Thank you, @RubyRed427, but—
Hi everyone,
Happy September! Yes, I'm calling a new "Do-Over". I've promised to remain accountable; so there it is. I had alcohol on both Friday and Saturday and therefore broke my latest AF streak. I have no choice but to accept and try again. I can't give up. I'm afraid about the blood pressure and pancreatic pain.
The first of the month is always a good choice to start, and September always feels like a new beginning for me; so... here I go again!
THIS time I lost my keys! Can't find them anywhere! Luckily, I have a spare set of housekeys, but I will need to replace my office keys. My only concern is if I left them in my door and someone might have taken them! The only item of value I own is my 32-inch, Samsung HD TV. That's it. It's still unsettling. I left a note by the mailboxes downstairs. No idea if I'll ever get them back. (Drunk people lose things!) My cat would hide; so she'd be okay. Even if they came in and said, "Give me all your money", or "We're going to the ATM", or "Give me your credit card" - they'd get nothing, because that's all I have. (Credit card maxed out, savings ~$50, checking $5.84 but will overdraw, once pending restaurant tabs clear (tips). Joke's on them, if they try it. (Plus, I fight back; so if they don't have a gun…)
On the plus side, my weight is down, but it might come back once I resume eating normally. We'll see...
I've got to get out together, and quickly.
I will keep checking in and will try to do better.
Best wishes for the week ahead!
💞Carole

@Walela617 I totally know how good intentions can be short lived. I was up a lot last night, sleepless, and kept mulling over and over "why do I drink, why do I drink." I sleep horribly when I drink a lot. Today, I had a cookout with family and I went right to my fridge and pulled out some wine and filled my glass. Even though, I promised myself I would not. It's terribly sad to be some drawn to alcohol.
I applaud you and thank you for being so real, Carole. I am proud of us for trying and never giving up. So thanks for being transparent. I'm happy your weight is down- there's a positive.
I will not give up either. I just want to share that I understand how you feel. It feels so good to be AF and then for fleeting moments, it feels so good to drink.
I will never ever give up on us. Thanks again for posting. xo

@Walela617 Also, I'm sorry you lost your keys. I hope no one took them. When I lose something I say that prayer to St. Anthony. Look it up. I am not even particularly religious but I swear when I pray this prayer, my item is found. It could work.
I sure hope no one breaks in, but I chuckled at your story. You're so sweet.
1 -
Hi @RubyRed427, I will try the prayer. I trust that no one will break in. This is a scare I don't need, and yet another "red flag"! Truth is, I don't remember getting home on Friday; so I might have fallen and they could have dropped out of my shoulder bag side pocket. I have a spare set and when I woke up the contents of my backpack were all over the place; so maybe I had to dig for them in the hallway outside my door? (HOPE not! It's an apartment building and I'm not the only "night owl".) I also couldn't find the Powerball tickets I had purchased, although I still had the two scratch tickets (no win). No bruises or cuts though; so that's good. No ER either, thankfully. One, million dollar Powerball winner in Massachusetts, but not near me. No one got "the BIG one".
I've GOTTA be done now - my checking account is close to zero! This is NUTZ!
Oh, well...New Month, New Beginning!
Have a nice night,
💞Carole

Found my keys! They were at the last bar I visited on Friday! Lucky me! (Kinda) Will fill in details tomorrow.
09/01 and 09/02, 100% AF! (002 days)
I will wait and start posting milestones once 8 complete the first week.
'Bye for now - I'll try to check in at least once per day.

I had 3 AF days then had 4 glasses of wine yesterday and I feel terrible today, physically and emotionally. My birthday is next week and I really need to just stop. I am turning 62 and it is time.
3 -
Hi everyone,
So, I broke my streak on Friday, BUT...I only had 3 drinks: An Octoberfest beer, a Jager shot and a Negroni cocktail. For me, stopping at only 3 is almost a miracle! Still, I plan to reset my count. I abstained yesterday and will continue through this week; however, want to reset my official, "Sober Time" app count on Sunday, September 21st, which is also "World Gratitude Day" and the "International Day of Peace". Every time I resist the temptation to have an alcoholic beverage, I will think of why I'm grateful and will send up a little prayer for our world.
Here we go! Next stop? Fall!🍁
I think I need to get into the habit of checking in once per day.
Now I will go to read your must recent posts.
Enjoy your day!
💞Carole

Well, after getting fired for drinking on the job, then promising my sister he would stop drinking, then secretly continuing to drink while going to AA , my sister has thrown down the gauntlet. He's off to inpatient 28 day rehab today which costs God knows how much. Insurance will cover most but not all of it. This is is last chance or she is done and I don't blame her. Alcohol is such a demon for some people. I ask for your prayers for DB, my brother in law. Thank you.

Hi @SunnyDays930 - whoa. The news you shared about your sister and her husband really hit home for me.
My brother lost his final job due to drinking on the job and my sister-in- law told him she was DONE. (NOT the first time.) He ended up hanging himself. He was almost 49 years old (in 2009) and his 20-year-old son found him (in his closet). He also had a daughter who now has a daughter of her own.
My father was an alcoholic as well. He shot himself in the head. One of his stepdaughters came home from school and found police and yellow tape surrounding her home. He was 58 (1993).
Alcohol was also largely the cause of my mother's mother's death as well. She had Type I diabetes. Not a good combination. I don't remember how old she was, but i think she was younger than I am now (67). I am now 10 years older than my mom when she died (in 1995). She didn't drink but was obese and a heavy smoker.
Alcohol truly is toxic. It can be so destructive.
Prayers for all. 🙏

Carole, That is so terrible that you have experienced such tragedies. I'm so sorry.
I am joining you today for my day 1 AF. I cannot continue this self destruction.
I drank so much yesterday (sneakily, too) that I was so sick at night. My family even said they didn't think I drank that much. Poor people- because I was sneaking it. Not a good sign.About last year this time, I started my 40+ day AF streak. I am determined to beat that record.
It's madness to keep on trying to drink. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow hangover free.

@SunnyDays930 I'm hoping your brother in law will have a good experience. He will see after 30 days how amazing life can be without the poison.

I was just telling RubyRed that I wish we had the time and money to go to a alcohol free spa for a month…a gentle rehab I guess.
Carole…Wow…your story is heavy. Thank you for sharing it with us all. Much love XXOO- J

Hi @RubyRed427, You and me both! I need to keep trying until I get this right! I wasn't "okay" at work on Friday and my manager kept asking me if I was all right. I also made a pretty dumb mistake and felt very close to rage when she kept on about it, but I somehow managed to restrain myself. She might have caught my expression at one point when I thought she wasn't looking because she was acting a little fearful after that and never said another word until I was leaving for the day, then she was very "nice". I plan plan to atone for all that next week. I can't afford to lose this job. I'm 67 and might not be able to find another one!
I love your AF spa idea, @SunnyDays930!
Have a nice evening,
💞Carole

One more note: usually my heart rate is higher at night when I am sleeping after alcohol. But last night on my Fitbit, there were some minutes where I had a 55 bpm heart rate. That is dangerous. I looked online that below 60 is not a good thing. My poor little heart suffers for my addiction.
4 -
@Walela617 That is rough. Yes, it is miserable at work after drinking the night before. I want to be my best. I have to do better and be tougher on myself about having wine at night. It's just not necessary. I may buy some nice chocolate and will reward myself with a piece or two each night.
3 -
Hi @RubyRed427, A sleeping heart rate of 55bpm is okay. I always average about 55bpm (including last night), probably because my average daytime resting rate is only ~62bpm, due to all the walking I do at ~4mph:
I just read online that If your sleeping heart rate is below 60, but you feel perfectly fine, it may be nothing to worry about. However, if you notice new symptoms, like dizziness, fainting, or shortness of breath you should speak with a healthcare professional to determine the cause. A sleeping heart rate below 40 beats per minute (bpm) for most adults can be too low, while a rate between 40 and 60 bpm is often normal. Athletes and physically active adults can sometimes have a resting heart rate less than 60 BPM. It's considered too low if it drops below 40 bpm for non-athletes or below 30-35 bpm for anyone. You're likely fine, but might want to get checked out by your doctor, just to be sure.
I like the chocolate idea!😁
Have a nice night,
💞Carole

@Walela617 Thanks so much for the information. I don't think it is something I have to check out with the doctor. I think I was startled the other night after drinking because usually my heart rate while sleeping is usually 75 -81 bpm. So, I panicked when I saw the 55 bpm.
Today Day 2 AF. On my way home from work, I thought what would one glass of wine hurt? But I didn't, I did have a Heineken 00 with dinner. It's definitely not the same as a venti wine pour but it will do. I look forward to another good sleep tonight!
4 -
Hi @RubyRed427! Cheers for resisting! I thought about stopping as well (on the way home(, but I must walked on by! I hope we both have a good sleep - we EARNED it!🙂 My average heart rate last night while sleeping was 55 again, but right now it's 62; so that's normal for me. My morning walk was 4.06 mph. Going home was a bit slower because I was carrying a lot. I did 16,749 steps (8.06 miles), which is close to my average on work days. I think that's why my heart rate trends lower. I'm pretty active - at least during most weekdays
Hello everyone,
Best wishes to all for a fantastic Fall. I will post every milestone, no matter how small!
09/22/25, 12am: Completed Day 001!💗
I will try to post at least once per day.
Have a nice night and a great Tuesday!

Hello everyone, I'm still here and have been reading your posts. It was some powerful stuff I can tell you. I am so sorry for your experiences.
I was derailed mid-September by COVID, which was a bit of a surprise as it was kind of off my radar since it is no longer rigorously checked anymore in the UK. My cold wasn't getting any better and I did a test and it was positive! Fortunately, I had recovered by Saturday when we went to Spain for a few days. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist the Spanish wine and we also ate almost half the contents of the Mediterranean Sea. So I am back on it from the food and booze standpoints.
Take care!
