Today's Topic: Taking license
We all react to a weigh-in in different ways. When you get a good result at the scale, do you act as if that gives you a license to loosen up on your habits?

A little. Still over goal, so "kinda" working on it. Still way too many snacks.

I’ll confess, even as a daily weigher and after doing this since 2008, the scale still has an impact. I’m more likely to allow myself an extra “whatever” in my daily food choices.
I don’t think it has derailed my progress, but I’m thinking it’s something I need to be more aware of. 🤔1 -
I don't think I take license with a good weigh-in. Though, to be fair, really good weigh-ins are few and far between as compared to bad weigh ins, so who can remember?

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. Depends on how much I am in the healthy mindset.

I absolutely do this. I'd say it's mostly subconscious, except sometimes I know I hear the little voice in the back of my mind and don't consciously override it, and … doesn't that make it conscious? Unfortunately, I have the same self-defeating reaction to working out. I've joked about it before - the notion that I ran a few miles so now I can eat whatever I want is actually pretty funny - but it's also real.

I am so far from goal or a healthy normal weight that I never get any since of a license to break loose. I also don't need any excuse to loosen up on my habits at least because of the scale.

I'm with Charlie on this, although it does sometimes derail my progress. On the flip side, do you 'always' buckle-down when you go up at a weigh-in, or do you sometimes just shake it off?

I get anxious about weighing myself, because there are so many factors that influence weight within a relatively wide range. I only weigh myself weekly to account for these daily variations, so that my weekly weight more accurately reflects an upward/downward trend from week to week. Because I don't attend in-person WW meetings, I usually weigh in on Fridays because that is the "Yo, how'd you do?" weigh-in post here. A loss for the week makes me happy, but I don't feel that it gives me license to ease up on my plan. Most of my fine tuning is to start weight downward, which happens more often than not. For example, I set my Cronometer goal at 2000 calories to gradually reduce weight. Because I've been on a plateau for much of the year, I dropped that to 1900 daily calories. I used to include exercise in my calculations, but not anymore, because my exercise is pretty consistent day-in and day-out. For purposes of consistency, I weigh myself first thing in the morning in my skivvies.
