconds of the 10 minutes! Then, I collapsed in the chair!!! 😴 Meh, I know it is good for me, but @Deeder522 is right! I have muscles that I did not know existed!!!

Welcome @ShrinkinMel I can understand needing to move your workouts inside!!! 100F is beyond hot and kudos to you!!!! I am in the northern Adirondack Mountains of NY and it is just getting into the 60s some days here. However, all it does is rain so I have not been out yet at all. Hopefully, in another couple of weeks! There are a lot of workouts online now both for Leslie and other strength and cardio videos so working out inside works and is not boring! Plus, there are always all of us to cheer you on!!! πŸŽ‰

Welcome back @megd44! we missed you but are glad you had such an active trip!!! I finished Patagonia in April and am working on the Mount Blanc Circuit right now and it is taking forever!! πŸ™„ Those are a lot of steps for vacation! Did you rest at all? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ƒ

I'll be back tomorrow with a 3 mile walk, IF I can still stand that is!!! These strength workouts are doing me in right now! πŸ˜…

    Thank you zichab!

Does everyone have dvds or are they streaming these walks. I do have Apple Fitness. I still have Leslies old walk away the pounds 3 mile walk. I found an external dvd player for $1 at the Amazon returns Binz shop to hook the laptop we have hooked up to the living room tv so I can walk inside.

Wednesday I did 80 minutes Tai Chi, 20 lunges (each leg), and I walked Dottie 20 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day.

@zichab Good deal, it's great to have a favorite workout! You're so welcome. Yes, I did pick up on your disappointment, but I just know you'll be able to do Firm 30 with weights again in due time. And you're not alone eitherβ€”-I used to be able to do a ton of stuff I now can't do, but I never lose hope! Yes, me too, the working back up to that level can't come fast enough. Hang in there! Great quote from Leslie, I love that:) Thanks! Oh, I didn't know you dislike strength training! Oh dear. Well, 9 minutes and 30 seconds is truly a milestone!! Congratulations! And I'm sooo glad the chair was right there… πŸ˜…. Don't ever forget how great you're doing!!!

@megd44 Wonderful to hear you had a recharge vacation, those are so important (I need to do that). Good job tracking steps on your vacationβ€”-and an awesome number of steps, by the way! Welcome home:) πŸ’œSounds like some fantastic goals for May, including your wonderful C25k 😊 I hope you will be blessed with all kinds of nice weather ongoing!

@Deeder522 Nice job! Have a good weekend!

@ShrinkinMel Welcome! I'm in Missouri where the summers are hot and humid. It's on my list to visit Arizona someday, though, and experience the very contrasting hot dry heat there. Way to go getting started working out again! And excellent job modifying while you're recovering πŸ’š When I am walking, I usually have my dad's bulldog Dottie with me 😊 (but that doesn't really answer your question about dvd's and streaming, but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyway, lol!).

@ShrinkinMel welcome to the group. I just got back from Nevada (where we lived for 11 ish years) and it was getting hot. It seems early for 100 degrees, which i don't miss. I have a subscription to the Walk at Home app/website. I like that I can find the old stuff and get new. But some of the newer trainers drive me nuts. I think it costs 70 annually?

@zichab hiking in the mountains and walking around downtown Vegas put the numbers up for sure! But we tend to go on very active vacations so it isn't unusual for me to have more steps while gone than in my regular life.

@Elfirose33 great job with the lunges!! I could not do that. And we are supposed to be warming up here. Fingers crossed.

@Deeder522 perfect weather for those outside walks! Enjoy!!

Took a rest day Wednesday because I was pretty stiff from the travel on Tuesday, and sleepy. Yesterday I did some mix and match blends in the morning. Then hiked our property with hubby and dogs, maybe 3/4s of a mile with some hills, after dinner.

Today I did the Easy Burn followed by the flexibility walk. Also beautiful weather this weekend here so planning on another property hike with pups and maybe husband. I'll track it this time.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Thanks so much for your warm welcome back!!

Welcome @ShrinkinMel! I'm glad you found the group! I use the DVDs & YouTube for my exercise needs. I cycle between different YouTube pages depending on my mood. Variety is nice. I have a mix of Walk at Home and Jessica Smith DVDs. I'm in SW Michigan. It's been a bit since I've seen 100℉. My husband spent a summer in AZ as a kid. He was in the pool from morning to night.

@zichab Told ya! I like most of Fit by Mik Arm videos. The 10 min ones are just the right amount for me right now.

This week has been a weird week all around for me. Not a lot of focused exercise, but still moved plenty. This weekend, I'm planning on "breaking" down the 1 dining room table we've been using that was my parents and switching out with the 1 we've had in storage. Other than that, nothing major is planned.

It is so strange to me that 5K with a Twist now is one of my 3 Mile filler videos when it was such a challenge a couple of months ago. Fitness feels great! Strength is painful right @Deeder522 ? πŸ˜‚ I also like that they are 10 minutes, because she has 20 minute videos too, so I figure I can increase weights in the 10 minute ones as I get more fit and then move to the 20 minute ones and build up again. This is of course a great plan, but we shall see! 🀩

@ShrinkingMel I use DVDs but I have a collection of them as I started with MFP in 2012 and Leslie was all the rage then with people who had a lot of weight to lose. I also use her You Tube videos to fill in ones I do not have and Collage video when I want to try some older ones from before I was following her. I also use Jessica Smith TV videos sometimes and have just restarted strength training and in addition to the two strength videos I have of Leslie's, I am using fitbynik because she has 10 minute workouts that are targeted to upper or lower body. I also hike our mountains in the summer and will be walking our road when the weather improves and before the bugs come out in force. 😑 There are a lot of free videos online that really help keep me from getting bored. Hope that helps. 😊 My grandparents used to live in Scottsdale and my husband was in pilot training for the Air Force at Luke AFB in Glendale and lived in Mesa. Small world!

Oh my gosh @megd44 My oldest son daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren live in Las Vegas! We are heading out there in June for their graduations one from college and one from high school! They actually live in Henderson, which had some bad floods on Tuesday. Where did you live in NV? LV is too hot for me, but I could do Reno … I think.

@Elfirose33 LOL I have complained about strength training every time I feel compelled to do it. I am a type A who is on the go all the time and strength training is just so BORING for me! Standing in one place lifting a weight, standing and squatting, laying on a mat and lifting something, etc , none of which seems to do anything! I need to see results and although I know I do … eventually … it is too slow for my energy level (well except when I had no iron or hemoglobin, and thus no energy of course 🀣)! Thanks for the encouragement though as I sure need it!

I'll be back tomorrow and I am not sure if I'll so a 3 or 4 mile workout. Saturday is my flex day! 😎

Tonight I walked Dottie for 20 minutes and then did 20 lunges, each leg. After that I tried to mow but an important piece from the mower fell off so now we have to fix that first (after a trip to the hardware store). Such a bummer because I really wanted to mow, and the back yard really needs it. Oh well, tomorrow will be the day for that now.

@megd44 Thank you! Good to hear a warming trend may be headed your way, my fingers are crossed too! I always have to rest the day after traveling too. Sounds like a wonderful hike:) Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!

@Deeder522 I hope you have a good weekend and a get a nice break from the week.

@zichab Great plan moving forward! You've come a long way, way to go! Oh gosh, that's a challenge to have to do an exercise that's boring:/ Just wondering if there's a more fun way to increase your strength? Just a thought:) It's awesome you have your energy back again! And you're welcome, I've got more encouragement to give anytime you need it!

@zichab we used to live in a teeny town called Sandy Valley. It is south of Vegas. I worked in the city but we wanted quiet so I managed a lo g commute. Only managed the heat by living in a shade covered pool from May to September.

Still stiff from travels (or maybe still back from a couple weeks ago) so sticking to some easier videos. Today did the Easy Start 2 miles. Will be swapping out my clothes for the season today, so lots of trips up and down stairs.

Well, I still could not do all 10 minutes of the Barre arms workout, but this time it was a different exercise that did me in. πŸ˜‚ I also have a coordination issue when she wants me to move my arm forward and my leg back! Who does this in real life unless they are in the water swimming??? πŸ™„

@megd44 My kids tend to live by the pool or in their Air conditioned house! My son works for All western Mortgage Co and he works from home all the time now. My daughter-in-law works for a criminal court judge in North LV so she is in Air Conditioning most of the time as well. They come here every year for a visit to get away from it for a bit.

I bought some new clothes for summer, but I have not changed over my wardrobe yet as we seem to still be in Monsoon season here!!! It as rained all week, is sunny today and tomorrow and them back to rain for all of next week !!! Geez O Pete!!! I'm not sure I'll ever wear the summer clothes I already have! ☺️ should have bought an ark!!!! ⛴️

@Elfirose33 Thank you and I have come a long way. I tend to forget that sometimes. For so long I could not work out much at all even though I was trying and assuming it was just "getting older." I know I have a long way to go, but I am on my way at least and should be grateful for that! I see my MD at the end of May and for once, I am happy about it! 😊 There is not a lot to be done about strength training. It is what it is. The only time I really like is when I mountain hike and my legs burn from climbing and my arms burn from using the hiking poles. At least this summer, I hope I can do that to add to my strength. Time will tell! I have a couple of months yet to get fit enough.

Tomorrow is my 5 mile workout so I am heading upstairs to make dinner! Gotta keep fueled up don't we! πŸ˜‚ Have a good evening!

Today I mowed for 75 minutes, walked with Mark at the river (slow pace) then walked Dottie for 25 minutes.

@megd44 Good job doing easier videos while recovering. Swapping out clothes is a lot of work; that will be so nice.

@zichab Yes, you sure have come a long way, well done! It's so easy to forget because the goal shines so brightly, and the rear view mirror does not. You are definitely on your way! Well, maybe the bright spot is the mountain climbing opportunity coming up. What if, while you're doing the dreaded strength training, you see yourself climbing the mountain in good stride, effortlessly, with a beautiful picture of that mountain larger than life in front of you, a pine-scented candle burning nearby, and a recording playing rich sounds of a bubbling mountain stream? I know, I'm full of ideas you may not be at all interested in, and you can totally ignore me 🀣

Thanks @Elfirose33 I was definitely feeling the flights of stairs and the carrying of tubs by the time our friends came for dinner. Was nice to get a rest. And great workout with the mowing!

@zichab Way to keep pushing with the strength training even if it us not your favorite. Maybe create a reward system, for every ten sessions you get a manicure/facial/new book something not food that motivates you?

Still stiff this morning, but did all of the Burn to the Beat. The last portion may have been pushing it, but generally if I keep moving I'll be okay. Hubby and I are going to plant our seedlings outside today since it looks like nights should be ok now. First big garden here, so we'll see how it goes.
