@pamelaory How are you doing? Are things going better with the foster dog at all? Thinking of you!

hi @Catlady27787 ! Things are going ok. The foster pup is still a handful but I’ve had an attitude adjustment towards him. He is clearly acting out from anxiety and so I’ve just slowed down my days and am with him 24/7. Things are much better. He hasn’t bit anyone else and the rescue agreed that he can see a specialist about it. Anxiety meds may be in his future as well.

Hugs for the furbaby - we can't know their trauma, but our rescues retained various issues that we just managed… miss every dang one, they are all so unique.

Did you find a dress? Too exciting!

And congrats on the trend downward. It can take a bit for people to notice for sure.

That is great news about the foster @pamelaory!! Sometimes that slowing down will make all the difference. Hope the fireworks didn't upset him terribly.

How are you doing with everything else?

hi Meg (and everyone). I’ve not been doing terribly well. I got all excited at my doctors visit about a month ago and we agreed to take me off of one of the diabetes meds I’ve been on and the results have been not great. My A1c has started to creep up and I’ve gained a few pounds. I’m ready to go back on the med! lol! I want to get back to the progress I was enjoying before we had the hair-brained idea to make a change when things were going so well.

That sucks that going off the med impacted you negatively. Are you thinking of talking to your doctor about the effects of having gone off it? I hope things even out for you soon!

@Catlady27787 , yeah, I think she is going to put me back on it, which I’m glad about.

That is tough Pamela. Hopefully you can get things figured out and get back on track. I have a brother that is Type 1 diabetic (for over 60 years!) and it can be such a delicate balance with the A1C. Glad you are working with your doctor to figure it out.

    Hugs!

Sometimes I feel like I have to 'whisper' myself through changes - big changes usually evoke an emotional response in me and I relapse/crash...

More practice ahead - meybe, maybe you'll reach a point where meds can be reduced or stopped... maybe not.

Stable today with what works, is good for today - then we tackle more, as we can... kind of an adventure, we won't know til we get furthet down the road ;)

Whew! It’s been a while, thanks everyone for your continued support. I’ve been really, really constipated since the doc changed my meds around and I hate to weigh in when that is the case. I finally am back on my meds as they were except that she has me on a lower dose of the metformin. I’m not really sure why, she doesn’t really explain herself and when I asked about it she just said she wants to try this lower dose through September. Personally, I’d rather just go right back to doing what was working. I don’t really like this Dr., she took over for my Doc, when she left the practice a few months ago. I’ve been thinking about looking for a new doc.

Things have been crazy with foster pup. What a roller coaster it’s been! I took him to the vet on the 15th and as it turns out, the vet we use is the same one he has gone to his whole life with his previous owner. The vet knew him very, very, well.
the vet told us a bit about his history. Turns out, our little foster pup is quite well known for his biting. He was even biting his owner! It was so bad in fact, that she had brought him in MORE THAN ONCE to be put down for it but would change her mind at the last minute. The vet was less than hopeful to say the least. He did say we could try medications, gave us a card to a behaviorist, and said frankly, he wasn’t the same dog with us as he had been with her. She would have to medicate him for vet visits because of the biting and anxiety. We had no idea, and he wasn’t medicated for the visit. I could tell that the vet approached him with caution, which seemed weird, because he’s never bitten us and never bites unless he is frantically barking at the newcomers or doorbell etc.

more soon… end of chapter one. 😆

    chapter 2.

So…. I took all the information home with me from the vet and shared it with my husband and the powers that be at the rescue. Turns out they found a behaviorist too, that they wanted us to speak to. My hubby and I decided to talk to the behaviorist before making any decisions except we already know, we can’t keep him long term. We just can’t afford another dog and it’s very hard to have one that will not let you out of his sight without barking frantically. I mean that literally too, he loses his *kitten* when I go to the mailbox without him.
‘it took several days of back and forth to finally connect with the behavorist that the rescue suggested we talk to, but when I finally talked to her, I was given hope! She suggested we train him (and our other dogs) to go lay on pads when the doorbell rings and not bark. Such a simple thing! I don’t mean training them to do that is simple (because it’s not) but it would solve the biting thing I think. The only times he has bit are when he’s running around frantically barking at people coming in the house. It’s like he gets over stimulated by his own barking and confused about what he’s supposed to do. I think he’s trying to protect me in an odd, ineffective way. So hubby and I agreed to give it a try. So armed with a puppy Prozac subscription and a training plan, here we go!

Wishing you and your foster puppy luck on the training. I'm glad that the behaviorist gave you some hope and what sounds like good advice. It's interesting that the other owner had to medicate the dog but that you were able to bring the foster pup to the vet without medicine. That kinda sounds like a step in the right direction to me? Like maybe that means the foster dog trusts you.

Poor pup, and good on you for trying!

Had a thought - could do an entry gated space inside at the door, like 6x8ish to keep it from rushing the door (we did that with a silly litter of pups who just wanted out to see what's out there...

Sounds like pup will need a special forever home. I hope his history can go with so he doesn't regress.
